Quentin Terrintino said in an interview that it was actually Butch (Bruce Willis) who keyed Vincent’s car. He was angry after their conversation
Haha perfect
@@ShreeNation i think you cut some important Tarantino words why ?:D
FUN FACT: The largest chunk of the movie's budget went to creating the Jack Rabbit Slim's set, which cost $150,000. It was built in a warehouse in Culver City.
$5 in 1994 is about $9 now, not insanely expensive but enough for you to go "Damn, that's a lot for a milkshake".
The theme of the restaurant is 1950's / early 1960's kitch. Bucemi's waiter is Buddy, as in Buddy Holly... they dance "The Twist" and the "Batuci" from the Batman show,, 2 popular dances from the 60s, and they have an Ed Sullivan impersonator... he was the host of the biggest variety show of the 60s, that also introduced The Beatles to America.
“We have a rully big shew for you tonight!”
It wasn't the "Batusi", it was the Watusi (a stupid dance from the early 1960's, but there you go), which the Batusi was a parody of on Batman. And The Ed Sullivan Show ran from the 1940's to the 1970's. It wasn't exactly a 60's show.
Since Jules retired after the miracle, it was Marsellus and Vincent staking out Butch's apartment. They probably didn't expect Butch to come back, either way Marsellus stepped out for them some coffee and donuts or whatever. That's why Butch ran into him after leaving his place down the street.
That makes sense :)
Vincent and his bathroom trips finally got the best of him.
Heroin constipates you. I don’t agree with Marcellus going on a coffee run
@@MikeB12800
Well, cigarettes coffee and reading brings on pooping, I guess Butch didn't have any coffee around.
Pop-tarts though.
@@MikeB12800 Marcellus is wealthy, he doesn't live two blocks from Butch's apartment. That's also why Vince didn't react to the noise Butch was making, he thought Marcellus had come back.
Steve Buscemi has been in a ton of great movies, but his performance in Boardwalk Empire was phenomenal! Fun fact, if it hasn't already been mentioned, but he was also a fireman before he got famous, and he volunteered with the first responder firemen in NYC when 9/11 happened. Not for the publicity or anything, it wasn't found out he was there until waaaaay after the fact. He was just there as a citizen fireman helping out.
Yes I've heard of that, what an amazing man and a phenomenal actor👏❤
Lesser-known fun fact: the filming of Spy Kids 2 was around the time of 9/11. Which means the line 'Do you think God stays up in heaven because he, too, lives in fear of what he's created' would have been fresh in his mind as he helped put out the fires.
I actually think Tarantino is a great actor in his scenes
How? He's been great in other things but his acting in this is SO bad
Yes I agree 👍💯
It just get over my head. I'm glad I'm a moron, I don't see the bad acting, thus I still appreciate the movie nor I cringe.
Well... I sometimes do see bad acting. I just don't see it here.
Now that you say it I kinda understand it's not a "well played" scene indeed. But that's it. I just ignore it, not hate it.
I think it’s great work. I love how pissed he is that he has to deal with this bloody mess.
He's objectively TERRIBLE in this. And he's not only my favorite director of all time, but this is my favorite of his movies. The LINES were hilarious and interesting, which is what you're responding to. But the acting was absolutely horrendous. Like, embarrassingly horrible. I'd actually be really surprised if one or many of his actor friends didn't try to talk him out of doing the scene, but he was too stubborn to back down. I can only just let it slide because the "Dead N Storage" moment was one of the funniest parts in the whole movie. But the acting was shockingly bad.
45:36 - "Whoa! Stop waving your gun around." I laughed so hard when I heard that line knowing what was coming next.! :-)
Someone broke "Pulp Fiction" down to me as a series of interconnecting storylines. In which each person is the protagonist in their own story. So when each story is happening the story comes from the protagonist's point of view. When Jules is in the room speaking to Brad, it's from his point of view. When Butch has to go back for the watch and save Marcellus it's from his point of view. When Vincent goes to dinner with Mia it's from Vincent's point of view. So although the characters and storylines have interconnection, it all depends on the lens through which it is viewed. AT the start of the movie we see the robbery through the eyes of Bonnie and Clyde, by the end of the movie we see it through the eyes of Jules because he is a more important character throughout the plot of this movie. Everyone is surprised when Vincent gets killed, but he was in Butch's storyline when he got shot. An amazing way to flip the perspective of multiple seemingly unrelated storylines throughout a movie. Using the subtext of one storyline to drive the plot of another storyline.
