      Megan Ouellette I should have been clearer, it just means pesticides approved for organic farming. I’ll edit my original comment for clarity. From what I understand, organic pesticides are non-synthetic and conventional farming allows for synthetic or non-synthetic pesticides. Scientific consensus doesn’t say that either synthetic or non-synthetic on the whole is better, healthier, or safer. There are benefits and risks in both categories.

    • @FantaFaraday
      @FantaFaraday 4 года назад +11

      @@guttergrl4982 Organic farming has a criteria they are to follow and they can face the same disease, insect, and other issues that conventional farming faces. IPM is encouraged ( well, for conventional and organic) and aside from mechanical and cultural controls used there is a list of allowed and prohibited substances in the US (other countries too, I'm just not as familiar) An organic pesticide essentially just means it is derived from mineral, animal or plant instead of synthetically. That being said, there are select synthetic approved products on the list but far fewer than conventional farming. People tend to automatically equate organic to no pesticide use and that is not always the case. Heck, rotenone used to be on the approved list but it is now on the prohibited nonsynthetic list.

      Also, pesticides are GOOD. Without them a vast majority of people wouldn't have fresh produce, or food in general. There are ones that are better for the environment in general than others, certainly. Those that are extremely harmful have thankfully been banned heavily regulated.
      But trace amounts of normal pesticides don't harm you, your gut, your pets, or your kids. They're meant to kill bugs. Not humans.

This would just be too long if I talked about everything wrong here. But as a historian, I want to say that human beings have not only been eating grain for a very long time, but also, grains are responsible for making us healthier and live longer as a species. We "took off" after we learned to cultivate grains, because they're so nutritious. Whole grains belong in a healthy diet, unless one has an actual physical condition that makes it necessary to avoid them. That is all.

And also from a lifetime of reading National Geographic and Smithsonian magazines, and studying Archaeology and Anthropology as well as History at university. I'm glad other people mentioned some books for you, but I don't know what they say. Just be careful of your sources. Unnatural Vegan always gives her sources, which are solid, and that's a good reason to follow her. Make sure the source of information is good, that's the main thing. Are the authors of the book well-educated, and do they cite experts in the field of nutrition? Popular diet books often have no scientific evidence to back up what they're trying to sell you. Become picky about where you get your information. And also, don't be too serious about anything, no one eats "perfectly," just do your best.

      Well, comparing vinegar to apple cider vinegar? Funny. And it’s recommended to use just a table spoon disolved in a glass of water, some mix it with honey. It helps you digest food coz it helps change ph to more acidic in your stomach...
      Baking soda is also used for cleaning, we shouldn’t use it in baked goods then? c’mon... such a cheap comparison...

    • @kat284
      @kat284 4 года назад +6

      Łucja Stark darling, your body will never allow you to alter your acidity or alkaline state. We are perfectly balanced. If anything by adding extra acid your messing up your stomach so stop drinking rubbish and eat normally. If you want help digesting food take a tablet or two of digestive enzymes those helps whereas adding acid doesn’t...

    "We don't know if microplastics in the water are dangerous"
    So should't we assume that it's unsafe until we have more information? Is this not how safety testing works..?

    • @koirasikin
      @koirasikin 4 года назад +1

      Yes but also then freaking out about it and claiming that yes in fact, microplastics are dangerous for us is spreading false information. The thing is that we don't know if its unsafe, but saying that you should not drink tapwater because it has plastic in it is fake news. It's okay to be worried about it, but acting like you know more than professionals is not okay.

    • @jen_sa
      @jen_sa 4 года назад +2

      @@koirasikin i'm not defending her. I don't quite understand your comment though.. why is it "fake news"? isn't it prudent to avoid water containing potentially unsafe ingredients (until proven otherwise)? If a new untested medicine were to be introduced, we would't just keep prescribing it saying "well, it's ok to worry about it, but we don't know that it's dangerous yet"..

      @koirasikin 4 года назад +1

      @Michelle Case The problem is that she's claiming it's dangerous without any real evidence (yes I personally wouldn't drink tap water with microplastics in it either) and spreading false information. There's difference between saying "i don't personally do thing x bc im afraid it might be unhealthy to do so, however there isn't any factual evidence against it yet so take this as a grain of salt" and "don't do thing x it's dangerous"

    • @laurenlewis6838
      @laurenlewis6838 4 года назад +4

      Also thats not necessarily true. If we didn't use things until we knew they were 100% safe then a lot of things wouldn't be used or consumed. We're still debating whether certain foods are "healthy" and "safe" but its clear theyre not so detrimental that we don't need to pull it from shelves. Something can be not optimal but we don't have to completely avoid everything if it doesn't pose an immediate threat.

    Also when she mentions about not eating fruits farther away from the equator it may also be a reference to trying to eat local produce? Something more nearby you. In that sense, then yes because it would reduce carbon footprint and waste because the food didn’t have to travel as far to get to you.

    • @shariwelch8760
