I think Maynard's voice sounds the best ever in this song....it gives me goosebumps
holly cook I’ve always felt the same about this one!!
Just thikng about it makes goosebumpa
It breaks my heart. In a good way.
Yeah same, for me the vocals are my favourite part of this song!
@@jcruz2651 The emotion Maynard puts into that Sober performance is breathtaking!
"I did this song with Maynard from Tool. Basically, I told him I wanted to create a scenario of being in a car and being taken for a drive when you don't really know what's going on. I wanted him to create a lot of imagery. he wrote a majority of the of the lyrics and left blanks for me to fill in. it seems like you're being held captive, but enjoy what's going on." - Chino
Thanks for this quote. This is great!
yeh dude thanks for putting that in
All time favorite deftones song!
Ok did MJK write the lyrics?
Thanks b
Chino and Maynard...
Perfect combination
The maynard part was actually my favorite part of the song
There were many Maynard parts
Yes!
@@adelineinactivity ngl this whole time I thought Maynard did all the vocals in this one
Deftones - My Own Summer (Shove It) - you guys need to hear that riff....
the summer has ended and u have to go back to school - so please do both :D
Shove it.... ;)
Anything in the catalog except My Own Summer. The people that worship that song above anything else on Around the Fur, never actually owned the album.
Yes Gary! That guitar riff gives me an eargasm!
He goes nuts in the bridge too. I love this song
Maynard came into the studio while both A Perfect Circle and Deftones were working on Mer De Noms and White Pony. Completely by chance. Definitely give this one another chance, and START REACTING TO SOME A PERFECT CIRCLE! ;)
Camron Fritts perfect circle reaction would be awesome.
Judith
Breña or 3 libras🤘🏼
Gotta react to Magdalena!
Camron, I'm not saying you're wrong in the MJK & Deftones tale, just read something a bit different. It was that they were fans of each other & casually stated that they should work together. Never did until they were in the same studio & ran into each other. MJK was asked to come in & check out things in hope that he might work on one track. Most of the tracks were almost complete, but Passenger wasn't & debated on being used. He liked it & Deftones worked on finishing it with him added to it(changing the theme & lyrics).
Yet, like anything dealing with entertainment, tales of work changes depending on who is telling the story.
At this point you guys should really listen to the whole white pony album lol
Even though its not technically supposed to be part of the album, I bet they'd go nuts for Back to School :-)
The best song on White Pony is not even on White Pony unless you bought the limited edition "The Boy's Republic" /watch?v=EfxZBxUOPfo So many people have never heard it before.
Knife party or Korea would be killer
Backed 110%
Might as well just have them listen to every Deftones song!!!
If I don't get to see Ryan react to Man in The Box by Alice in Chains I won't be able to die happy. Please make this happen!!
That's a good one. Them Bones is great too.
gnarkilleptic agreed
Anything off of Dirt or Jar of Flies would be great
Oh hell yeah.
and Would and We die young
I'm the opposite of hat guy, I think Maynard elevated that song from something mediocre to something epic. That chorus is out of this world.
I wouldn’t say, “mediocre”, but you’re right. How could Maynard nm NOT make any song better. These dude’s are good though and unbias with their opinions. I’m down with them. Even though I disagree with them here.
From a huge Deftones fan, I understand your points on this song.
But most of their songs will definitely grow on you over time, they seem to have that effect.
I recommend Sextape, Rocket Skates or Rosemary by Deftones!
Sextape, You've Seen the Butcher, and Rosemary are other reaction worthy Deftones jams.
Rosemary is one of my favorites by them, great song!
Yes. Youve seen the butcher.
like seriously, how could you not want to hear the deftone's take on the results of two lesbians who took mushrooms (and one of them got a bum trip)?
Ryan McAllister great choices. Entombed is another great song
@@justinl5056 Entombed is so underrated!
Love the honesty guys. For me personally this is one of my favorite vocal perfomances from Maynard. Get the chills everytime that chorus kicks in.