It's not Brad it's Brett
This isn't exactly a new technique however. Akira Kurosawa first used it in his 1950 masterpiece Rashomon, telling the story of a rape/murder of a bride and her samurai husband from 4 different perspectives with overlapping timelines. The American film maker Robert Altman used similar techniques in his 1970's masterpieces Nashville and McCabe and Mrs. Miller. Tarantino however did apply the technique to his post modernist film style making a different kind of movie to what mainstream audiences were used to. One thing that was different about the 1980s and 90s from today is that film was a lot more daring and unpredictable.
“Aww man, I shot Marvin in the face.” That never gets old to me. 😂😂😂
you'd think vincent would have had safety on
Shree nation, the reason he was soo pissed about it cause when he was keeping Marcellus Wallace eyes on butch prepping for the fight butch had her pack everything so they would be ready to leave for the run that's why he was soo pissed that she grapped everything but the most important item that had the most sentimental value, so keep saying that he's a ass or losing his shit for no reason is unfair to say cause you didn't analyze what was being shown properly.
Marcellus was bringing Vince food and drink at Butch’s apartment. Jules wasn’t with Vince because he had already retired.
and it was Marcellus' gun laying on the counter when he went on the coffee run.
Damn! I missed that detail. Great writing!
And Butch wiped the gun before leaving but didn't wipe anything else because it was his apartment. His fingerprints were on everything, and that was fine.
That’s complete speculation!why would Marcellus be on a coffee run when he’s the boss?
Love this reaction. i love the fact that you treated your viewers like adults and didn't censor all the swearing out.
:)
The reaction people who censor profanity do it because it affects monetization and audience reach. Some who started out not bleeping it eventually did.
I believe Marcellus was on lookout for Butch with Vincent as a fill in for the unexpected loss of Jules. He probably stepped out to get the two of them breakfast at a shop not too far from Butch's home.
I've always thought that too, and am surprised nobody ever seems to connect those dots. That's why Marcelus was so close to Butch's apartment, and why he had what looked like donuts and coffee for two in his hands. Also explains why Vincent didn't react to hearing a person moving around in the apartment.....he assumed it was Marcelus returning from his food run.
Marcellus was at Butch's with Vincent and whent for coffee and donuts. Thats why Vinvcent didn't react when he heard the door open and him rumiging around the cabinets. He was expecting Marcelus to return with the cofee.
If you think of the scenes in order, it's a movie about a couple of hitmen who get sign after sign over the course of a day telling them to quit the life, Jules does, but Vincent doesn't. The very next day, a bizarre confluence of events leads to Vincent's death. In order, it's not really disconnected vignettes. Love It!
This was very early in Tarantino‘s acting career he was decent in from dust till Dawn
I don't think his acting was bad in this movie. He acted just like a regular, slightly awkward person would act. We don't go through our lives as if we are Daniel Day Lewis in a movie.
I used to think Marcelus walking on the street was a coincidence, but in hindsight, he was probably on the mission with Travolta substituting for the retired Jackson.
_"Five dollars must be a heck of a lot of money back in the day."_
For a milkshake, it was. Back in 1994, if memory serves, an average milkshake cost about ONE dollar.
But the movie is likely based in the 70's so 5 bucks was really a lot
Marcellus walking down the street and seeing Butch in the car is a direct homage to the movie Psycho by Hitchcock which has the exact same scene with the character played by Janet Leigh and her boss while she tries to skip town without him knowing it.
Love Pulp Fiction and have read up on lots of trivia, first time I have heard that. Totally see it! Thanks.

Actually, i didn't read it or got confirmation but knowing that tarantino is a movie buff who likes to reference other films in his movies (in kill bill for example there are clear references to the movies Lady Snowblood and Thriller: a cruel picture) and given that the scene is exactly the same as in psycho, i have no doubt he was inspired by it.
