Finally some melee build, without Multistrike. After having great time with your Ice Crash Zerk and Lacerate max block glad, this gonna be next for sure.
Yeah, there are basically two ways you can go with this: MS + lots of attack speed and no warcries (you'd waste your exerted stacks in less than a second) or big bonks with exerted attacks. There's definitely no wrong or right way, just personal preference 😁
Would love to see a chieftain cyclone build! Your builds are amazing thank you so much for the content this build has taught me loads and brought me into end game for the first time in a league haha
Just hit Level 80 today and I am having a blast, though the new league is a little cluttery at times and I can't tell if my ground slam is hitting sometimes with all the icons in the way...

Have played this build up to maps so far in SSF. Haven't died once (a miracle for me) and the smash that is Vaal Ground Slam is so satisfying. One small critique in the passive tree is that you used an extra travel node to get to the Dynamo notable. If you path from the left, it's a spare passive point. Awesome build loving it!
There is one unallocated strength travel node just up and left of Dynamo (by the jewel socket) that, if allocated, allows you to unallocate two strength nodes just below the life wheel. Free point.

Hey Navendis. First of all, great guide(s): both this one and the Elemental Hit raider are well-made, full of info, and I'm loving the thoughts and care put into them (like the PoB notes and the recommended trade-links). I've (accidentally) 6-linked an 86 Eventuality Rod, and wondered if you had advice on how to craft it for the Ground Slam build: Essence, Harvest, Fossils or alt spamming? What stats would be desirable? Thanks a lot for your work, you've earned yourself a subscriber and avid follower of your (future) content!
Spend the last few days leveling this build and really gotta say - it's a ton of fun! Never really had damage like that before, love it, Gotta admit though that after getting to red maps I kinda start to struggle, damage ain't an issue but I seem to get one shot incredibly often. During ultimatums, boss fights, rituals, even during regular mapping. Any advice on how to improve survivability or does it naturally get better after the next few levels? I'm currently Level 85

as beginer to this game i gota say this is best build guide and thumbs up for all poe trade links im doing much better than my cracling lance elementalist witch dying less and killing more :D
Dude, Finally someone says it how it is. I can't stand this league mechanic Rn i thought it was just me. It was a good concept but its just not fun to kill the monsters because you have to run in circles to stay alive and majority of the time i get a Juiced soul eater and lose my progress and don't even mention the visual clutter.
I have 2 questions. First, I have 4 slots in my weapon and I have socketed Inf. Cry, CoC and Combustion support - should I go for Assassin's mark or Wave of Conviction? What do you think about Atziri's Promise flask for this build?
Hello everyone. I'm posting just in case some people might want to play this build in 3.15. I league started with it, and it was really smooth ! White maps are easy af, yellow becomes more tricky without invest, red needs serious work on your equipment to be enjoyable. They are doable but you'll nedd to be extra focus. Overall a very good league starter that I am sure can carry you to endgame with invest.
It takes a good amount of patience in the very late game, once I got to maps I was oneshotting some of the Atlas bosses, but the maven/shaper and the other harder bosses are nuts. Also, I oneshotted myself on Atziri twice before I realized my ground slam was way too wide for that arena lol
16:10 Combustion "is a support gem that grants supported skills more fire damage and chance to ignite the enemy" How does Combustion hit? I thought it was just a damage increase/ignite for the supported skill, so infernal cry? Does combustion itself hit too and are there other skills like this? This is the first time I've ever heard of this
Combustion doesn't ignite or hit, it's a support gem so it passes those "buffs" to supported active skills. It supports the Combust trigger skill (which is "housed" inside Infernal Cry and triggered by Ground Slam) as well as Wave of Conviction.
Hello! Like your videos. Currently slamming trough content with this build. At the passive tree section the screenshot is missing the 4th strength node at point #23 (2nd rapid expansion). Just wanted to let you know.
In your main skill link. Can we use multistrike instead of melee physical? I notice when I use multistrike. The war cry only be used when I used VGS. Normal GS does not reduce the exert attack. So the exert attack is valid only when we use it? Or when it remain charges?
Great guide as usual! Is there any benefit to going with ground slam versus tectonic slam (or the other way around)? Looking to try a marauder build and am wondering which would be the better to scale throughout this league to deal with things like T16/inscribed ultimatums. Thank you for the work you continue to put in to this game for the community!
They play somewhat similar, but TS doesn't have a Vaal counterpart so Ground Slam kinda pulls ahead because of that. That and the extra damage it deals the closer you are to your target. TS does have a longer range, almost akin to spells 😁
Another question: I feel ike I run out of mana constantly now and decided to use a mana flask instead. Ofc that is a huge dps loss. Has anyone played around by taking some other passive skill tree points where that would not be needed?
