i just turned 50 so i've been very nostalgic this year for the toys of my childhood lately and I'm realizing I was quite spoiled when I think back to all of the figures, vehicles & playsets I had in the 70s. Pulsar was one of them and I just remembered his name after seeing him on Facebook group. Nice restoration here with limited materials
I'm 48 and within the last few months, about a year I developed this strong nostalgia for my toys from when I was a kid. I just got Pulsar and a ton of Planet of the Apes stuff... Also two Corgi sets (Kojak & Starsky & Hutch) Greetings
Pulsar was one of my favorite toys. I always thought his sculpt and face were really well done. At some point, I thought he should be The Hulk, and painted him all green. Live and learn.
I’ve always thought Pulsar was a great Action Figure. He definitely is Mattel’s answer to Kenner’s Six Million Dollar Man! Even though Kenner never gave him a back story, as a kid I came up with a clever one. Great restoration and I loved your solution to Pulsar’s mission disks! Great video!
This is a cool figure, i take it he's another take off of the Six Million Dollar Man? Great work on reproducing those discs Dave, i can't imagine i'd have come up with a solution as good as that!
Giant He-Man face, reusing old head sculpts for sure and I think Big Jim figures, Jeff or Josh in particular had similar face structures as well. Mattel never missed a chance to recycle an older concept on a new toy
The badge looks fantastic! Great idea with the fresnel lens too. There are lenticular sheets to sell on ebay, though. I hope you can get more restorations like this so that you'll have the opportunity to play around with 2-frame lenticular animations!
This figure so needs a re-release. Because I like the concept of this action figure. The only problem with this figure, and probably why it didn’t sell as well as expected is mostly the lack of backstory for Pulsar. Give the Rom Spaceknight toy some credit, though his story was vague, they still touched on him, and he got an awesome Marvel comic book series to go with it. Can’t say the same for Pulsar, though. Oh well, this is still a cool toy, and I think we need a newly restored version of this figure.
I just found out about this guy about 2 years ago.You see that sun bleached hair,n that extreme sun tan? No doubt this guy's American.I'm not surprised u guys didn't get him out there.Impressive restoration.A 1derfull addition 2 your 12" collection.
Another great video! Amazing job with the stickers and especially with the disks. I need to find and try that plastic welder! Thanks for sharing, mate!
Plastic Weld is made by EMA Model supplies. Just do a search for 'Plastic Weld'. When you get it, make sure that you shut the bottle after every use - it evaporates very quickly - you can lose half a bottle in a few hours if you are not careful. Use a fine tipped, wooden handled brush to apply it, and you only need the tiniest drop on the brush to fix parts together. It evaporates so quickly, it leaves frost on the brush. It's great stuff, which I've used for many years.
Love your videos man! (I have an odd question, have you ever tried to work out a way to "re-flock" Action Man hair and beards or the Flock holy grail "Panthor" from Masters of the universe?? ☺ Seems to be a mystery for toy repairers. PS: You are the man! I send everyone your way when talking about fixing vintage things.. not just toys! ☺
I believe he actually did. There's a video he made awhile back of a very badly damaged Action Man that had been painted red and "left for scrap" by the previous owner. There's a part of that video where the damaged hair and beard is restored using some sort of glue and some matching "fuzz" from an inexpensive source.
Something you might want to try is a mixture of three parts surgical spirit to one part oil of wintergreen (methyl salicylate). I’ve used it lots of times over the years to soften/restore rubber boots and other motorcycle parts and it always works very well. For such small parts as AM hands should get good results in 24 hours or less.
I'd call #81 Bird Poo, myself. Color is an exact match for what a seagull does. I've never seen one of these. I'd love to see an autopsy of the other figure, unless it's *that* rare.
It depends on what I am trying to glue. There is no one glue for everything. Plastic weld works better than anything as it's not really a glue, but it only works on certain types of plastic. Super glue is good, but brittle, so no good on flexible surfaces, canopy glue is for clear plastic, etc.
Hey Dave! What fabric did you print the logo on to before putting it to the shirt? I thought it was cotton fabric. Amazing restoration video as always. 👍🏻
I used the iron on transfer into a cotton fabric, correct. You can just buy printable fabric sheets as well. I've used this on some recent videos on the six million dollar man.
I remember being creeped out by that toy as a kid. My buddy had it and always wanted me to be that guy or Boba Fett. I always wanted to be Steve Austin, Batman or Darth Vader! Lol
Sorry I'm talking on my phone and it's messed up my my text I was wondering was there a company that makes remakes of this action figures clothing also need remakes of the six million Dollar Man clothing
After the Iconicon panel, picked up apparently entirely the wrong Plastic Weld kind/brand (The closest I could get was a syringe style one. Should have watched the video before going to the store.) Emboldened to try painting the head. One thing, I swear the break I’m mending was along a previously broken and glued break.
@@toypolloi Dave: you can’t get that brand in Canada, even by using Amazon.uk. Do you think Plastruct’s Plastic Weld General Purpose Plastic Solvent Cement would be close enough?
Got the Plastruct Plastic Weld from Amazon. Seems to have done the trick, thanks. (closer inspection revealed that it had merely broken along a previously glued break.)
After you had married the hand to the wrist (07:55), you should have then got a tiny amount of Plastic Weld on your brush, and just touched it to the end of the break. Capilliary action would have run a bead of Plastic Weld along the crack, sealing it. You would not have even been able to see the crack afterwards. I've used this stuff for about 30 years now, and I swear by it. It's great for tiny hard to reach parts. It's great stuff, and permanent, too, and not denatured by damp, as Superglue is.
@@toypolloi Dear David, Thank you for your kind response. It would be very helpful if, like other creators: a list of eBay or Amazon links were provided in the video description. Because listing and links come and go I can't put direct links. I would be forever updating them which is just not possible. It's a plastic magnifying reading sheet. Hope that helps.

