The cheapest Gevrey Chambertin I've ever seen! Coillot Gevrey Chambertin 2017
Просмотров 1,5 тыс.14 дней назад
I spend a lot of time hunting for (comparatively) decent priced Burgundy, and this is the cheapest Gevrey Chambertin I've found to date. Yes obviously if you were buying Gevrey Chambertin 10, 20 or 50 years ago it was all drastically cheaper... but then so was everything else. If only the Frogs would get into Stelvin closures. So much less spoiled wine.
The thumbnail made me think for a moment that Tommy Robinson had abandoned far-right politics to become a sommelier.
I live in France and biggest problem we have here is finding a decent bottle at a reasonable price to drink. Quite often after finding something nice it disappears from the shelves never to be seen again. Whenever choosing a new wine it turns out to be a total gamble if it is worth it or not. Price is not an indicator of quality here in France. Maybe it could be at over 20 euros or more but honestly it's a risk even then. For me the only region which consistently satisfies and is overlooked and sniffed at by most is Cote du Rhone.
What a great place for a tasting. I've always felt that your forest locations influenced your sensation. Maybe at low tide you would comment differently? Look forward to seeing the cooking!!
It was very good.
My husband and I shared a bottle of 2019 Albert Brenot Gevrey-Chambertin last night. The only bottle I could find in the city of Calgary.
Decided to open one of my fabulous 2015 Savigny-les-Beaune Premier Crus this evening, inspired by Tweedy.
For me, whether it’s wine or beer, it’s all in the “mouth feel”. Some super superlatives in this review for which I thank you. 👏👏👍😀🍷
Personal taste & preferences of course but I'll always go for a Chambolle over a Gevrey on a wine list and you describe the former very well. Cheers !
I’d agree. Chambolle always has more aromatics than Gevrey Chambertin
Always good to see the maps!! It was pitch black at the end. When you mentioned scraping the bottom of the oak barrel it did make me wonder whether they reuse the barrels or where they source the wood from All the best!!
Sounds like one to try.
Maison Harbour is a husband (American) & wife (Canadian) operation and they are negociants based in Savigny-les-Beaune La Justice comprises of a few plots to the North East of Gevrey 2016 was a difficult year - your bottle is from a production of only 4 barrels p.s loved the video as always, Season's Greetings to you !
That squirrel knew what's what, another no show from the fox, no stray dogs too. The writing was on the wall, er tree, for this one!! Would it be better with more time? I wonder how they can guarantee a cork for 30 years .... Thanks for doing the addendum in the rain as well. All the best!!
Back in the day, when Burgundy was an extravagance but not unaffordable, Chambolle Musigny was a strong favourite of mine. I found they had a feminine feel, so very suited to the blokes in those times who ate quiche.
La Justice is a good climat. With wax, just go straight though mate.
That may be tough with the Ah So he’s using
Undefined red berry? I opened my cookery book looking for Christmas recipes and it opened up on page 682, Loganberry Jam, just saying!! More realistically priced bottle with a good result. Cellar looked well stocked!! All the best!!
Their wines are excellent. And you should try more Chambolle and the other AOC you should feature is Morey Saint Denis.
Very talented winemaker and viticulturist
That thumbnail gets 100 pts from me.
Hi Tweedy. You deserved the wine to be good. So pleased it didn’t disappoint. 👏👏👍😀🍷
I had a 6 pack of one of their Chambertin Crus about 10 years ago and it was bloody awful. I tried two and sold the rest. Glad you had luck with that bottle.
Sounds great, but were your taste buds influenced by the mead? Whilst you didn't mention it I can confirm that I had absolutely no idea to the colour of this one was!! Further evidence of the powers of the new GoPro, maybe its waning though as it only managed to transform your tweed trousers!! All the best!!
Nice, what is the price for that Bottle?
£57 from Four Walls Wine.
Does any of the bottle make it back home?
Sometimes yes, this time no.
Maybe he needs a pinot glass
She’s an Aussie living and working in Burgundy.
2017 can’t be found on retailers shelves here in Australia. 2020, 2021 and 2022.
Sometimes my Ah-So opener doesn't want to get between the bottle neck and composite corks. Thankful for my Waiter's Friend corkscrew when that happens.
Sounds like it’s on the way down. I’ve had 2015 Village wines that are still going well. Do you ever try Cote Challonaise wines particularly Givry? Excellent value.
Phew normal service resumed you've mastered the new camera such that it doesn't ruin your suits!! I did chuckle as you mentioned "cotes de beaune" that Dalmatian's ears instantly pricked up only to be disappointed by the lack of "os" Whilst the cork did look good I wonder if it wasn't as tight as it might have been? Interesting discussion on the waxing and waning of a wine. I have invested in some proper stemware for this Christmas, a pack of two glasses and two bottles of el coto, the hunting ground!! All the best
I get the impression that not many wines are made for long term storage these days? Five years seems to be the norm. I know my Father in Law had (in storage a BBR) wines going back to the 30's. This was in the 90's and they were very enjoyable! what do you think? has the industry gone more for 'drink now' styles?
