Allow me to express my gratitude for this well thought out exposition. I am grateful. I recently accepted an offer as a Technical Writer and I was tasked with coming up with SOPs as well as several other standardized documents for the client. While I had a brief scope of what I needed to do, this video completely broke down and elaborated SOPs in Barney style. Thank you immensely!

Thank you for this video, Oscar has a very simple and unique approach to other consultants I’ve seen. I hope someone sees this question: would it not be better suited to create a Process Definition document to describe the processes within a Process Interaction Map diagram, rather than an SOP?

How do you establish SOP’s for knowledge creation , as clinical research? Are these steps suitable to apply for abstracts organizations, as those who produce just knowledge?

Another Question: are SOP’s copyrighted for each organization? Who is the proprietary of SOP’s within an organization?

    • @oscarcombs6310

Yes, this would be considered intellectual property. Make sure to you put the copyright notice on your documents. (C)

It's surprising if you train employees the right way the first time, they remember it and they stick to it. If your standards and expectations keep changing, your employees will just do what they think is best. SOPs provide both YOU and your staff the discipline to stay consistent with how things are done!
Stop answering employee questions - refer them to the SOP. Instead of telling them what needs to happen and why it needs to happen. You need to refer them to the SOP. If you don't have it in SOP form, then you can't hold them accountable to your policy. If the SOP does not exist, ask the employee to create it.
When you have your SOP about “How to take orders from customers when the computer is down”, then you do not have to react to that situation and hurry up and instruct all the employees on what they should be doing, you just say, “go read the SOP”.