Imagine being in high school watching this for the first time. I was 16 when this movie came out and I remember some of my classmates gushing over this movie, so I ended up going to see it at the movie's and it was one of those movies that made me realize this was one of those movies that would totally appeal to edgy teenager's. Wasn't until I watched it again at 21, when I had gone through some shit in my personal life, physically and psychologically, that I appreciated the series of interlocking stories being told, this was so good, I was surprised I didn't pay it any mind back when I was 16, I definitely enjoyed it more as an adult, and still revisit this one up to today
We use the metric system in Denmark, but we can still by a Quater Pounder at McD
"Just so you know: You hurt him, you die."
There's a lot of love in that line. Yolanda is as devoted as she is crazy.
One of my all time favorite characters.
YEEEE BLOODY HAWWWWW! Really? When my ex used to look at after I would tell her "Fuck you." And just go "shhhh". John Travolta shows us he can still dance.
This was a movie I came out of the theater a little confused because of the alternating time line but knew it was brilliant and was very entertaining. Watched again a week later and it all fell into place. Have to say this is probably the movie I have seen more times than any other in my lifetime.
I have never laughed harder in the theater, than I did in 94' watching this for the first time.
Tarantino has actually studied acting - and he ain't bad here
I remember I thought he was an odd actor when I was younger, but since then I’ve seen some interviews, and he’s just an odd dude 😂. So really, he’s very natural to his real demeanor in his line delivery. And even without that he’s always done his part well
I want to help you out, but I don’t want to get divorced doing it!!!!!
I love how he delivers those lines.
I don’t understand why people have a problem with that. This is the first I’ve ever heard of people thinking that. I love his acting.
Gets better every time you watch it. I've seen it about 20 times now and still not bored of it. Once you know it it becomes a comedy because of all the dark humor in it.
Steve Buscemi is the guy from Broadwalk Empire. Not many people have spotted that cameo as Buddy Holly. Well done! Also Broadwalk Empire is an underwater show.
i love that the asswatch is included in the story.. not only is it christopher walken at his finest, but this idea of a kind of cursed my precious ass watch, going thru time affecting so much is nice
There’s a theory that the briefcase contains Marcellus Wallace’s soul. It’s a McGuffin though.
Each act is a stereotype of a pulp fiction novel.
I saw this originally in the theater and I had the same ? Immediately afterwards but thought about it for weeks afterwards and remember every scene decades later. I think it requires time to digest and think to really come to appreciate it.
"No Country For Old Men" is the only film that has had a similar effect on me.
Quentin Tarantino later revealed that it was butch that keyed Vincent's car, he did it after he and vincent had the stand off at the bar
haha @ 39:55 - "He's gonna get medieval". Great premonition of an upcoming line. :)
@ 57:01 Quentin Tarantino wants the audience to come up with their own conclusions of the mystery glowing "item" in the suitcase.
What's in the briefcase is essentially what Hitchcock called a Macguffin, a device used to further the plot and nothing more. It's not really important what it actually is, only that everyone wants it. The Maltese Falcon served the same purpose in that movie. That being said there are theories that it was Marcellus Wallace's soul that he sold for being a successful criminal. The 666 combo. The eerie glow and the band aid on the back of his neck in the movie (where the soul is said to be extracted from) are all clues.
39:55 - "He's gonna get medieval right now!" That's crazy - 'Pulp Fiction' is credited with making the phrase "get medieval" popular. " I ain't through with you by a damn sight. I'm gonna git Medieval on your ass." (I don't think the movie was the first place the phrase appeared but it definitely brought it into popular culture.)
I noticed that too! I see a lot of reaction videos where someone will say "OH that's where the meme comes from!" but I've never seen anyone literally use the quote right before it happens :)
I wonder what they would have said in the medieval period? “I’m about to get classical antiquity on your ass”? It doesn’t have quite the threatening ring to it. Maybe “I’m about to get Bronze Age on your ass”? I guess “about to get barbaric” would have worked.
I would definitely watch True Romance, Desperado, and Once Upon a Time in Mexico. All very similar and pretty good in their own right.
