Hi Tweedy. I am not surprised that the fox came to explore. I swear I could smell both the meal and wine as I watched your entertaining video. Being a vegetarian myself I don’t mind some fake meat, as long as it resembles mince. I once bought some fake pulled pork and hated it as it was too meat like. Keep up the great work. 👏👏👍😀🍷🍳
Thank you! I guess this is one of the benefits of a very amateur wine channel - I don't feel any pressure to make the videos look professional and I'm happy to just have fun with it and stray off topic from time to time!
This is a good idea - doing some cooking on Burgundy with Tweedy. I can struggle with fake steaks where they make them look too much like real steaks! Sometimes they even do fake blood, don’t they? Am I unusual in this - I expect so, I usually am! This food looked good!
@@WC21UKProductionsLtd I agree with you. As a vegetarian I don’t like it when the fake meat is made to look and feel too much like real meat. Fake blood is a definite no, no! 🤢🥴
I think the UK has always had a relatively high percentage of vegetarians, although of course dwarfed by India! It's not a new thing either, I was surprised to find a mention of a vegetarian restaurant in one of the Sherlock Holmes stories, which I think would probably have been set (and possibly written?) in the 1890s. One of our longest running vegetarian food brands here (Quorn) was originally motivated more by a fear of food shortages - a hangover from the post WW2 era of rationing - and an observation that producing meat in particular was very effort intensive. In the 1990s / early 2000s there wasn't really a huge range available - two main brands (Quorn and Linda McCartney) pretty much dominated that relatively niche market... but some time in the 2010s things really exploded. I think it coincided with a new wave of veganism, and international brands like Beyond Meat or Impossible. So suddenly there were a lot of new companies here trying their hand at meat substitutes. I actually feel like we might be slightly past the peak now, for a while the supermarkets here were devoting ever more shelf space to these products, but in the last year or two I feel it has started shrinking again. Perhaps in part because the latest health related news cycle seems to be all about "ultra processed foods", and of course a lot of these fake meats apparently fall under that label. I think there has to be some perspective there. There is a lot more to food than simply meeting the nutritional requirements - there's a cultural and emotional side to it. It has to make you happy, rather than being a boring chore just to tick all the boxes!
That was smashing, Tweedy. I had to smile when you said that your mind may be “getting confused by the fake steak and peppercorns “ Your subtle humour is always heartening 😀 The juicy marbles looks great and I’ll definitely be adding it to my food list as I’ve been veggie since 1985. Little fox was a great sight. Foxes used to appear in the dusk on picnics in days gone by at castle ruins, somewhere in England. They were always grateful for any scraps from the day. Cheers and thanks!
Thank you! I enjoyed the "Juicy Marbles" fake steak, but it's not something I'd have very often - at least partly because it's crazily expensive (£9 for those two little steaks!). I suppose it's a niche thing, they're probably not making them in huge quantities, and are trying to recoup their R&D costs etc... Part of what I liked about it is just going through the ritual of cooking a "steak" - even if it is all a bit pretend. I turned vegetarian as an adult, so I grew up with some of those traditions of cooking/eating meat. I don't really miss the flavours but I do like some of the cultural "rituals" around food, often meat based traditionally... Especially things like Sunday roasts. If I go to a pub on a Sunday lunchtime and the only vegetarian option is something like a mushroom risotto I feel absolutely heartbroken!
The reference to 'a bit of brown' colouring when you first opened it rang alarm bells re oxidation but pleased it improved after letting it breathe for a while - phew ! Disappointing re the label, I'm glad you didn't buy it to add to a collection in your cellar ! Thank you for another very enjoyable video as always
Hey, man, don't apologize for the fake meat. I assume you're vegetarian, so eat what you like, there is no need to apologize for bringing a little more compassion into your life. Given other events of the moment in the UK a little compassion wouldn't go amiss. Juicy Marbles are pretty good, though very expensive. I tend to go for a lions mane mushroom or a clump of oyster mushrooms compressed in the pan for a steak replacement. Keep at it, man. Good stuff on all your channels. (I enjoyed your crisps vid even if it didn't get the traction you were looking for).
Thanks! Yes I'm a vegetarian, have been for most of my adult life. I don't feel any need to apologise for that, but even some vegetarians / vegans seem to have an issue with fake meat! I'm really quite bored of dealing with people saying "I don't see the point in fake meat!" ...so I theorise if I make fun of it people won't bother. I've only had lion's mane once, but it did have a very interesting fibrous "meaty" texture to it - maybe that's what I was thinking of when I mentioned mushrooms in the video!
Hi John, that was a vegetarian fox, if ever I've seen one, he could smell that marble a mild off!! I could tell you were going to deglaze with this one but it got better as it went along or maybe all those peppercorns took the taste away. Is the outro taken by simply turning the camera the other way? I think you made a wise decision on the height of the bar, this was definitely a burgundy plus video, well done!! PS: Once, many years ago now, we were surprised by a fox whilst hunting for blackberries, he wanted his fair share and in the end took some from the hand. Unfortunately the wild animals have become accustomed to man and even the deer will come up to the bar, at the right time, to be fed. This in the Cazorla National Park
Foxes will eat anything, including quite a lot of dog poo apparently. Yes this wine definitely did improve as it went on! I moved to a different location for the outro, as where I was sitting for the bulk of the video didn't have any open views of the sky. I get the sense foxes are very good at risk assessment! They're certainly not completely docile: although they will often come close to me when I'm sitting out around dusk in this area, if they hear a sudden noise they'll run off. As I've probably said before, my friend characterises them as "cat software running on dog hardware".
@@BurgundyWithTweedy Yes, that is a good characterisation. They're a common sight in suburban England. We often see them in my mum's garden. Unfortunately her neighbour leaves dog food for them which attracts rats too. It did lead to a pythonesque situation earlier this year. We were all sat outside discussing my father's funeral arrangements when something moved in the bushes and a rat appeared and Bertie my sisters terrier made his first ever catch. It certainly broke the atmosphere!!

Stumbled across your channel and just want to say, your videos are cracking! Thank you for sharing these moments with us, top quality content!
Thank you - much appreciated!
The fox in the end just did it for me! Amazing. I must say I really enjoy your way of presentation.

Love to see a fellow vegetarian and wine enthusiast!
As a vegetarian I am quite jealous of the variety of fake steak you seem to have in the UK. Choices are much more limited here in Canada. Great video!

I'm not a vegetarian and I don't like wine, but I'd give that fake steak a go with a nice cold cola
As always a great video
Thanks Deborah - and kind of you to watch the video despite the unappealing subject matter!
Yes, those potatoes did look a peeling...
Nice!
Tweedy, where is the wood you are enjoying?😊
Part of the joy of making these videos is hiding from humanity for a while... so I'd rather not say exactly!
