Not exactly in the same boat as you in terms of reccomending (mostly because I don't have any friends to reccomend stuff to haha), but I'm in so many dead or dying fandoms it hurts. There are so little fics that are any good, and those few ones were either discontinued or are one-shots. Being in active fandoms helps dull the pain though. :')

The Owl House fandom is the exact opposite of the filler problem with season 2B.
Too much is happening, too much trauma on the characters, everyone is scared, and we just want our sweet wholesome fun times back.

I think people in fandom should try their ideas, be it writting, drawing, cosplaying or something entirely diffrent. Everyone started somewhere and as long as you're happy or having fun with it, then there's no shame in doing it.
I’ve finally figured out what kind of fan I am. I am a fan who learns through osmosis, *THEN* watches the episodes afterwards, and watches any more that come out after the assassination on the day it releases 🤣

Reminds me of the Sailor Moon Crystal series hiatus. Seasons 1-3 came out pretty quickly within each other and then we had to wait about 5 years (2016-2021) for the two-part movie to come out covering the 4th arc. Thankfully there won't be another hiatus anywhere near that long since a movie covering the 5th/final arc is coming out next year

I’m both “too old” for tangled and I have no one to fangirl with its always hard in these trying times
FIGHT ME I WILL FOREVER DEFEND FILLER ARCS. You get more of the characters, you get to see the characters in new and/or different situations, it's like a fanfic but you didn't have to write it, the show gave it to you on a silver platter! They can also be a fun way to explore this one thing in the worldbuilding in interesting ways without having to lose anything about the actual plot. And on a meta level if it's an anime based on something, it gives the anime more buffer time for the manga to continue the story without having to give us multiple month or year long hiatuses that frustrate people so much.
Literally the only bad thing I can say about filler arcs is that they could be given a warning or announcement or something, so that people won't tune into the show and suddenly be confused about "But, we were just in the middle of this big plot relevant scene...? Tension = gone, cool."

The worst thing about being in a fandom is when you are the type of person that desperately wants to avoid telling spoilers to someone you did get into watching the show, no matter how angsty it gets for you to suffer through the newer episodes.
Trying to be discreet was my entire junior high and high school life when I got into anime. What's sad is that I probably didn't need to be that discreet with some people, and my family eventually got mad at me for always pulling down the window when they walked into the computer room. "No I'm not looking at p**n, I'm looking at [very ashamed voice]... Pokemon."
When my students ask me who my favorite character in something I only know casually is, I always say "Oh that's such a hard question, I like everyone!" Usually works.

I keep track of my favorite content's publishing date just to laugh at how absurdly old some are, and how unlikely it is they have living fandoms. Ancient Greece (not Percy Jackson) and King Arthur (not Merlin the show) aside because they're nebulous and span centuries of development, my record holders are 1965, 1934, and 1895. And their fandoms are practically dead, yaaaaay 🥲
