@SnakeWorksStudio the one and only. Palance was a classic Western and action Star turned B movie royalty in his later years. He was both Shane and the crime boss in Batman 89!
1) the two guys in power armour are "human renegades." Note the graffiti on the wall behind them saying "Smash the Empire". 2) The bear is a "Cthellean Cudbear", which is described as "A vicious carnivore originating from the Cthelle Death World... a large, purple, excessively furry bear with gaping tooth-filled mouth and long rending talons. Cudbears are highly territorial and ruthless killers, and think nothing of attacking large numbers of well armed troops". Its given stats, including movement 6, WS 6, S7, T7, and leadership 10. (Basic space marines were only movement 4, WS 4, S4 , T _3_ and leadsership 8). A suggested scenario is to have one find its way onto a ship and fall asleep, wake up in transit, eat the Navigator, and then go on a rampage. 3) the guys in walkers with captives are slavers, from Helsreach (which in Rogue Trader was a settlement on a world in the Eue of Terror). The sign on the walker looks like it might say something like "mutant pig slaying co."
One of my favourites is in Blood Bowl second edition rulebook (the foam pitch one) with an awesome image of "The Crush". The Crush is the blood bowl version of the NFL draft:)
On the walker leg issue. Yes they do look very much like not only Robotech/Macross Destroid legs, (Phalanx, Tomahawk, and Defender Mk1 and 04-Mk.XV Super Defender to be specific) All of these models were also used in early Battletech. I will spare you the three hour rant about Harmony Gold.
@@SnakeWorksStudio Back in the 80s Harmony Gold presented the Macross series in America as Robotech, clashed with Big West Animation who made the original Macross movie and TV series in a legal struggle that lasted 30 odd years and also sued FASA Corporation, the makers of Battletech for copyright infringement with the use of certain mecha designs even though FASA had acquired the copyrights to certain mecha and vehicles from various anime from a 3rd party licenser and stopped using them in the BT game when the license expired. Harmony Gold is run by petty dickheads.
I went down a rabbit hole today looking up old White Dwarf issues so I can get inspiration for my 'new' The Old World buildings I bought 'Sigmarite Chapel', 'The Empire Tower' and 'Fortress Manor' and the old White Dwarfs were incredible for building suggestions about this very modular terrain, they had articles on using it to make Wizard's Tower, an Empire Tavern / Inn, an Orc Tower (I kid you not) and a appended tower onto an official Warhammer Fortress. Amazing stuff in those old White Dwarfs both art and build suggestions. WD 330, WD 336 and WD 360. I'm going to be digging into old white dwarfs for inspiration on how to paint my The Old World Warriors of Chaos, Orcs & Goblins and soon to be bought High Elf and The Empire armies (and possibly a Vampire Counts one). It's like an entire new universe has opened up to me from the past.
the legs on the right hand walker are based on the those from mecha from the macross series, they're legs off a Tomahawk, Phalanx, or Defender Destroid. (those all shared the same leg design with only minor differences) When battletech started, art from macross got used to create the Warhammer, Longbow, and Rifleman mechs for it. (thankfully that art has long been removed from use, and replaced with original art that better fits the game's stats) when macross was redubbed and released as part of the Robotech TV show in the USA, those three macross designs were renamed Excalibur, Spartan, and Raider-X for the tie in toylines. i don't recognize the legs on the robot on the left. the mismatched look suggests to me that the intent of the artist was that the walking gun platforms were something the slavers kitbashed together out of the remain s of some other robot vehicles.
@@SnakeWorksStudio I don't know if the Daddy Long Legs holds that title but there is a spider here in Florida that does hold that distinction. The problem is the venom injector isn't long enough to get through human skin. So they have lots of power and no delivery.
Polar Bears are the fiercest killers in the animal kingdom, according to Hollywood producer John Waters, as relayed by stories told by Director/Screenwriter Kevin Smith.
That thing the slavers are driving looks like the bottom half of an Urban mech. All it needs is the domed head. They're slow and, under powered, and relatively lightly armed. They're only really powerful as a garrison for a city.
Yes, polar bears are very aggressive hunters. They will hunt and kill humans as well. Next most likely to hunt you and eat you are black bears. Alive by the way all predators in nature eat you while you're still kicking and screaming.. Grizzly bears are aggressive because they can't climb trees to get away, so they operate on the notion of the best defense being a good offense. Plus its a free meal that can't out run them.
I love these, I really do! Every single piece showcased so far in this series is phenomenal and teeming with personality. Modern 40k art really sucks by comparison. It all looks the same, it's bland and sterile, it has no personality or charm.
It may be Arnie but the guy in red is definitely Jack Palance
Good shout! Ive only ever seen him in City Slickers.
I just recently painted a pair of minis for these blokes!
The mercenary guys?
The commando is looking at his watch because he's waiting for the explosion he set to go off
Aha good call! Are you an ork fan?
The sign on the walker says mutie the pig, slaving company.. which is a reference/shout out to an old judge dredd story

I heard it was the hippopotamus. The daddy long legs has the worlds most poisonous venom but has no teeth
