- Part Two of the Okanagan Rail Trail, we cycle 11 KM (7 Miles) from Oyama BC along the west side of Kalamalaka Lake shoreline following the most spectacular section of this world class rail trail. Despite a broken bike chain at our turning around point, we had an amazing day exploring this beautiful part of Kalamalka Lake. This section of the rail trail is just north of Kelowna BC and just south of Vernon, BC.

Rail History
The CN Rail line was constructed in 1925 to bring the produce and lumber of the Okanagan Valley to markets across the country. The line served the communities of Campbell Creek, Kamloops, Vernon, Coldstream, Lake Country, Okanagan Indian Band and Kelowna.
Challenged with high costs and low revenues, in September 2013 CN Rail began the formal process of discontinuing the rail line running from Lumby Junction in Coldstream to Kelowna. In 2016, a two- year community fundraising campaign along with several grants raised the $7.8 million that was needed to develop the trail.

Beautiful lake! Love the drone views and amazing rail trail. The bloopers at the end are always so cute to watch, great video!
This is a place that I never knew I needed to visit. What is that bush/tree with the red leaves? Its gorgeous.
These plants are called Sumac and native to our Okanagan climate. The leaves are usually bright green during May to August then turning bright red in late September. They are beautiful and make for great photography! Thank you for watching this one! T&S

Swimming? Beautiful water. Anyplace to take a dip?
Yes, there are many places to swim along the rail trail accessing Kalamalka Lake between Oyama and Vernon. There's Kekuli Bay Park a provincial campground and boat launch that the rail trail passes through, bcparks.ca/kekuli-bay-park/ . If not on the rail trail, another great beach is located at the north east arm of Kalamalka Lake called Cosens Bay. Great for hiking www.google.com/maps/place/Cosens+Bay+Beach/@50.1960251,-119.2617469,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m6!3m5!1s0x537dddc05b35f09d:0xfff42ed8e6b02216!8m2!3d50.1960251!4d-119.2617469!16s%2Fg%2F11j94dll8_?hl=en&entry=ttu Enjoy and thanks for watching our video!