I would have to say the same about reflection or parabola he kills those songs vocally
Yes! Totally agree. Sober and noose too! Those songs always give me chills too. Passages is def a favorite though
ALICE IN CHAINS- WOULD
This is the one.
Stone with that fucking orgasming bass man
They already did it.
Sean Baker Alice in chains is super cool.....so much better out there for these boys...so much
And then they said if they already did it then link the vid right now
The thing with Deftones is that they are a bunch of musicians with different influences all pulling in their own directions throughout their songs. The drummer is basically a hip hop drummer, the guitarist out and out metal, the vocalist is into soundscape and vibe. It's literally a clash of genres and that is why Deftones are pretty much peerless with their sound. They started in the "nu-metal" movements (korn, limp bizkit, linkin park, papa roach) but they are the only ones left that are still relevant and are pushing musical boundaries. Much love to Deftones!
As a MASSIVE Tool & Deftones fan......I love your honest reaction & interpretation of this song.
I love this colab. Thanks for keeping it real.
This was the Matrix Reloaded of reactions. Appreciate the honesty though. I’d really like to hear reactions to other deftones songs that aren’t this style. Korea, Elite, rocket skates, swerve city etc.
Swerve City is the fucking jam
I'd love to see their reaction to Rats!Rats!Rats!
Korea....nice choices.
Agreed. They need to do the heavier side of deftones.
Elite and Rocket Skates are absolute bangers
Huh. Another surprising reaction. I thought y'all would like this more than you did. But that's one of the things I like about you guys. Even if a song is HEAVILY requested, you're not going to pander. You're gonna keep it real. Respect.
Now I'm not as confident y'all will dig these, but I still think they're worth a listen:
Infectious Grooves - "Violent and Funky" - It's funk-metal with a BADASS bassline (by Metallica's current bassist) and killer groove
Caligula's Horse - "Rust" - an accessible, if not outright catchy, prog-metal track that I think you guys might dig, especially the "heavy" part
Clutch - "The Mob Goes Wild" - there are dozens of Clutch songs I'd like you guys to react to, but I think this would be a decent introduction
Steve Martin I'm kind of surprised at the reaction. I love the contrast in the vocals .
I would LOVE them to do Clutch as well! Most introductions to them is either older stuff or Electric Worry though. :)
Awesome to see some love for Caligula's Horse! Great band!
Rust!
Amazing now “be quiet and drive” next deftones classic
They should definitely react to the album version of Be Quiet and Drive
React to Diamond Eyes from Deftones. One of their best! You're gonna love it!
PetarBlade Štrok the whole albums super good!!!
Prince and Royal are the best on the album
Please do, it’s greAt
Judith by a Perfect Circle!!!!!!!!!
The Grudge By tool!!!!!
They need to know about Maynard’s other bands
Down and by the river!!
John fedora yeah bro that’s Definitley a highlight from the last album
John fedor we gotta start then off with Judith though so start requesting it and get others to also so they can!
The Outsider by A Perfect Circle would be good too
TheNewSchoolGamer heeeck yeah
TESSERACT - Of Matter (Live at Sphere Studios). Only 4 years old, but this is instantly a classic!
Zigur Eru YES YES YES YES HELL YES
anything tesseract!!! though i think they should watch something with Dan, because i think his voice is just way better.
@@robertcuff5704 i believe they've done new tesseract songs.
Please!!! never listen to Tesseract.
@@BlackestFascist hater. They already have an liked them lol
I don't know why I don't see it suggested more often, but based on what you've liked in the Deftones you must try their song ROSEMARY. It should be right on your alley!
Andrius Mackevičius one of my favorites, I just feel like most people can’t make it to the very best part of the song :/
that song is an absolute masterpiece, and one of the most beautiful and epic songs in the Deftones catalogue.
Here here! Koi no Yokan is SO good... Rosemary is orgasmic.
YASSSSSS
Okay comment section, you've gotten it your way for the third time now. Now for next time can we PLEASE let them listen to a Deftones song that's NOT from White Pony?? I love that album too but jesus man, the Deftones have so many great albums and songs to pick from!
