- A man gives an account of a tornado destroying his house.
A split-second decision may have saved a father and his young son’s lives as a tornado destroyed their house in Arabi, La. Tuesday night.
Jason Dickerson said he was in the den when he first heard the tornado.
“The wind and rain was blowing on the side of the house and it quit…I opened the side door and it quit and just went quiet," he said. "I knew that wasn’t a good sign.”
Thank you to the newscaster for letting this man speak. So often interviewers just want to hear themselves talk at the expense of the story.
This was an excellent interview. Considerate, compassionate interviewer who asked intelligent questions. Articulate, well-spoken interviewee who has his priorities in order.
This man is an absolute HERO. His son is blessed to have such a brave father.
"Something told me 'NO'"....
Powerful video. He's very articulate and being from West Tennessee, yes, he's seen a few tornadoes in his life.
This was a lot. He held it together and Thank God he is okay.
Very good interview. This young lady should go places. So sorry for the loss of his home but to have survived and protected your child is more than one could ask for.
Although he never verbally said the words, during that silent moment, I heard a father screaming “God I Love my son! Please save my son!” I had no idea what true love was until my daughter was born. Sorry for your loss of a home but great job being a Dad!
I'm crying listening to this brave man's story. God bless them and all that have been affected by the many storms and flooding the last few days and still happening. Prayers from TN.
He is such a loving father. His son is so lucky. Also what the mother was going through listening to all this on the phone and not being able to do anything
Good on that reporter for holding it together because I sure didn't when he talked about his son.
Jason Dickerson you brought tears to your fellow Brownsvillians eyes! I was very surprised and so taken back to see YOU standing tall while surrounded by total devistation. So so glad that you and your son are ok. Wow just WOW....
First time such a clear headed articulate witness
Mr. Dickinson,
He did what a father should do and that was to protect his child! Bless him, the reporter and him started to weltup And cry I almost lost it too Amazing story.
"the den, what used to be the den". My heart goes out to this family but glad to see they made it safely through the storm.
People always say to get in the bathtub and this man knew what exactly to do to save him and his son. Prayers 🙏
I live in Houston. This was one of the first reports I saw about the tornado. WWL should be proud to have a reporter like this. The interview wasn't rushed. I really got a sense of what this man went through, and the reporter was compassionate about the situation. I think a lot of hearts were tugged on that night. Great job WWL.
OMG! Thank God he listened to that still small voice telling him where to take shelter.
I had just reserved a spot for 7 days at a state park ...to camp out in a tent.. Yesterday was my first night.. but i was concerned about the bad weather all today.. and i already had the tent set up..but for some reason when i saw a tornado watch on my phone at 11am this morning for new Orleans...i decided to leave work early and hurry to break down the tent..by that time i figured it wasn't smart to try and work all day then wait late when the rain is coming down to try and break the tent back down...so when i arrived at the park.. it was only strong winds...and a park worker asked why i was leaving...i said because there's bad weather for tonight...and tornado watch for the area...but she said aww that's normal...it usually isn't that bad..and recommend that i stay despite that.... but i was steady packing and loading up..so when i arrived back in baton rouge and saw on my phone that a tornado touched down...i was so happy that i did what I did.. sometimes you have to go with your instincts..and trust God.. He'll lead you ..i hate tornadoes...and wasn't playing with that
