At the cost of 300 Spartans, they crippled a covenant shipyard, which was producing 12 ships at the time. Each ship is equivalent to three human ships of the same tonnage, which is a crippling blow to the covenant.

Spartan 3’s were war orphans that were given a less potent cocktail of enhancements that guaranteed survival but didn’t make them as physically capable as a Spartan 2. It was noted however that the Spartan 3 enhancements did enhance their adrenal glands to the point that they could experience enhanced reactivity that was referred to as “Spartan time.” But they were essentially disposable shock troops meant to buy time for the UNSC.

Spartan-IIIs enhancements were a quantum leap over the Spartan-II project and yielded the same practical results.
The issue was that Spartan-IIs had genetics that made them basically superhuman naturally, while the Spartan-III had a larger pool of candidates due to the higher augmentation success rate.
Spartan-IIIs that had the same genetics as Spartan-II candidates, like the ones in NOBLE team, were basically indistinguishable from Spartan-IIs and thus equipped and treated as such.

The spartan-4 program was developed when the UNSC worked out how to implement the Spartan enhancements on adults. They saw haveing larger amounts of Spartan-4's as a better option than a small cadre of super soldier Spartan-2 or Spartan-3's.

Got the number of spartan II’s that were abducted it was around 147 cadets and only 72 survived and then 33 became active Spartans while the others were given officer positions and put in places to strategically secure positions for battle, since they were all defective, because the augmentations they received crippled their boddies.

I think the best way to explain the differences between SPARTAN IIs, IIIs, and IVs is that the IIs are like the Greek Titans, the IIIs are like the Olympian G-ds, and the IVs are like demig-ds. (This is how it’s explained in one of the novels about Buck)

I never really thought about it till now but I think one of the reasons they get the soldiers so young and the reason they call them spartans is cause in the real world of rome spartan soldiers from actual history were raised from 7 years old under harsh conditions and thats the reason the army of rome was so formidable and so the halo universe taking 6 year old giving them armour, training, and enhancments, calling them Spartans, is a subtile if not flat out nod to the real world Spartans of rome

I used to not like the Spartan IVs, mainly because of their characterisation in Halo 4, and Spartan Ops. I came around to liking them a ton after reading the Rubicon Protocol.
It does a great job humanising them, and giving insights into their mindsets, primarily their frustrations at failure even when it's far outside of their control.
Spartans Stone, Kovan and Horvath were definitely the main highlights.
    For exmaple
Whilst evacuating Infinity, Spartan Kovan aims her escape pod into a Phantom that was firing upon another escape pod, her pod slicing through the hull before coming to a stop. The phantom then crashes into the ground, before she clears up the sangheili inside. She then gives some intel to another team of Spartans, dropping a "Нет problem." when they thank her, and then getting straight back to it

It was said that in the Human-Covenant, the human resistance was seen to the Covenant as: Drowning the Covenant in Human Blood.
Spartan-III's were basically the poster child of that saying😢

Spartan II's are a different breed. I remember reading a novel that stated by age 11 they were significantly taller than an average man and (I think) stronger. Their reflexes were unparalleled due to EXTENSIVE genetic enhancement. I think only a third of these children survived the enhancements before being able to be trained.

  • @johnmacdonald4821

The children used to make spartan 3s were not chosen at random. The candidates were orphaned by the covenant.

Many of the spartan 2s who didn't make the enhancements but still survived were given to the UNSC's intelligence program, ONI, so they could still be of some use for the unsc. And If I remember correctly a few surpassed Master Chief's Rank and deliberately tried to put MC in suicide missions

  • @awsm253

Spartan 2's. They survived the procedures, Then they survived reach. And those that remain, survived years of conflict with the covenant. All while dealing with major PTSD and utilizing pretty out-dated armor (They had it updated here and there but you get the point)
There is a reason why everything not a UNSC member is terrified of MC

Glossing over the fact that the 3s were meant to be mass produced: hence why their armor was cheaper to mitigate bulk cost.
Iirc, Lone Wolf was a Spartan-3 and is the only "hyper-lethal" classified asset other than Master-Chief himself.

Even among the higher echelons of the UNSC the Spartan 2s were mythical creatures.
To put it in perspective one of them destroyed a halo ring by himself with minimal help from others.
The UNSC treated Spartan 2s like tactical nukes. When all else failed they didn’t.

  • @RoyalFusilier

Spartan 4s are at the point where they're basically just augmented marines, or the next step up from ODSTs. Which is a big part of their appeal militarily - quantity has a quality all its own.

Spartan 3s did have requirements, they were just less strict than the 2s'. Then there are the Cat 2s, who are basically Spartan 2s.