I can't wait😍
Yeah, this film is non linear in its progression.
All the dance moves they did in the film were from actual dances from the time period of the song. They were actual dances with choreographed moves. Also yes you can snort heroin but you can't snort it in the amount Mia did. She assumed it was cocaine because of how it was packaged. She did an amount no heroin user would snort at one setting.
hey Shree. I hope you notice that every time Vincent has gone to the bathroom (3 times), something bad happens.
Plus he was reading the same book in all the instances. The reason he was always in the bathroom, was from the fact that Vincent gave up Heroin after the Mia overdose incident. Heroin makes you constipated. Once Vincent gave it up, he had to go to the bathroom all the time. Also, as a side note, withdrawal from heroin can make your body muscles (aka the finger on the trigger) unexpectedly contract or twitch.
Thank you for the info :) Now it makes sense.
@@ShreeNation Also the book he's reading is "Modesty Blaise" a classic pulp fiction character.
the exception being when he was reading in the bathroom at the end. That was just a long, constipated poo. It was prior to his "date" with Mia, in the timeline.
You mentioned Kill Bill when Butch grabbed the katana. It was while making this movie that "Q & U" (Tarantino and Thurman) dreamed up the character of The Bride from Kill Bill.
Nice! 😍
39:55 I'm sorry, did you just say he was going to get "Medieval"???
Hell yeah
At least Tarantino's acting is more fun, memorable and has more emotion than Shyamalan's acting.
Can't argue with that
I love Tarantino’s acting!
Steve Buscemi as the Buddy Holly dressed waiter. You need to see Resevoir Dogs, cause Vincent Vega's brother is in it, Vic Vega/Mr. Blonde (played by Michael Madsen, who also was the original choice for the role of Vincent but he had to turn it down cause he was busy doing another movie which was Wyatt Earp). Daniel Day-Lewis was also considered as Vincent and even auditioned, and Bruce Willis originally wanted to play Vincent, but Tarantino already promised that role to John Travolta, but he also accepted the role of Butch (which was originally considered for Mickey Rourke, who turned it down, and in a previous draft of the script Butch was originally an up and coming boxer instead of a has-been never made to the top boxer, and Matt Dillon was considered for the up and coming-version of Butch).
$5 shake is like $10 today and that was Steve Buschemi. He starred in Quintons first film Reservoir Dogs.
"I can't believe it man..." - perhaps Travolta's best line ever.
My fav lines?! Marcellous telling his men "I don't care if his azz go to china..I want a mo-fo waitin'n a bowl rice to put a cap in his azz" And Jules telling Vince" I used the same soap you did and my towel don't look like no used maxi-pad!"
this is what happens every time Tarantino gives free rein to his imagination; a classic.
The actors name you were thinking of is Steve Buscemi and he had also starred in Tarantino's film Reservoir Dogs as well.
Great reaction! Seeing you appreciate this movie makes me (and lots of your followers) happy! By the way, Vincent was in the bathroom so often because heroin addicts often suffer from constipation.
Thank you 🥰
Pulp fiction. Is around one of the best movies of all time. 👍 my absolute favorite.
I shook Quintin's hand in line at the 'Bucks in 2003. "Best f..king movie ever!" I exclaimed and he said "thanks, man!". I was referring to Kill Bill Part 1 which had been out for 7 weeks.
FYI! Referring to the dance contest, The Twist came out in 1958. I won many of those contests.
Fun fact, the Ezekiel speech was originally meant to be in, From Dusk Till Dawn......Harvey Keitel's character was meant to say it, they used, The Lords Prayer instead
The Christopher Walken ass watch monologue is one of the best things ever filmed.
Another “subtle” touch that I like in this movie is the scene where Butch/Bruce is picking a weapon in the pawnshop. Everything he picks up and considers at first is not MEANT to be a weapon, they can double up and be a weapon in a pinch but the sword he picks is the only thing that was meant to be a weapon.
“You are the weak. And I am the tyranny of evil men”. Now that’s an epiphany.
Indeed!
Probably the most quated Samuel L. Jackson movie.
What?
