This was the F59PH in a nutshell. Who the hell cares about clean air, a retrofit with BATS would have made them Tier 4 compliant anyways, not to mention at a fraction of the cost of the F125's. Oh and don't forget that the constant breakdown of the Spirit engines is creating a morbidly obese repair bill.
2 are still in service and I think the rest are being converted to battery power so they might return but the 2 are used on MOW trains, revenue service and Yard switchers.
*Any efforts to SAVE a few of these F59PH? Great sounding locomotives - **4:55** ,**11:03** So many F7s, F9s, etc. still around. There must be some effort to spare a few of these?*
My grandfather took me for a ride back in 1995 first year of San Bernardino Line rode the old bi level cars and had The orginal F49PH Union Pacific model pulling. They started off using retired Union Pacific locomotives repainted in Metrolink colors
The streamlined F49PH2 were they first specifically Metrolink locomotives. Then the Japanese cab cars now the Japanese 900s. The Silver cab cars were ruled unsafe during a collision. So they ordered the 900s
the only reason I loved f59ns it’s beacuse of their horns. RIP f59ns. Im glad 868 and 856 are working on the San Bernardino line!
These locomotives may be gone, but they will always be part of metrolink’s history
Thanks for watching!