One more thing I forgot to mention about this build, with Dynamo and spamming Immortal Call by replacing it with mouse 1 like Navandis suggets, you restore 10% of your maximum mana almost instantly.
I feel like most people ignore the Dynamo part or my advice throughout the guide on how to deal with mana. Re-watch the guide (fully) and use those tips 👍
Idk what i did wrong i struggle in low tier red maps, my boss dps sucks and sometimes i just get one shoted with and without abyssus, maybe it's just the league maybe i missed something, but with the state of the game and my build sucking i will just quit expedition for now.
I would literally never do that and there's really no reason to - you will not gain more damage or better survivability and it won't be cheaper either. If you're absolutely set on gimping your character just for the lulz, then open the passive tree and search for "staff" and "staves" and replace them with passives that say "axe" or "mace" 👍
@@NavandisGaming Thanks! really love your content I went with the staff anyway lol what do you think is better ground slam or glacial hammer berserker? Thanks again! :)
Is rolling "socketed gems are supported by level # fortify" on the weapon worth it after 3.15 update? If so, what should i socket instead of fortify support?
That would definitely be a good damage bonus, just to get Fortify buff out of the way; you'd replace the gem with Fire Penetration in that case or Ruthless
The league is long and a good tanky chunky boi will definitely come in handy vs ultimatums. Those are really nasty piece of content in the later stages, I'd say close to fully delirious maps. I was REALLY happy with this as my league starter, once I got a few good pieces of gear I never failed Ultimatums with it since.
I run his ice crash zerk 95 lvl farming everything I have all gear BIS except the staff i use hedgemonys cause the rares are like 15 ex Best build i played so far and the one i enjoyed the most Wtfpwn freeze with autoattack from hell !! Leap slam becomes teleport with blitz ascendacy NAVANDIS FTW !! IN NAVANDIS WE TRUST ! :-)
Throughout the entire gems section there's a pretty big banner thing that explains what XX/YY means - gem level/gem quality. Some gems don't benefit from quality so there's no reason to increase it
Hey very new player here... is there much difference between this and tectonic slam? Is it superior to tectonic? Thanks for your detailed guides! Alot of other guides out there assume that you know sooo much about the game already that you almost need a guide for those guides - yours are very easy to follow, atleast in comparison ;P this game is very overwhelming
They play somewhat similar, but TS doesn't have a Vaal counterpart so Ground Slam kinda pulls ahead because of that. That and the extra damage it deals the closer you are to your target. Plus the guaranteed stun of the VGS can be an absolute clutch in certain fights when timed right. So it definitely CAN deal more damage, but it also requires a bit more involved gameplay. And trust me, once you get the sort of "tempo" with the warcries, you'll notice huge differences in damage output 👍
Smite is still much better for the first few acts because the base Ground Slam (without Rapid Expansion jewels) has a pretty small AOE and is not that fast early on. And you won't be able to spam Vaal Ground Slam early

I am playing this build in 3.15. but I am confused about a thing: I have Intimidating cry and ancestral cry. when I press both intimidating has 3 uses but ancestral always stays at 9 ? so do i only exert 3 hit or do this 9 also count ? (they are not counting down when I am hitting)
Hey there, Ancestral Cry's warcry attack function doesn't work with Ground Slam as it is not a strike attack. You can swap to Seismic Cry if you're using Ground Slam. Ancestral Cry does give a massive armor buff though if you're not tanky enough.
About to start a Melee champ for the first time (3rd season of PoE. I've done summoners the entire time up till now,) Ice Crash, or this for melee newbie?
This is much more tanky and definitely more suitable for a melee beginner. Will take some practice to squeeze out everything out of it (the warcry "dance" and lining up of buffs for maximum effect) but even just winging it will still have you farming red maps easily 👍
@@NavandisGaming Yeah, I need the tanky. :D Thanks! Starting it tonight. I got your skelemage build up to as far as I know what I'm doing. I have so much to learn once I get to maps. I don't know what I'm doing 90% of the time yet.
Awakened gems and a better weapon, unless you're running with a 900-1000 DPS staff, I'd say you're nowhere near close to "finishing" the build. Cluster jewels are useless for this build, there are plenty far better passives on the tree, so unless you just want to spend a few EX to get the exact same thing you would with regular passives, just focus on other gear.
That will depend on your crit chance and how often you use Infernal Cry to exert Ground Slam so it can trigger the whole thing. So, you're the only one that can answer that question 👍
@@NavandisGaming seems there is a big jump in crit chance between level 60 and 70. Atm my chance in combat is 50% so it's firing off a lot. Thanks for responding.