Jimmy would need to get rid of the blood stained hand towels Vic used in that movie
Detail: When Marcellus walks across the road - it IS right outside of Butch's home, right? He is carrying TWO morning coffees on top of a BOX of donuts! Who's dead inside the apartment? So - that's why he runs into Marcellus so coincidentally; Marcellus and Vincent were there together, hanging out, staking, waiting for Butch to make a move - even preparing for a long morning.
Pulp Fiction is of of my favorite soundtracks and I wore the CD out in the 90s. Tarantino puts together a great soundtrack. Death Proof's is also top tier.
I can't wait for Death Proof!
@@ShreeNation Make sure you're ready for it. Haha
Shree, One of the the main themes of the movie is redemption. All of the characters get a second chance after a somewhat selfless act. Vincent chooses not to sleep with Mia and saves her life after she OD's. Butch is allowed to leave LA alive after saving Marcellus. And Jules helps Honey Bunny and Yolanda after the "act of God." He reads the tea leaves and leaves the gangster life. Vincent doesn't, and he pays with his life after running into Butch whom he previously, and needlessly insulted.
My favorite film. I've literally lost count of how many times I've seen it. So glad you enjoyed it. Tarantino is the goat!!
“It’s an ass watch… it changes things” 😅😅😅 it does!
"He is gonna get MEDIEVAL right now" That was so foreshadowing...... ........ .......... .......................
I believe that $5 in 1994 was worth about $10 today, which doesn't seem to me to be a huge sum, even for a milkshake.
“It’s an ass watch…” perfect, love.
😁
I love how quick the kid grabs the ass-watch.
Marcellus walking down the street isn´t coinicidential. He was there with Vincent waiting for Butch, but picking up breakfast. And the timeline isn´t over the place, it is brilliant.
The reason Tarantino can't tell a story in order is because he was inspired/influenced by Stanley Kubrick's 1956 heist movie "The Killing." Tarantino's first movie "Reservoir Dogs" is a more direct homage. "Dogs" lifts it's plot and a even a lot of identical scenes and shots from A Hong Kong movie called "City on Fire" (1987 dir Ringo Lam) but the story is told in the style of "The Killing"
Don’t know if you’ve seen Saturday Night Fever, but Travolta can really dance. Killer soundtrack featuring The Bee Gees.
I will check it out!
Samuel Jackson always makes me laugh hard in the "WHAT?!" scene 😂
Butch couldn't bring the watch with him. Hes supposed to throw the fight. They're going to be there at the fight waiting for him. He can't wear it into the ring.
Exactly. This girl is just having a libtard heart attack without thinking of obvious stuff. Thats what they do
Entertaining reaction! I love this movie, one of my top 5. I like Tarantinos earlier movies the most. The soundtrack is amazing too.
Thank you :)
There must be versions of this film where the whole scene of Vincent and Mia conversing before going out are cut because it appears to just jump to Vincent and Mia arriving at the restaurant right after the foot scene.
There are deleted scenes, one of them is where Mia comes down with a camera, filming Vincent and "interviewing him" asking questions such as "Beatles or Elvis Presley?" In the resturant scene there's a deleted conversation about a place in Amsterdam where Vincent lived & what he did there.
That nervous laugh was so damn organic
Thanks for the upload! Great commentary :)
Thank you so much 🥲
I love that we never see the contents of the briefcase. I also think it’s more fun to hear all the “crazy” theories of what’s in there.
-The Soul of Marcellus Wallace
-The Diamonds from the Heist in Reservoir Dogs
-The Oscar/Award Tarantino should’ve won for this movie
-A gold jumpsuit once worn by Elvis.
And maybe more ideas.
A yellow light bulb, a battery and a switch
@@TheNeonRabbit 🤣🤣🤣 who knows maybe that was really beautiful to Ringo.
Great reaction to a great movie.
A popular (but unconfirmed) theory about the briefcase is that it contains a halo that Marcellus needs to buy his soul back from the Devil. This is why he has a Band-Aid on the back of his neck; that's from where his soul was extracted. The combination on the case also helps this theory, but like I said, it's unconfirmed.
