I don't think well see a man on mars in our lifetimes. Extremly expensive, dangerous and with little interest besides the fact of saying "we went to mars !"
It's good to see guys like him, who risk his fortune to build up a dream and step forward in human progress, mostly rich people just invest their money in a speculatively way but don't think of giving nothing new to improve the world.
Rich people's investments employ many...just by investing a few million dollars in the stocked market you would be helping many many people have jobs and their own incomes.
he said this in 2011. now in 2016 he says yeah, we'll first use red dragon 2018 and then send a person in 2020. even if it takes 1 year more... he really would make this promise become a truth.
He now plans to do it by 2024, with the astronauts arriving in 2025. He is a genius, but he tends to be overly optimistic, especially when it comes to dates.
First man on Mars in 2027 is my bet. I don't think the best case scenario is very likely. I would love to be wrong, have been waiting all my life for this. There is a space conference in september, Musk is supposed to talk about he's Mars plans there.
Well, one must aim for the stars to reach the clouds. 2025 is definetly nothing bad, and he would beat NASA to it, provided that the US govt doesn't like shut down his mission or something. I mean, quite embarassing for NASA to be beaten to Mars by a billionaire, when the Soviets couldn't beat NASA to the Moon.

2015: He's not going to put a person in space by next year. The model S is closer to 100k than 50k. Still, I applaud his efforts, his optimism, and his achievements.
But we always need to give his most ambitious time frames about 2X longer. I'd say man on Mars around 2030. He *has ultimately delivered* on the most crucial goals if mostly late to way late. (notable exception: 2014 @ some 30k car production he speculated 500k in 2020 and was mocked for it on The St.)
There is a written interview where the question is asked to Elon "Why not include solar panels to recharge the battery during operation" His chief designer said that due to Elon's math the size Solar cell they could fit on the car would charge it less then 10 miles a year. In order to have a large enough solar panel to get a substantial charge with an on board solar panel it would need to be a 10 foot long solar panel. Elon then said he still pushed to have it on though.
It would be wise to watch several interviews. Musk is humble and not taking credit for anything other than persistance and the understated ability to organize talent to accomplish something meaningful. I admire his ability to eat tons of bitterness and failure to manifest his visions.
***** It also has to be possible to manufacture the cars cheaply. Regardless of Musks's desire to sell a cheaper electric car that performs well, if costs can't be kept down, it won't happen.
jay Day I think a huge cost savings could come if he built the cars somewhere outside of California. There are multiple added costs for having heavy mfg in California. Not too mention the taxes, required labor costs, etc.
ghuegel If it doesn't happen then it won't sell. The Model III is going to be in direct competition with the BMW 3 series, which starts at around $39k. The Model III will definitely be cheap compared to the model S.

+nicolasap86 He is definitely expressing a poorly disguised incredulity or even a contemptuous tone in most of his questioning style. And, while I feel it's important in a good interview to ask tough or pointed questions, you can do so in one of two ways, an encouraging demeanor which I find draws people out more naturally and they open up about things they would otherwise be self conscious of, or a critical demeanor which I find puts people on the defensive and makes them reluctant to fully express themselves. I'd prefer an interview of the first type over the second type any day. This guy was giving an interview of the second type. Bringing up the guys divorce? "Oh, I just saw your ex-wife's face on the screen before I came in here". Are you fucking kidding me? "I don't like to talk about that". "Oh, OK, well let's talk about that a little more". Yeah, the interviewer was kind of a douche in this one.
"We used to look up at the sky and wonder at our place in the stars. Now we just look down, and worry about our place in the dirt. We must reach far beyond our own lifespans. We must think not as individuals but as a species. We're not meant to save the world. We're meant to leave it. This world's a treasure, but it's been telling us to leave for a while now." ーinterstellar,2014

shukry sharby he does know a lot of the technical stuff he did a lot of the coding for paypal and invented a computer game when he was only a young kid and did coding when kids were still learning the alphabet.
Musk & Da Vinci as brothers...wow, there's a movie
That's rediculous, he doesn't paint.
13 years soon 💪
Is it just me or does this interviewer talk to Elon like he owes him money?
I don't think well see a man on mars in our lifetimes. Extremly expensive, dangerous and with little interest besides the fact of saying "we went to mars !"
Wrong. Wealth and unlimited real estate. Mining operations could yield wealth beyond a thousand musks.
Imagine they will have tech to bring Mars within moon range one day
@@johnconnor8937 Mining operations of what? The cost to transport any material from mars would far outweigh the benefits at this point.
Finally someone with common sense and working brain
2024 ... Still here 😶☀️

In the future they will talk about him the way we talk about Thomas Edison

he said this in 2011.
now in 2016 he says yeah, we'll first use red dragon 2018 and then send a person in 2020. even if it takes 1 year more... he really would make this promise become a truth.
+Anton Pedersen Only half embarrassing. It would still be americans after all.

