    Paul you are not like Gary, lol. Funny how these start off all serious and towards the end everyone is laughing, in future lets have a bit more laughter earlier on, life is too short to be too serious on these things. Your challenge for the next podcast is to have all taken selfies and present them and we can vote on the most amusing and or meaningful ! cheers guys.

    Thanks for allowing me to listen in on your conversation. I appreciate your willingness to praise the work of others, passing on comments they have made. I watched all of you before you joined forces and hope this goes on for a long time. Oddly, I'm from America but most of the photographers I follow are from England and Scotland!

    Another great chat lads, i think the success of your programs is because your all so normal and we all relate to your varied conversations, its like sitting in your front room with a few mates that all talk about something you love doing without the fact that you are all proffessional photographers and dont make a point of it, great stuff 👍

    Waking up, making a big nice cup of coffee, sitting down in front of the computer to edit my photos from my trip yesterday and what better can there be than having a podcast from you lads?
    Awesome. Love your style guys - casual, relaxed and just fun. You could do a 4 hour podcast - it's relaxing and often times I can learn something from it.
    No idea where the angry comments might come from but you don't deserve it. If people don't like the style of your podcast and want something more "professional", they can make their own ;-)

    Mystic Paul should have know the ratings... that made me laugh so much, and the look on Gary's face, priceless. This is why I like watching the podcast on youtube, have listened while driving but missed the visuals, ie the crying with laughter at Mrs Paul Gough :-0
    You talked about gear, most of us invest in a brand, it then becomes very expensive to change, however if for some reason all your insured gear was lost (ie flood/theft) what would you chose now? As an APS-C user it was good to hear Adam say about equivalent focal lenghts etc. Might be a generation thing but a real joy listening in on your chats/rants. Ran out of time to do any slagging off, ps keep the name, you have a format that works and no need to change it. Till next time.

  • @oldgrumpyjim5003

    Nice one guys as always. When it comes to gear I almost upgraded by Nikon d800e to the d850 and then did a bit of further enquiries into the difference in dynamic range. I discovered that the usable DR between the three models 800e, 810, and d850 is still about just over 9. So I thought I don't need the flippy screen and the other stuff the latest 850 has and I also have a Fuji X-T2 which has the evf and flippy screen so why spend more. As far as negative comments Adam your the same as me x job so after 30 you get used to them!! Nice relaxed chat

    For woodlands the 24-70 actually works quite well, but I tend to use the 70-200 even more. I hardly use the 15-35 doing woodlands. But I like to take photos of what I see with my eyes, and for that 16 to about 24 is a bit too wide. Funny Gary actually does explain it very well.
    @Paul, we've discussed this before ;-) The problem with tripods is that the "cheap" ones are low, ie. less than 150cm (w/o center column), which leaves the more expensive ones. One can then choose to pay 150€ more than the cheap one and get a Gitzo (I did), and I 'm 90% happy with it. But as I didn't get a Gitzo ball-head I am actually not seeing the same issue as you.

    Funny episode today. Crystal Ball Paul. LOL I agree with all you said about lenses etc. When you're using a kit lens and all the experienced photographers are using better lenses, you get told your lens is crap etc etc. But sometimes, you get that great shot. Something all those people with the expensive lenses don't, you feel vindicated. I did eventually go and buy the good lens, but used ones. I'm quite happy. And I was quite happy with my kits too. I tell people all the time though, learn your camera, with your kit lenses. Don't go out and buy the best of everything and not know how to use them.

    On the Dinosaur gear thing, as a newbie to photography with a LUMIX G9 it can feel a bit cheaty especially if out with a mate who uses an old 35mm film camera.
    I use Manual mode but with auto ISO and see it like shooting film with the camera changing the film strength to suite. Then tweaking the settings to keep the ISO down is great for learning good exposure settings.
    Cheers guys!

    Re Gear... Upgrade your skills before upgrading your skills. Understand the strengths and equally important the limitations of the gear you have, if the limitations then prevent you achieving what you want then consider gear upgrades.

    Another enjoyable listen in the car. Odd co-incidence, on return home I had a mail from Park cameras with a vlog about a £500 challenge - what set up could you buy from their 2nd hand list for under £500 and how would it perform. It made the point very well that just because a camera has been 'replaced' by a higher spec model, doesn't suddenly make it a crap camera. No2 son was recently contemplating a D850. After a good talking to he went for a 2nd hand D810 and is loving it, with some significant change in his pocket. How about you guys doing a 3-way vlog with 'sub-optimal' gear?
    My thing I wish I knew......that professional landscape photographers don't bag good shots on every outing - you may have to wait a very long time to get the right location in the right light.

