ALL-AMERICAN: an AAPI Group Art Show Teaser

“All-American” forces us to re-examine what it means to be… “All-American”. Featuring a list of some of the most talented AAPI artists from across the country, “All-American” aims to highlight the AAPI community as being associated to being unequivocally “All-American”. A nod to the first Asian-American family of the silver screen, “All-American” focuses on celebrating a community whose contributions, devastations, stories, and identities have been historically erased and continues to be ignored today. This group show is an effort to amplify the voices, experiences, and faces of the AAPI community by putting them up on the walls so they can no longer be ignored. “All-American” intrinsically captures the foundation of being an “American” by prioritizing the freedom to be yourself and being held by your own merits.
Maxine Hong Kingston once said “In a time of destruction, create something.” As the AAPI community is under attack, it is time to reevaluate the biases we have been conditioned to tie to being American and by extension how AAPI people have been “othered”. By presenting a full AAPI artist lineup, the show will intrinsically show the AAPI experience whether the artist features some aspect of their ethnic heritage or not, because as with every individual’s distinctive life, the AAPI experience is not monolithic, but also unique to each individual. Be prepared to experience a wide range of styles and visuals that will help to paint their truths. Most importantly, be ready to bring joy and awareness by celebrating the stunning contributions of these Americans, who are proud to be part of the AAPI community. Proceeds from the show will benefit the Stop AAPI Hate organization in their fight to protect the AAPI community. “All-American” is co-curated by Julia Chon and Andy Song along with Ewkuks.
