You all are incorrectly identifying the horn lol, it's a raised letter K5LA, the same horn used on some P42s, the majority of the COASTER cab cars, most chargers and the SD70ACE-T4.
Nice! I have to say it was really cool to see CDTX 6962 on point of Amtrak 712 and then the Siemens Venture Cabcar test train 868 with CDTX 9302 on point.
Great to see these things up and testing if it weren’t for the SC-44s having a stroke in the heat and getting temporarily banned of the Bakersfield sub that would’ve been Amtrak California’s first fully Siemens set
I wonder if the derate on the ALC-42 will help with the heat issues. I know Brightline has no issues in the Florida heat, but theirs are de-rated to 4000hp. Also funny that the Chargers overheat in hot weather, but also overheat in snow when the radiators get clogged up with snow.

Glad that the cab car finally comes around, but what bothers me is that they never streamlined it all. Hopefully they’ll do that in the end of testing.
That’s because the cab car is a newer product, it doesn’t actually have anything to do with being similar to the SC-44 or ALC-42. For example, some of the newer Coaster SC-44s have ditch lights that flash like an ALC-42.
They apparently expect less carnage on that route. The extended nose cones on Brightline are more to make crash damage easier to repair than for aerodynamics, even though they're the only Chargers actually operating at 125mph.

There needs to be some actual flow from the blue line running through the windows to the cab. The straight vertical line from the cab to the coach just looks awful IMO. Don't even get me started on the way those ditch lights flash.
They're not being retired. Caltrans is just shifting them to the Capitol Corridor. The Comets are being retired, but they are very old and pretty atrocious.
As Toha said above they won’t be retired just moved to the Capital Corridor and Iv been hearing that the Alstom built California Cars are gonna be moved to the Surfliner in order for them to handle the 6 Car sets and should allow Amtrak to get their Superliners back
If the Talgos taught us anything, it's that over-engineered, semi-articulated cars with automatic doors with little steps that come out aren't always a great idea. Just more shit to break and cause delays.
Why is aerodynamic of new cab car is not so good? This is a new locomotive! We live in 21st century but aerodynamic is not acceptable! At least Brightline cab car is much better and made by the same company

That’s because the cab car is a newer product, it doesn’t actually have anything to do with being similar to the SC-44 or ALC-42. For example, some of the newer Coaster SC-44s have ditch lights that flash like an ALC-42.