    Loving the content. As a keen landscape photographer myself, i would like to send a question to you for perhaps discussion in an episode. The effect on our landscapes by people like us, and more importantly people who shoot purely for instagram likes, of themselves in the landscape. Have you come across selfish behaviour in this respect? The internet is full of 'places ruined by instagram' and so i wonder how much this is true.

  • @andymiles5156

    Another enjoyable episode. I’ll often listen to the show on Google Podcast whilst driving home, an advantage of the audio format, then switching to watch the last part on RUclips once home, so both formats work for me. You can ignore part watches from me I’m just switching devices 😉.
    On that note I can struggle in the car as sometimes you guys speak softly and I have to turn the volume up to hear over the road noise, then it can suddenly get deafeningly loud and I scramble for the volume control. This doesn’t happen with the radio so I guess they are using some sort of volume equalising. I wondered if there is something in your toolkit to do something similar? Appreciate you do this for free and it may not be practical.

    • @PhotoNerds
      @PhotoNerds  5 лет назад

      Totally agree. We're visual artists trying to do sound. We're total amateurs when it comes to audio. The first pennies we make will go to employ a sound guy or gal.

    • @andymiles5156
      @andymiles5156 5 лет назад

      Nah you guys aren’t amateurs, it’s just my particular use case, all is fine on RUclips. Unfortunately my Mrs is less tolerant of the sudden increases in volume so to keep the peace I wait until I’m by myself in the car 😉

    • @GaryGough
      @GaryGough 5 лет назад

      Andy Miles - this is interesting Andy. I edited the video and I balanced the audio. I made a mistake by not converting the sound to mono though so I think that’s the issue here. Either that or it’s just Paul’s feminine vocal tones 😂😂 I’ll try and fix it for the next episode

    • @andymiles5156
      @andymiles5156 5 лет назад

      Gary I watched this episode just on RUclips as it was a Saturday so it might have not been an issue with this one. It’s occurred on some of the previous episodes, but it is very much specific to listening in the car. It’s when I have to turn up the volume to hear the quieter parts due to the noise of the car on the dual carriageway. It commonly happens when one of you goes very quiet and then says something funny which naturally makes everyone laugh loudly (Not a criticism I’m quietly spoken myself).
      You can’t be expected to cope with every scenario, so I suspect the best solution is for me to see if there is a phone app that could help equalise levels. BTW I love Paul’s accent, reminds me of being young again and watching Chorlton and the Wheelies. 👍😂

    I'm not one who believes in astrology but the time of year you are born has to have an effect on your growth in some way. Summer babies are outside more, longer days and warmer conditions and winter babies are inside more, colder conditions and darker days. I'm not saying it will make you a particular personality per say but scientifically it has to have some developmental effect surely

    17:38 Yes, I understand Gary, yet at the same time, all of the vloggers are constantly asking for approval if you do like it (give me a like and subscribe, hit that notification bell!!!), so that's a little double, in my opinion.
    I agree about the "if you don't like it, don't watch", but imo it's a bit double standards to ask for likes if you do like it.
    No one would ever ask for a thumbs down if you don't like it.

    Thinking back to an earlier comment Garry made in the last vlog. I was down on the foreshore (just got back) looking over to Arran trying to get a nice shot before it pissed with rain and I got eaten alive by midges. When I heard this noise of someone coming towards me and I turned round and found this guy dressed in fancy photographers waistcoat with lenses sticking out the pocket in every direction. He had two camera bags and was puffing and pecking sweat dripping off him while also trying to carry two tripods. I kid you not his opening comment was "Hi I'm a professional photographer" what are you doing? I thought F£$@* sake I'm standing here wi camera on tripod wi the sharp end pointing to Arran. I think he saw the expression my face (not good at hiding feelings) and waked away. I just hope I didn't say out loud what was in my head.

    Pauly G, you gonna eat that peach( or diminutive apple), or what? And, yet again, we are treated to views of your manly legs, which are quite like mine own -sculpted and hirsute - yet I believe I will win in any paleness competition. Mine match a Pantone color chip called "Fish-Belly White." A sexy vision, indeed!
    As always, I enjoy the casual and easy banter from a few of my fav 'tubers.You help me pause and consider my shooting efforts. I really appreciate that influence.