Idk about lvl 39 but this build is not end game capable. Damage is low, no move speed and over qol, not that tanky either. You will be able to do red maps with some investment but dps sucks for conquerors etc. I've started league with this build as a noob, and suffered enough before switching to ele hit raider
Also expedition mobs are pain in the ass for this build as they are quite tanky (while this build struggles with dps) and often deadly with some buffs for pure melee which can't kill them at range
so wait it wasn't that my builds were shit, it was that the league mechanic is broken? i've rerolled so many builds looking for something that can survive random insta death with no indication of what killed me ffs GGG, i have been frustrated since league start because of this
Trust me we all get fu**ed by Ultimatum. One wave is easy peasy but the next wave can absolutely demolish you. It's not your fault it's just absurdly overtuned :D
I would say, without exaggerating, the amount of damage some waves can deal is close to 100% delirious maps and that shouldn't be the case for a league mechanic. And compounding this problem is that there's a really wide variation between waves or between two ultimatums, instead of a smoother progression. So yeah, really don't beat yourself up, it's something pretty much everyone has been struggling with. The good news is, this build was actually capable of mitigating most of that and I've cleared pretty much all ultimatums I've encountered after I got a bit of practice 👍
If you go Zerk you generally go with high attack speed -> can't realistically use warcries because you'll use up your exerted attacks too fast -> completely different build. There's no right or wrong, just different approaches to playing the same skill. This is simply the ascendancy class I preferred to build around. PS: the exact same question could be: why Berserker and not Chieftain? Or Slayer? Or Raider? You can literally play every skill with any ascendancy if you build around its bonuses
I have 931 mana and I cant seem to use the war banner, I can run blood/sand, flesh/stone and pride together. Is that a bug or? when I did the math 10% out of 921 mana is 93.1 mana, is that what I need? because with three abilities reserved I have 46 mana spared.
Bonus fire damage on your staff seems ineffective. I'd expect that by the time your physical damage has been converted to fire damage all the buffs have been applied. So lets say the staff does 100 damage, with all increases that's increased to 2000, then it's converted to fire damage. So you do 2000 fire damage, then 20 fire damage is added. If that had been physical damage instead it would be far more effective. Then you'd do 120 damage, increased to 2400 damage and converted to 2400 fire damage. So The effective added damage is 20 times more effective. How am I wrong?
So what part of _"If the staff has some flat fire damage on it, that will help as well, but don't go out of your way for mods like that"_ was not clear? It's a secondary mod that's better than nothing on a basic tier staff. If you can get only the very best mods on your weapon, then that's not a basic tier item anymore but a BiS-tier one, which is why I don't mention flat fire damage there.
Because most of the time you'll use your life flask when you're in deep shit, so 1 flask usage won't be enough and you'll need several back-to-back. That means the "over time" part of a Bubbling flask is wasted. If you only take like 1-2k damage out of 6k then there's no reason to use a flask, your life regen will suffice or a quick Enduring Cry. But feel free to use whatever you prefer, there's no right or wrong here as personal playstyle will come into play as well
@@NavandisGaming dont touch ST...idk what they are doing...they doubled the number of projectiles but still enemy can be hit only once every 0.3sec...sometimes ggg man...i'm speechless
I love your builds but this one feels like a fail. I'm lvl 80, followed the PoB exactly, 5.5k life, maxed ele resists, decent gear and even spent an Ex on a 600+ pdps judgement staff. Watching stuff explode is great but I'm dying constantly, even with flasks. Don't feel tanky at all. Any advice?
The best advice I can give is the guide itself - it's over half an hour of zero fluff, pure useful information advice and footage you can use to observe efficient gameplay. If myself and the vast majority of other players using the build never had any issues with survivability, I think it's a very bold thing to claim the build is a failure rather than trying to understand what you, yourself, might be doing wrong. There are also literally hundreds of things you could be doing wrong, from not using the various skills when you should (like Enduring Cry), not using your flasks right, improper positioning, not understanding what mobs' or boss abilities can 1-shot you or what combination of map mods are really dangerous, trying to face tank ultimatum encounters, improper gearing, running content way above your current character's power, standing in degen areas, not removing bleeds or ailments, not using Dash defensively or standing still for longer than you should, etc. etc. I can't really point out to anything in particular since I'm not watching you play every day. My only other advice is to try to shift your mindset from "I'm doing everything right, the build is wrong" to actively understanding how you can improve your gameplay. This is not a written guide, you can see with your own two eyes how tanky my char is in the video footage and basic logic says the same build can't be both squishy and tanky at the same time.