Agreed. I'd love to see them do something off Koi No Yokan or Gore.
I made a plea of my own, in the comments. Just a long-winded one for us, Deftones brethren.
Cordell Warren saturday night wrist too
Minerva or Diamond Eyes
rocket skates!
I appreciate that you guys are honest in your reactions, and I love that you guys got back to Deftones, but I feel like you need to vary what you listen to from key bands. A lot like Megadeth, where you listened to a lot from Rust In Peace (great album), you've only listened to Deftones songs from White Pony (also a great album). Check out some songs from different albums to get a better feel for who they are now or where they came from.
Cheers
I thought Maynards voice worked really well in this song, the way it crescendos in harmony with the music, and falls back down with the beat, it’s really well done
Sextape by Deftones guys! That is some pretzel music right there!
If you like Deftones and Fear and Loathing then I feel like we could be friends
Hahahah
Who wouldnt like some pretzel music?
I think its about damn time for some real pretzel love
Do something from their first album, Adrenaline! It is way more raw and aggressive than their later stuff, and more hip hop even. These are some good tracks from it: Bored, 7 Words, Lifter, Root, Engine No 9
Another of my fav songs of theirs is My Own Summer.
Also please do Rage Against the Machine - Know Your Enemy! You might find a certain parallel with this track.
Best album
I really think you guys would love the album Koi No Yokan from Deftones. It's heavy, it's pretzely, it's smooth...and not a bad song on it. For how much you guys like Deftones, an album reaction is needed! Diamond Eyes would also be a really good choice for a Deftones album reaction as well.
Yeah Koi No Yokan seems to be very dreamy like Saturday Night Wrist
i might be reaching and im clearly biased, but I think koi No Yokan is one of the greatest albums ever
I absolutely love Diamond Eyes and Saturday Night Wrist. Something like "Sextape" or "Beware" would be playlist for both of them easily, I think.
@@plectrumura man, Sextape is pure sex as the name implies, it's crazy smooth and sensual.
Also Drive off of Saturday Night Wrist although it's a cover
Self titled is probably my favorite Deftones album. But I love them all
To Ryan's point about maybe going crazy seeing this live, I've seen Deftones play this song live a few times, and Chino sings all of the parts on his own. And while I really like what Maynard brings to this song, seeing (and hearing) Chino do those parts live is phenomenal. He has so much passion, fire, and intensity in his voice when doing this song live, and also to both of your points, I think it flows a little better having the one voice all the way through, it's great!
Maynard is what seals the deal baby!! This is one of my all-time favorite songs. It just gives me the best feeling. I love the Deftones and I absolutely love Maynard and Tool and to me this is almost too good!!😳 I feel like Maynard is absolutely necessary to the song. Hearing his voice is a religious experience
A Perfect Circle - 3 Libras
Clint Westwood YAAAASSSS! The whole Mer de Noms album is FIRE!
And we need more 'Tool' too.
Clint Westwood agreed! As well as Chino’s band, (Crosses) ✝️✝️✝️. If you haven’t listen to em... LOOK.IT.UUUUP!!!!
Orestes and 3 Libras!!
Yassss
Cherry Waves - Deftones
If you want seductive...
Gage23 or “You’ve seen the butcher”
Yessss
When that bass kicks in at 1:40... My god. If they do it, they need a sub...
Deftones are one of my all time favorite bands. This song will grow on you for sure. Its kind of a “one off” in terms of Deftones songs.
I highly recommend Prince, Beauty School, Diamond Eyes, Around The Fur, or MX as interesting tracks to review.
Hope you guys revisit them!
Kabz root, sextape, anniversary, rx Queen
Puscifer - Remedy (Maynard's other band)
If you want a sexy song, then Beauty School, like daaamn man, this song
Sextape I lose my mind lol
YES - ROUNDABOUT!!! YES - ROUNDABOUT!!! YES - ROUNDABOUT!!! YES - ROUNDABOUT!!! YES - ROUNDABOUT!!! YES - ROUNDABOUT!!!