Interesting theory, thank you :)
Wonderful reaction thanks for your honesty and actually paying attention to the film.
Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed 🙏🙏
Where i live is a primarily latino (Mexican) area, they put mayonnaise and chili pepper on the street corn. I refused to try for so long, now I love it on grilled corn.
I gotta try that :)
Duuude! You pointing out that "The Wolf" uses a cloth to touch the phone, so he doesn't leave fingerprints...I've seen this movie so many damn times, and NEVER noticed that! Fucking dope!
Thanks🥰
His first film was shot mostly Gonzo style and still my favorite. Reservoir Dogs! His first non directed movie but scripted was True Romance! Now that's star stuffed and loaded with twists! It's Quentin's imaginary life as a film, when he was a video store clerk! I think this is an homage to a very old Kubrick film, The Killing.
If you think Tarantino is a bad actor, you need to watch "From dusk till dawn" :-)
Now i gotta :)
I was scrolling to see if anyone mentioned this.
100% agree he was great in that
John Travolta's a good dancer, he got famous for the dance movie he was in, "Saturday Night Fever" Uma Thurman needs lessons.
Yes Marcellus is too chill and... he's sitting down. So both Mia and Marcellus have a secret they'll take to their graves. Oh and Vincent did take his secret to the grave so to speak. Great reaction Shree thank you. Yes i revisited this again.
Thanks for watching 😇🙏
Butch was going to be in a boxing match. He couldn’t wear it in the ring. He couldn’t leave it in a locker at the arena because someone might steal it. That’s why he had to rely on his girlfriend to bring the watch. He reminded her to bring it. His dismay is very understandable.
I wonder what Marsellus thought when he found out Vince was dead in Butch's apartment. I never thought about that in all these years.
Yeah it always bummed me out that Travolta's character died even though you see him again later. He was really likeable.
They have all kinds of theories about what's in the actual brief case & it ranges anywhere from Marcellus actual soul being in the briefcase... all the way to it being gold Nazi bullion from Fort Knox , there's a lot of crazy theories out there about it but the only one that makes perfect sense is it being the diamonds /whatever jewelry they actually stole Tarantino's first film *Reservoir Dogs* simply because of the fact that he made a "Tarantino" universe & Vincent Vega is actually the brother of Victor Vega , the serial killer/robber from *Reservoir Dogs* that helped steal the diamonds during the heist in that film (QT wrote a script for a story called *The Vega Bros.* but both John Travolta & Michael Madson are too old to play as those characters in a prequel about them obviously but it could have been done if he wouldn't of made all the other films he chose to make after *Pulp Fiction* which were all the movies that got him really famous & familiar to everyone such as *Kill Bill* & *Inglorious Bastards* !!! I honestly think he could have made those films later so he could have done *The Vega Bros* instead while the two actors were still fairly young but hopefully we will get atleast a comic book version or novel of it❤️
Tarantino didn’t do a bad job of acting. He’s pissed off that they came to him and put his marriage at risk. I don’t know about you but I don’t think I would be happy about that situation either. His dialogue is probably my favourite thing about his movies.
Nominated for 7 Oscars including Best Picture but won for Best Original Screenplay
It's definitely one crazy but unforgettable movie😊. No weight problems..Beautiful SHREE❤😉
Thank you so much 😇

25:38 "Damn, that watch has seen a generation go to war."
Yes, that watch has really seen some _sh*t_
I have seen this movie about a hundred times. I never paid much attention to the "Unforgiven" reference before.
I like Tarentino's hat tip to Eastwood. There was only 2 years difference between Pulp Fiction and "Unforgiven."
Marcellus Wallace's soul was in the case remember the Band-Aid on the back of Marsellus's neck.
OMG!
To put the price of the $5 shake in perspective. You could buy a Whopper from Burger King for a $1 in 1994 when this was made
It was Butch who key'd Vincent's car, after Vincent had disrespected him at the bar.
In Captain America: The Winter Soldier "the path of the righteous man" is on Nick Fury's tomb stone as a reference to this movie.
Nice!
Marvin tried to set Julesand Vincent up that he didn't warn them about the guy in the bathroom
