I usually have a writing retreat annually, but due to restrictions in my country because of covid 19, it kinda limiting my options. For this year, I created a "beach theme" retreat at home. I put on a straw hat, a nice cool tropical beverages with some tropical fruits on the side and I put on my earphones with ocean sounds on youtube. Instant writing retreat at the beach. LOL!
I just realized I have a writing retreat almost every Sunday afternoon. In that time I just can not write, I have free time and writing is the best thing to relax.
I loved this episode! As a teenager it can be hard to find time to get truly into the writing zone between school and chores (although at school I do tend to spend my study lessons and breaks in the library writing my book) but in the school holidays (which are only a week away right now) I really spend the time to get in the zone and do lots of writing, since my parents are super busy so I am at home alone with no interruptions. I'm big on making my writing space feel cosy and inviting, and a lot of the time I even dress specially to get into a specific mood for my writing. I LOVE YOUR PODCAST it's really helped me realise my dreams and put in the first steps to achieving them! Thank you so much Kate and Abbie! 😄💖
I watched this because I want to do my own solo writing retreat next weekend. Thank you both so much for your enthusiasm and for making it seem achievable. One thing I’m planning is to start with a trip to a coffee shop early on the Saturday morning to sit and do a handwriiten creative piece before heading home to work on the computer.
Never underestimate the car. Getting in the car, shutting the doors (assuming the weather is reasonable for that) and having a distraction free zone to write is priceless. Even better if you can drive to a beach or somewhere with a nice scene to look at while taking breaks between writing sprints.
I love this. A part two with more tips would be appreciated! I've started using the screentime function on my macbook too after seeing Abbie's video with it. It works so well! Also, for me, I love decorating my writing desk with only things that have a connection to my story. It really gets me in the mood and helps with staying on task/not getting distracted. This even goes as far as the mug I'm using. It needs to fit in with the vibe! :)
Tbh I kind of struggle with the interruption part even with my school stuff rn. I love my friends and roommate but they’re always asking me to do something when I just sit down and I’m afraid to tell them I’m busy
It's hard to find a good place to write. I used to enjoy writing at the library, or at Burger King, or at Wendy's. But the local library has been closed permanently, and because of the Covid BS fast food places in my area only have their drive-throughs open.

It's really fun to see their similarities and differences in style and writing.

Amazing!
19:00 I needed to hear that. Thanks ❤️
Great episode! Now I just really want to take a writing retreat 😆
Great episode ladies! What is the app that Abbie mentioned that blocks sites/apps when you want to "force-focus"?

thinking of Nanowrimo.
I struggle to write in a cave. I work best in a well-lit living room with natural light or late at night when the house is all quiet.
💜
I need to enter the giveaway still! I want to take some time on my answer, that’s why I haven’t answered yet.. but I will very soon! 🙂
#QuestionI eliminate distractions, by writing at night, when my mind is active and I am most creative as the rest of the people in my house are asleep