Timothy Brice hell yeah!!!
They won't like Jon Anderson's voice but the progressions will be "fire".
I want to see them scratch their heads at the line "mountains come out of the sky and they stand there..." Lol!
Closer to the edge
Sextape, Be quite and drive, and Entombed are a most! Great video guys. I really enjoy your reactions to the Deaftones..
For further pretzel Deftones:
-Almost anything off Diamond Eyes minus Royal or CMND/CTRL
-Rosemary
-Hearts/Wires
- Phantom Bride
For the OTHER Deftones that hasn't been covered yet:
-My Own Summer
-Be Quiet and Drive
-Hole In The Earth
Pretzel Deftones:
Cherry Waves
Riviere
Lucky You
RX Queen
Entombed
You've Seen The Butcher
Sextape
Minerva
Deathblow
Be Quiet and Drive
What the crap is "pretzel Deftones" ?
@@projectleescape2885 .......*how* did you get here and not watch the video?
@@justinofclark oh, was it something they said? I must have missed it. The query still stands, thanks for your helpful response.
Hell yea! you did my request. thanks so much. Love this song, so many memories rapped up in this song.
Best cover of all time: Deftones covering Sade’s No Ordinary Love
truth
The Mars Volta
- Day of the Baphomets
- Roulette Dares
- Goliath
- In Absentia
At The Drive-In
- One Armed Scissor
- Invalid Litter Dept.
- Arcarsenal
- Metronome Arthritis
The Mars Volta - Take The Veil Cerpin Taxt
Sparta
- Air
- Cut your Ribbon
One choice for each band there
Roulette dares
(predictable i know) one armed scissor
The Mars Volta - L'Via L'Viaquez
Gotta see them react to Televators too.
I don't know if you did it yet but Maynard's other band A Perfect Circle - Pet
Heard it for the first time recently OMG!
Chino Moreno's other band Crosses- Bitches Brew
trinity theres only room for one of us
Pet is such a great and twisted song. The thing about Maynard’s lyrics are they are such a subtle way to illustrate how messed up the human mind can get without it being in your face. Most Serial Killers are able to hide how they really are. I think Pet is a great example of this.
My favorite APC song.
Yo, you finally did it, this is one we've all been waiting for. Hell yeah.
Please react to the song The Regulator by the band Clutch.
Great Clutch song. I think something off of blast tyrant would be a good start. Mob goes wild or cypress grove.
The Regulator is awesome. Clutch is so good too.
Judith-A Perfect Circle
Stinkfist- Tool
The Humbling River- Puscifer
These are all great songs by Maynard's different bands!!
Joey Perrine oh i can rock Humbling River alllll day long. No matter my mood. And Green Valley also.
Still waiting for Tool's "The Grudge" In my opinion their masterwork if I had to just pick 1 song! On the Deftones side "Cherry waves". Peace out Bros
Agreed....most underrated Tool song ever
Puscifer - "Potions". Trent Reznor/Maynard James Keenan collaboration. Best of both worlds.
Potions is such a sweet fuckin song. One of Puscifers best songs
I'd be very curious to hear your reaction to earlier Deftones, specifically the choice cuts from 'Adrenaline': "Bored", "7 Words", ... others that escape me. A far grittier sound than White Pony was - much more reminiscent of the emotive hardcore sound they most-emulate. White Pony was beautiful. "Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away)" would also pique your interest, from 'Around the Fur'.
Cheers.
Agreed!!!! Lifter
Lotion is probably my fav off Adrenaline
My last serenade- killswitch engage
not even saying a word about the video, just pushing your own wants.
It’s just a suggestion, don’t take it to heart .. I’ve been subbed for quite awhile and I love and support these guys all the way , Sorry if I offended you .
don't you use that tone with me, boy
With all due respect SIR I’m 23 , so I’m far from my childhood years , although I’d love to turn back time and go back to those days
if only i could tuuurn back tiiime
You guys really need to check out either The Grudge or Vicarious by Tool. Both are in 5/4 which will be a unique experience for you guys.