Good morning ,Tweedy. The first thing I noticed was where's the tree? I learnt a few things about corks and stoppers there, too. I concur about ordering - I will often round up the amount of any said items and get free delivery, too. I don't think your assessment of that bottle was a great surprise to you in the end. Enjoy your day 😃
You grabbed yourself a bargain there Mr Tweedy, well played Sir !
With me, its being a bargain would add considerably to my enjoyment!
OUFF! Adore Gevrey from Rossignol-Trapet. He's a master of Gevrey
I prefer my red burgundy on the younger side of their drinking window
I'm glad it's not just me!
You are not alone John.
Lignier’s wines especially the 1er Crus can be superb. A fruity Bourgogne rouge? Perfect for lunch. And a farmer friend here in Australia had a pet fox that always turned up for a meal in the evenings
Speaking of bargains, I got hold of a couple of 2015 Vosne-Romanée En Barreaux, Misset-Cheron for £50 a few months ago. Tried one of them last month, was enthralled by it, realised that it is an upward neighbour of Cros-Parantoux, then bought 3 more of the 4 Yapp Bros had left. I'm not very knowledgeable of Vosne-Romanee for (obvious) economic reasons so I reckon that was a hell of a bargain. IDK why they were that cheap considering the second cheapest En Barreaux on the market is 80 quid (same winery), perhaps because the winery was renamed to Domaine du Couvent?
Yes that does sound like a good price - I seldom see Vosne Romanée under £70, and it can of course go stratospherically higher. Plus it's a much smaller village than Gevrey Chambertin - about half the size in terms of hectares under vine...? So I'm sure that pushes prices up too, with or without DRC.
Hello! Usually confine comments to the famous Tweedy outdoors channel, highly recommend that to you if you haven’t seen it, but watching you describe another bottle of your beloved Gevrey-Chambertin made me decide to see where in France it was, find it’s not a million miles from Alise-Sainte-Reine the ancient Alesia where Vercingetorix made his final stand, we go there next spring to see the hillfort and will extend our tour to have a look at your favourite red wine location.. My knowledge of viticulture stops with Tesco Cote du Rhône but am impressed by your vocabulary and descriptive ability. Cheers.
Yet Another excellent review Tweedy and it looks like you sniffed out a bargain, at least by Gevrey Chambertin standards. I generally find your videos to be succinct, but yet you still manage to cover the important details. You can't please all the people all the time, but with all your Christmas references in this video, I was almost expecting to see Santa and his sleigh trundling past in the background.
Thanks Ken!
Chambolle Musigny for me, but a close call. To each his own. 🍷
I think my New Year's resolution will be to try some more wines from Chambolle Musigny - and Morey St. Denis - in 2025!
Your videos are never too long. Every one is an interesting and enjoyable treasure. Thank you Mr Tweedy.
Thank you!
Great video, I need to try some Gevrey Chambertin.
Have you perchance tried Remi-Seguin’s Gevrey from 2017 ?
No I don't think I have - is it good?
@ Had a one a couple of years ago and remember it being good. Still have two more 2017’s.
I stopped listening to your review and got fixated on your brass water tap. I think that is the most valuable characteristic of the GoPro showing us the owner’s surroundings even at night.
I have a bizarre affection for that tap! Even had a party in the back garden to inaugurate it when it was first installed. Prior to that there had been some confounded fitting which required the use of a spanner every time I wanted to water the garden.
Great videos as always and thanks for recommending that website!
Thank you! The stock seems to change rapidly at Lay and Wheeler, so for someone like me who likes to constantly try new things it's great.
Just a quick delurk to say how much I like your wine videos as well as your walking videos. Please do other villages too so I can develop my knowledge. I don’t reallyunderstand but peering inwards from beyond my glass wall of ignorance I get some sense of something civilised and nuanced
Thank you! I tend to be a bit set in my ways and mostly just flit between three villages (Gevrey Chambertin, Vosne Romanée and Nuits St Georges) in Burgundy plus a few other appellations which cover broader areas... but there are a few villages which lie between those three I really ought to explore a bit more - the likes of Chambolle Musigny and Morey St. Denis.
Ordered a case. Thanks
Crikey - I really hope this isn't a disappointment!
@@BurgundyWithTweedy I will let you know lol. It will be here for xmas
Woke up to a case(12 bottles) on the doorstep lol.
@@salan3 Blimey I had assumed you just meant 6 bottles! I really hope I haven't led you up the garden path here!
@BurgundyWithTweedy My step sons and partners will be here. There won't be much left after next week lol
Here in Finland Gevrey Chambertin also starts from 65-70 euros so I would definitely love a bottle for that price. Especially from 2017 which wasn't too hot. The Domaine Faiveley Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes from 2017 was amazing for a village wine.
Yes I think that's the key for 2017 - no major disasters (I don't think much in the way of frosts or excessive rain to speak of) but not too not either. Just right in my opinion!
That name could go horrible wrong in the hands of the English!! I think the old camera gave more of the background but that said the picture quality was excellent. Unfortunately it trashed your Tweed suit, I'd send it back if I were you!! All the best!!
In a bit of footage I decided to cut during editing I explained it wasn't actually a tweed suit!!! Shocking isn't it? I had been to a fancy lunch in the daytime which had a dress code stipulating "business suits" so I had donned this, which is still wool but not tweed.