Don't get fooled by the misleading title: 13:50
Alan Murray should NEVER be an interviewer ever again after this interview.
+LiNingAir I only see these types of interviewers in the US, it's an odd culture & 9 times out of 10 they just seem to completely miss the point, I don't know how neil degrasse does it frankly
Who would have guess this guy is a liar.
Title is misleading, he didn't lie about it, at least not yet.
He said 10 years at best, 15-20 years at worst. Still has until 2031 to make good on his prediction.
@@user-oo6ww6bl5x it’s not happening dude he isn’t even close
@@lalos9782 I never said it's happening, all I pointed out was that the title is misleading and the correct year that a video should come out for him to be called a liar.

No:1 Rory why not?
@desarso why ? because he's EMPIRICALLY PROVEN right and being realistic ?
Guys he's talking about mars chocolate.
2015: He's not going to put a person in space by next year. The model S is closer to 100k than 50k. Still, I applaud his efforts, his optimism, and his achievements.
Do you still do that? Self driving/robo taxi/cybertruck/that other truck etc
How time flies. He only had 5 kids when this video came out. Now he's in the double digits.
Wow, just looking at this in 2018 he has changed so much! And become so succesful!
Joy L he’s absolutely unstoppable and amazing
But we always need to give his most ambitious time frames about 2X longer. I'd say man on Mars around 2030.
He *has ultimately delivered* on the most crucial goals if mostly late to way late. (notable exception: 2014 @ some 30k car production he speculated 500k in 2020 and was mocked for it on The St.)
He has always been spectacularly successful and is still exactly the same in terms of values, goals, personality, most important qualities.
And now he's a con artist
@@The_Poro_King he's always been one
There is a written interview where the question is asked to Elon "Why not include solar panels to recharge the battery during operation" His chief designer said that due to Elon's math the size Solar cell they could fit on the car would charge it less then 10 miles a year. In order to have a large enough solar panel to get a substantial charge with an on board solar panel it would need to be a 10 foot long solar panel. Elon then said he still pushed to have it on though.
Elon Musk: I'll put a man on Mars in 10 years
Elon Musk now: cEnSOrSHiP TWittEr
14:00 he said something a bit different.
It would be wise to watch several interviews. Musk is humble and not taking credit for anything other than persistance and the understated ability to organize talent to accomplish something meaningful. I admire his ability to eat tons of bitterness and failure to manifest his visions.
do you still think that?
do you still think that?
well…
Damn, his estimate that the Model S will be $50,000 has me worried about his prediction that there'll be an ~$35,000 Tesla in 3-4 years.
I think there giving up on the affordable car market TBH i think there going to stay in the semi-high end/luxury car market.
Buffs and here we are 2 years later with the model 3 releasing soon at that $35000 base price tag haha.
Can somebody tell me what Elon himself has done/invented/achieved/etc technologically?! As far as I know it's nothing... but I could be wrong, so pls help me internet!
Nothing basically. He is just a brilliant promomachine.

This interviewer is just obnoxious. I feel like he just trying so hard to make Elon doubt his work.
+nicolasap86
He is definitely expressing a poorly disguised incredulity or even a contemptuous tone in most of his questioning style.
+nicolasap86 He's probably regretting it these days. It's cool to see Elon is following through with everything despite people like this.

After reading these comments, I've realize how stupid most people really are. I'm shocked at how much hate this man gets when hes trying to build a future where it benefits humanity greatly, like do you guys not get that we win more with these ideas? Why - when each scientist knows that that VanAllen Belt is 20 000 KM thick, not 2000 MK and
passing that belt is the equivalent of over a 10 million X-rays
why there are people discussing human Mars voyages

yes but no one is saying electricity is currently 100% greenhouse free. Electric grids are powered by coal, but also by wind turbines, geothermal, and other methods that are greenhouse gas free. So the efficiency between the two are significantly different.
Mars got a tiny bit closer today with SN15 successfully landing.

I vote that Elon be the man to go. in fact, we should send as soon as the technology to get through the Van Allen belts is "found " again (since they claim to have lost it)