Man, you guys are killing me how you chop the song up so much.. right on the best parts, and that’s when we wanna see your reaction the most.
Again, you would enjoy You’ve Seen The Butcher and/or Tempest by this band.
pretty much anything form koi no yokan is gold
Both songs are gold. I love Tempest.
It's funny how you interpret this song and has actually changed the way I look at it as I never really thought of it about sex. When I listen to this song it brings me back to a younger time in my life, driving around in the middle of the night during the dog days of summer. The windows are down and the air is thick. It reminds of driving through the city at 3am as a teenager and being curious to see a new environment for the first time. This song brings me to that teenage angst and cruising a street or going to the beach in the middle of the night. It also speaks to me on an escape and running from something with all of those emotions surrounding that. I love this song, and I am not a large Deftones fan. (White Pony is the only album I enjoy of theirs) I give you credit on finding the Maynard James Keenan areas of song not fitting in. I agree, but I think that breakdown and change of tempo is what makes the song. Close your eyes and picture street lights and stop lights blazing by you at 2am... Or listen to the song while you are driving at night through Vegas.. I think you will be pleasantly surprised at how well the song works in a different environment
Hey George, this one will grow on you. It might help not pausing it during the best part when Maynard kicks in. Interrupts the flow
That was the worst stop ever, it broke the vibe and if you do not know the song it kills it, imagine if you were reviewing "Beat It" by Micheal Jackson and you pause the song right before the Eddie Van Halen solo then restart it after a few minute discussion, would totally ruin the song.
@@shawnlovering1841 yeah it would be like pausing Metallica Orion right when the slow bass line kicks in
A Perfect Circle - TalkTalk
Tool - Vicarious
Volbeat - Still Counting
Puscifer - Telling Ghosts
Blind Guardian - Imaginations From The Other Side
I'll repost this until the cows come home if i gotta :v.
I'd rather see Puscifer - Humbling River
Down and by the river!!
@@SilverKeyMan Humbling River is an incredible song
Incubus - Warning, Are You In?, or Echoes. Or Deftones - Xerces, Street Scarp, Pink Maggit, Mein, or the music video to their song Sextape.
Zombitious Echoes is phenomenal. Thanks for reminding me about that song
How about Maynard's other projects? May I recommend
"A Perfect Circle - The Outsider" ?
Also for Tool, you gotta react to "Jambi", imo. And "Lateralus" is THE Tool track, but it's deep and has some more atmospheric parts. Jambi is much more of a bangin' track.
K JAM they did lateralus already
I'd like to see them react to "Reflection" or "Hooker with a Penis"
I'd like to see them react to 3 libras from APC
The Outsider would be soooo great.
A Perfect Circle would be great! I don't think they have done "Parabol/Parabola" yet, and also Jambi ... please :)
Stevie Ray Vaughn - Voodoo Child (LIVE)
Vein - Doomtech
Deftones liked this band enough to have them play at their personal fest (along with Future and Mike Shinoda from Linkin Park), I think you guys should check them out. A great up and coming band.
Yes! Mike Portnoy is also a fan of Vein. I really hope Ryan and George get to these guys soon.
Alongside Vein I’d love to see them do some Turnstile and Code Orange as well, all making big waves at the moment
Jono Roberts I’ve been requesting Better Way by Turnstile for awhile
And I've been requesting Code Orange for a while
Yeah I gave up requesting CO, doubt we’ll see them do any hardcore for a while, people too busy plastering the same bands over and over
This was my FAVORITE song as a like...14? 15? year old, sitting in my room jamming to rock music. I LOVEEEED this song so much
Huge fan of your guys approach to reviews, seriously addicting channel! 🤙
Man, y’all got this one wrong! This song is FIRE! Always has been and always will be!
I remember liking this song but not loving it, because it was very different than what I had heard of most of the album. But the song has grown to be one of my favorites
Eh.
