    Starting this build... Noticed that on this page for the NeoPixels, learn.adafruit.com/ble-darksaber-propmaker/neopixel-strip-assembly, you have a statement wrong about the length. It says "The strips should contain 34 NeoPixel LEDs each. This makes each strip measure to 1.13 meters (44.5in) in length." But it should read "The strips should contain 34 NeoPixel LEDs each. This makes each strip measure to 56.7mm (22.3in) in length, so you need 1.13 meters (44.5in) in total." I almost ordered 3m because of this error. ALSO! It is SO close to 1m, that if you change the blade length to 60cm instead of 67cm (easy to do thanks to the parametric features!), then you can get away with just using 1 meter of NeoPixels instead of having to buy 2! That's 30 pixels, which is 50cm, half a meter per strip. This cuts the cost by $25!

    how does this not have more likes and views???? Its free, looks amazing, all the parts needed are cheap, and its easy to do. The editing of the video is amazing, all the links are provided, and you don't dilly dally around. Thank you so much for putting this amazing content into the world. This is the best printed darksaber Ive seen. It seems too good to be true.

     @Adafruit Industries Got a problem related to the neopixel strips. Turning on with the neopixels attached, they don't light up and the audio is muted & distorted. If I leave it on, it burns up the propmaker. I've destroyed 2 propmakers so far. turning on without the neopixels and the sound is loud and clear. I've checked the wiring of the cables and I have continuity from each jst pin to the correct connections on both strips, and I have no bridging solder.
    I'm on my 3rd set of neopixels (replaced just in case I somehow damaged the earlier ones - fresh off the reel and still in the silicone casing, so they should be good. I've also replaced the feather, just in case blowing the propmakers somehow damaged that. Still the same. Neopixels don't light up and the sound is distorted. If I were to leave it on, I'm certain that I'd blow the propmaker again and let the smoke out.
    I cannot get this build to work following the instructions.
    What am I doing wrong?

      Just remembered to update this. My problem was because of the 3 pin JST connector and cable I used. Adafruit didn't have any of these in stock www.adafruit.com/product/3894, so I used one from somewhere else and didn't check the colour coding. The one that I got had the live and neutral colours reversed, which was causing the fry. Once I'd reversed my wiring to compensate, it worked fine

    This is such an excellent build. Well done guys.
    I'm printing some of the parts now, but unfortunately the .STLs for the blade and hilt for the 'small printers' don't include insets/screw/nut holes for fixing them together.
    So the only way to do this for this size printer is with glue, which isn't workable.
    The 'large printer' STLs are fine, and include these.
    If it's not going to be available then the only option would be to sweat it out remodelling using the cad files (which thankfully were supplied).

      Thanks! We'll have to add the screw holes to the smaller blade parts then. We'll share the update on 3D Hangouts next week! Thank you for your patience =]

    hello, very good job, I would like to make this sword, what type of pla do you use for the blade?, and if I print the blade in 4 parts, does it stick well? Regards.

    I made a darksaber back in 2020 3d print but it was design of the clone wars so it look more blocky if I made it Again I make it like this it looks so good dam cool one thing I recommend is to use acrylic for the blead it look 10 times batter

    The center of the blade was printed in pla? In what color? White, transparent? Cause the light shines shines so well on this!

    will it work with any led lights or just these specific neopixels

  • @HicSvntDracones

    You can find my finished one on my YT channel in my community posts. One trick is to Epoxy the blade after the lights are in, then airbush it black, dont use the black printed covers, and re-epoxy it.

    Can you swap out the mini oval speaker (8 Ohm 1 Watt) for a stronger Bass Speaker (3Watt 4 Ohm) ?

  • @bedkeepstrying
    @bedkeepstrying 3 года назад

    Did you guys by chance include a blade file with clearance for regular size neopixels instead of your $100 skinny mini ones?

    • @LorenCox
      @LorenCox 3 года назад +2

      They didn't. In Fusion 360 I tried changing the blade thickness from 8mm (which fits the skinny mini 7.5mm wide ones) to 10.5 to accommodate the standard 10mm strips and it breaks all kinds of dependencies. Certainly fixable if you want to spend the time going back through and fixing the model, which doesn't look like it would be a lot, but depending what your time is worth, it's likely cheaper to just buy the skinnier ones. NOTE: You really only need 1m of them ($25... the $100 it shows is for a full 4m reel) if you shorten the blade by 7mm from 67cm to 60cm, you only use 30 LEDs on a 60 LED per meter strip, therefore half a meter.

    Can it be printed on the Ender 3 v2?

  • @isaiahbradley250
    @isaiahbradley250 3 года назад

    I went onto the Adafruit website to download the .STL files to print on my Ender 3, but there is no way for them to fit together! I looked at the parts for a larger printer and they already have a way to fit together. Why? Can the parts for smaller printers fit together with no screws???

    • @adafruit

      The smaller hilt parts are supposed to be glued together. For tech support, goto the forums and post your questions.
