    This could be an hour long interview about the community. I'm glad you kept it short and sweet. Cool place.

    Thanks for interviewing Ray about this! I've been interested in founding a community for a decade. I've sometimes started to doubt the longevity of an ic, since 90% fail. Well, we can see that some do make it. I think that the founding group was friends first helped make this community a lasting one.
    I currently live in a similar rental situation. It is owned by a guy that founded a commune in the 60's. Now he prefers to have tenants and fewer meetings. The decision making here is still somewhat participatory though.

    There's a community of Sufi in East New Lebanon NY. They have a wonderful thing there as well. And farming is wonderful.

    "Man, everybody is so friendly here...." Welcome to the deep south Curtis, the country's best/worst kept secret! It's changing but still retains that basic neighborly spirit, in my opinion. If you tolerate heat and humidity (and every garden disease/pest known to man), it's a great place to live!

    I like the concept of an intentional community, for the past several years, it has not made sense to me for people who don't care for each other to buy houses so close to each other and yet people here do just that and don't even try to get to know their neighbors...not good. We need more intentional communities here in the States. By the way Curtis, feel free to address the very inappropriate and assumptive comment about Rose Creek Village that was put out by a poster here, because it blows my mind how someone like yourself plays awesome and funky music by Birocratic, an artist from NYC and yet somebody had the nerve to say the shit they said below. Thanks in advance.

      No idea what was said by the other person, but you love someone for censoring ideas/thoughts they don't agree with?

      +Sean McFarlane it was a pointlessly racist comment that brought no value.

    • @MicroUrb

      Well said Curtis and to be clear to others, the love we have for Curtis Stone here at MicroUrb is because he is a brother who taught us how to fish, MicroUrb would not exist if it wasn't for Curtis and as an added plus we see Curtis as a well-rounded human being as far as we can tell who literally does not have time for negative thoughts of any kind...that is no easy task (and I have a sneaky suspicion it plays a crucial role in his success). Plus his taste in music, you would think he was from the boogie down Bronx...lol...we love you Curtis!...The software developer in me would be remiss, if I did not also mention that the comment was a violation of RUclips TOS, Curtis could get his site or at least this wonderful post shut down for that type of nonsense. If the comment had been posted on that individual's own website, I would not have asked anyone to censor it, I simply would not have seen it because I do not frequent that type of content and even if I did see something like that on someone's own personal website, I would just click the x button and put it in my rearview.

    My take is that there were existing houses already
    Do everyone pays rent for their house
    Ray is farming on his own, not part of a group
    Which was my first impression

    what was the biggest difference in what you guys taught from last year to this year?

    • @offgridcurtisstone
      @offgridcurtisstone  6 лет назад +1

      The answer is more in the volume of content. We only did a 1 day workshop about tools last year. This was a 5-day workshop covering all the aspects of the business from marketing and building customer relationships to preparing new plots of land and managing tasks on a daily basis.

    • @caseywilson812

      Urban Farmer Curtis Stone the basis in the question was how much do things change for you or ray in systems and maybe new tools. thanks for response

    Hope the rest of the community realizes that with a farm in the very middle of the community they will not go hungry if something goes downhill with everything else!

    • @dawsonmehalko711
      @dawsonmehalko711 6 лет назад

      There is something called community though that truly cares about one another. If everything goes downhill they will work together because there is already a bond.

    Why would that be illegal?

    • @c.s.5177
      @c.s.5177 6 лет назад +3

      It is illegal in several places. In some states you can home birth but cannot have ANY assistance. It is a very underground movement. They want to force hospital births.

    • @JoshMillikan
      @JoshMillikan 6 лет назад +3

      lot of things are made illegal when the government feels they know what is best for you and forces you to follow it. The same thing goes for it being illegal for you to home school your kids in a lot of states. Even though there are many studies out there that show that home school kids do way better in college and on SATs than public schools educated kids.
      when it comes to low risk births, it is more risky and you have more complications at a hospital. Though there is a lack of education around midwifery (and birth in general) in lot of America.

    • @MicroUrb
      @MicroUrb 6 лет назад +2

      every suburb in South Jersey is an unintentional community, people have windows at less than 30 feet from each other and never bother to bring each other a cup of sugar and say "hey neighbor, welcome!"...that's the unintentional community, people living so close to each other and don't bother to get to know each other.

    "Intentional Community"....... sigh
    I get a severe case of hooded dead eyes followed by a slo-mo facepalm every time I hear the latest version of "lefty re-labeling" of long employed practices that predate their arrival by multiple centuries. Townies that go country are sometimes afflicted with severe cases of undiagnosed "Headupbummeritis" that is actually spotted immediately by locals that are too reserved to point it out to them.