Agree! Song is sexy as hell! One of my favs
Maynard did something magical in this song, something different, his voice just lifted this song to another level.
Respect always for keeping it real! It's been a while since I've heard this one, but there have been many a night driving in the car (probably a little too fast) where I've belted this one out.
It probably wouldn't make my top 10 deftones songs tho. You should check out some of their more recent tunes like Rosemary, Sextape, or Hearts/Wires.
Rock on LiV!
Baroness - Take My Bones Away
I like "Take My Bones Away", but I usually end up skipping it because I LOVE the track right after it - "March to the Sea". :)
It's definitely a toss up! Really I'd be happy with any Baroness song
I'd be curious to see what they think of "Teeth of a Cogwheel". The drumming on that is so insane, I'm convinced it has to be overdubbed. Especially since their drummer can lay down a nice groove, but he doesn't come close to doing anything like that on any other songs.
Steve Martin oh yeah that definitely just sounds like some additional percussion over top of the drumming. Still, great drummer!
My Curse - Killswitch Engage
They don't like his voice for some reason and mocked his clean singing
Thanks for doing this song. Such a great song. Congrats on almost 600k, fellas. Damn.
Shocked by the reaction. They vibe so well together. This is one the best songs of all time
This song is phenomenal
No doubt 👍

I left one comment with Deftones recommendations, another interesting one would be “Ever (Foreign Flag)” by Team Sleep.
It’s like the pretty/mellow side of Deftones, but with a chaotic/technical drummer. It’s a side project band of Chino’s
You guys should try listening to static x and do a video?
Kate Bush - Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)
snausagesaregood i like placebos version of that
Chromatic shave a great cover too
Deftones - Be Quiet And Drive
Been watching you videos for a week or so now and I appreciate how open minded you guys are to different genres. Truly refreshing.
Loved your interpretation, loved the honesty, but still love this song.... Either way, thumbs up for the listen. Keep on going love you guys.
Radiohead - Paranoid Android Please??

This
Yeah! The song itself is hard to do due to copyright enforcement. The live version is available but that’s just not right. Not the same.
You guys need to check out Darkness Within by Machine Head! The song is an awesome transition from start to finish and is one of my favourite songs!
YESSSSS or IMPERIUM
Nah
Machine fucking head!!!
The lyrics to that song are so powerful
They really didn't dig the theme of the lyrics on Halo lol, hopefully this one changes their opinion
I'm glad you guys finally got to this song! Also I think it's time to react to Vein, coincidentally they just got added to a festival that Deftones put together themselves.
ugh... The dynamic vocals is exactly what makes this song so good!
You guys are so great! You love and describe music like I do and feel! Please never stop!!!
My bad as I did an awful job of narrowing down, but here’s where I would continue!
Something pretty and dynamic sounding: Rosemary, Sextape, Rivière, Cherry Waves for something a little different
Straightforward and heavy: When Girls Telephone Boys, Bloody Cape, Royal, Elite, RatsRatsRats
Chill: Anniversary of an Uninteresting event, Teenager, Xerces, What Happened To You?, Lucky you for something a little different
A banger: Be Quiet and Drive, Entombed, Knife Prty, Gauze, Kimdracula, The Boy’s Republic, My Own Summer, RX Queen, Bored, Diamond Eyes
Thanks for the Deftones love. Appreciate the honesty. You've covered their 3 most popular songs and I highly recommend Be Quiet and Drive/Sextape next.
Reece Jeffries shut up and drive is way more popular than this so is 7 words
One of my favourite songs. Glad you enjoyed
Bummed you didn't like it more but awesome to see you do this finally. Watching these videos is like showing a friend a song for the first time. Keep it up.

Thank you for doing this and reading comments! 👊🙂
Love the videos guys! I think it’s great how much care you give to each song and thoroughly scrutinize them. I like that you guys are open to any style and give every song a fair chance. I have a very eclectic musical appetite and I love analyzing music by the song. Keep it up!