Oh I didn't mean to offend. Chose my words poorly. I watched the vid like 3 times but I'll watch it again and catch where I'm tripping over myself. Your Skelemage build is treating me very well so maybe I got too used to a completely different play style. Thanks Navandis.
Were you using Smite + recommended skills in the PoB until Act 6? I didn't start using Ground Slam until a Vaal dropped and I had a staff + rapid expansion jewel.

Combustion doesn't ignite or hit, it's a support gem so it passes those "buffs" to supported active skills. It supports the Combust trigger skill (which is "housed" inside Infernal Cry and triggered by Ground Slam) as well as Wave of Conviction.
@@NavandisGaming Oh right so it's as I initially thought. I misunderstood and thought it was combustion itself doing things. Thanks for the reply :)
I am still working on your ice crash zerker....how does this compare?
Its looks similar to your Tectonic Slam Cheeftain but on steroids i had a lot of fun with TSC fev ligues ago so i will have to give this one a go
Yeah, VGS got some really huge buffs this league so it definitely pulled ahead!
You can interchange this with tectonic slam since both are similar damage types, right? Thanks!
Or when it remain charges?
good guide as usual any plans to update your phantasom specter build with this new ish format?
29:56 chemist or experimenters?
Is there an update on this build for 3.16, I liked it a lot in 3.14/3.15. Thanks
Hey Navandis, any chance you can do a totem build?
good day sir, any chance you have this build updated for 3.17 ?
Can you do an autobomber ignite herald of thunder build pleaseeeee
is it better then the tidebreaker g slam build ? thanks for answer sir !
So, as a SSF how can i get a missing 10 Phys to Fire? 20+20(from skilltree) 50 (from ascend)
you got any scion build recommendations i really love that character lol
Love your builds in general, but how on earth this is 5/5 score on mapping? By looking at the gameplay would say at best its a 3ish.
Another question: I feel ike I run out of mana constantly now and decided to use a mana flask instead. Ofc that is a huge dps loss. Has anyone played around by taking some other passive skill tree points where that would not be needed?
I haven't run into mana issues and I am currently at level 86, but I am using a mana regen ring until I can get the circle of anguish ring.
New patch has cost multipliers on many of the support gems lowered by about 10% each, hopefully should help on some mana costs.
@Navandis Gaming can you Duelist Smite Build
Idk what i did wrong i struggle in low tier red maps, my boss dps sucks and sometimes i just get one shoted with and without abyssus, maybe it's just the league maybe i missed something, but with the state of the game and my build sucking i will just quit expedition for now.
What would you adjust to the skill tree if I were to use Axe or Hammers instead of staves?
@@NavandisGaming I see thanks, going to try using these in endgame mapping. Cheers!
Of course you release this the day after I start your ice crash berzerker :( guess I'll just have to do both
The league is long and a good tanky chunky boi will definitely come in handy vs ultimatums. Those are really nasty piece of content in the later stages, I'd say close to fully delirious maps. I was REALLY happy with this as my league starter, once I got a few good pieces of gear I never failed Ultimatums with it since.
I run his ice crash zerk
95 lvl farming everything
I have all gear BIS except the staff i use hedgemonys cause the rares are like 15 ex
Best build i played so far and the one i enjoyed the most
Wtfpwn freeze with autoattack from hell !!
Leap slam becomes teleport with blitz ascendacy
NAVANDIS FTW !! IN NAVANDIS WE TRUST !
:-)
Hey. Why u have on Herald of purity 20/0, Blood and sand 6/0 and Precision 20/0 ? Or what it means? THANKS.
BTW Great guide.
Throughout the entire gems section there's a pretty big banner thing that explains what XX/YY means - gem level/gem quality. Some gems don't benefit from quality so there's no reason to increase it
@@NavandisGaming Oh XD I a blind. Now i can see that banner. i got subtitles turn on and that banner is hiding behind them.....
@@NavandisGaming Man, Thanks ALOT! - im Hyped
If i have a vaal ground slam avaiable. Should i use that one while leveling or use smite?
Smite is still much better for the first few acts because the base Ground Slam (without Rapid Expansion jewels) has a pretty small AOE and is not that fast early on. And you won't be able to spam Vaal Ground Slam early
Can u show the levelling up guide for passive tree?
Watch the guide - @7:28 you have the passive tree. The numbers indicate the order of the passives.
currently running your tectonic slam chieftain, shouldn't cost too much to change to this. Would the dps improve?

Can I ask how much damage it does if its fully geared
Any reason to use Dash over Leap Slam? Is it because Dash does not consume exerted attacks where as Leap Slam would?
yes :)
That and the fact that Leap Slam is slow as shit when your attack speed is as low as in this build
How come this build gets 4/5 rating for league starter and 3/5 rating regarding cost? Shouldn't a league starter be dirty cheap?
i started a new character and got vaal ground slam i should do this..
The only reason we pick Ancestral Cry is indeed for the armour buff, if you wish more AOE grab Seismic Cry (it lost its damage buff...) or none
I don't know what I'm doing 90% of the time yet.
any tips on upgrades/cluster jewel set up?
Awakened gems and a better weapon, unless you're running with a 900-1000 DPS staff, I'd say you're nowhere near close to "finishing" the build. Cluster jewels are useless for this build, there are plenty far better passives on the tree, so unless you just want to spend a few EX to get the exact same thing you would with regular passives, just focus on other gear.
@@NavandisGaming thanks for the tips! will def try the build this week. looks really fun! thanks for this mate
@@NavandisGaming What do you think of using Triumvirate Authority with soul ripper and soul catcher with this build?
How often should i be seeing the Cast on Crit trigger, dosnt seem to be often, im level 58.
Thanks for responding.
i feel like im doing something wrong im level 39 and the damage feels lacking
Idk about lvl 39 but this build is not end game capable. Damage is low, no move speed and over qol, not that tanky either. You will be able to do red maps with some investment but dps sucks for conquerors etc. I've started league with this build as a noob, and suffered enough before switching to ele hit raider
Also expedition mobs are pain in the ass for this build as they are quite tanky (while this build struggles with dps) and often deadly with some buffs for pure melee which can't kill them at range
so wait it wasn't that my builds were shit, it was that the league mechanic is broken?
i've rerolled so many builds looking for something that can survive random insta death with no indication of what killed me
ffs GGG, i have been frustrated since league start because of this
Trust me we all get fu**ed by Ultimatum.
The good news is, this build was actually capable of mitigating most of that and I've cleared pretty much all ultimatums I've encountered after I got a bit of practice 👍
can this build farm endgame bosses?
Why Chieftain and no Berserker? I'm following build for zerker. Is it because of easier a you said damage conversion and more tankiness?
Endurance charges + imortal call + fire damage = best for chieftain
You might be commenting on the wrong video, we don't run Pride or War Banner with this build 😁
@@NavandisGaming actually I did lol, I was refering to your lacerate glad build for 3.14!
HC SSF viable?
@@NavandisGaming Already upvoted your reply. It's just that I get this advice often and I wanted to make sure I understood the mechanic.
Why seething instead of bubbling for the life flask though?
Because most of the time you'll use your life flask when you're in deep shit, so 1 flask usage won't be enough and you'll need several back-to-back. That means the "over time" part of a Bubbling flask is wasted. If you only take like 1-2k damage out of 6k then there's no reason to use a flask, your life regen will suffice or a quick Enduring Cry.
But feel free to use whatever you prefer, there's no right or wrong here as personal playstyle will come into play as well
hi im sorry, but my ancestral cry always stays in 9 charges. u know why? thanks ♥
Ground Slam doesn't exert Ancestral Cry's attacks, use it when you're next to a boss or packs of mobs for extra armor.
im sure it was thoroughly thought through to allow vgs to be exerted....
where do i get cast on crit gem?
Act 4 after you finish the last quest in there or in Act 6 from Lily Roth after you complete her quest
i feel dumb for asking this but is it ssf viable?
Absolutely, you don't need any mandatory uniques and the recommended ones are quite common. For the rares self-found + crafting will work just fine 👍
anyone started it on 3.15? smite feels less powerfull than slam, is it though?
can i switch this to axe, i have 300dps+ 6l staff
Not without completely reworking half of the passive tree and axe specific nodes are pretty shit for elemental damage builds anyway
@@NavandisGaming okay thanks!! this is my first character and am loving it with the 100k dps on vaal ground slam

Vaal ST - disappear when hits obstacle ;/
Ah man, that's really a bummer! I didn't get the chance to test it yet, but I was looking forward to resurrect Spectral Throw :
@@NavandisGaming D2 hammer build

Is this a good build ?
SCION TANK CONTENT FINISHER PLZ !!!
the leveling form act 1 to 5 feels like garbage my dps sucks, i must suck at gearing if thats the case
Were you using Smite + recommended skills in the PoB until Act 6? I didn't start using Ground Slam until a Vaal dropped and I had a staff + rapid expansion jewel.
@@3ld00N yea I followed it but like I said I suck at gearing and just needed a new weapon