Very devoted. 👍 I remember these figures quite well. Too bad no shows were ever developed.
I just found a pulsar with the disk and working pump internals , cool find
The patch and the mission discs came out fantastic…bravo!
Pulsar was one of my favorite toys. I always thought his sculpt and face were really well done. At some point, I thought he should be The Hulk, and painted him all green. Live and learn.
You're the great scientist of lost, broken and forgotten toys my friend! Kudos!
Nice one Dave! Pulsar was the first non-star wars toy I remember from childhood. I took him to school in the first grade.
Love these restoration vids! 👍🏻

I have several of these, and his hair is indeed a warm, toasted marshmallow sort of a white. Nice work!
Ingenious solution on the mission disks and the Plastic weld is a product I had never heard of. Amazing!
You are a very creative person with these vintage toy restorations, thank you for the video Dave!
I'm always impressed by how resourceful you are when making new bits from scratch.

Always entertaining and informative. I just purchased a Pulsar figure last week and he needed mission disks and a hair touch up. Thank you !!
My pleasure

youre so bloody talented
Great job.......!
You'd be amazed on how well Huggies Wet Wipes would work on cleaning toys of this condition.
A lot of things work well. Wipes can be great but they (depending what kind) can leave perfumes or unwanted chemicals.
I was really hoping you could fix the internal workings but still another great video.

Good job, turned out nice. Thanks for showing.
You never cease to amaze me my friend. Brilliant 👍👍👍
Cool toy. If they'd release it in the UK I'd definitely have wanted one.
Great job!👏🏽

entertaining restoration as usual

Oops meant to post that on your 'Vintage Action Man - Gripping hands colour Results 2019' video where it would make more sense. ;)
I finally got a Pulsar today! He reminds me of Ted Knight.
OH MY GAWDZILLA.
I had one of these as a child. Loved it. Never knew its name or origin! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Tremendous job. Great restoration vid! 😎
If you want to remove any stubborn stains on white fabric then plimsole whitener might be worth a try.
Another great vid.
Would luv to see you get your hands on an old fav toy of mine.. Pulsars enemy 'Hypnos'.Never seen one since i was a lad👍
That would be fun. It's taken me a good few years to get Pulsar, so it could be a while until I find Hypnos :D
I’ve seen some lenticular sheets online if you ever do the GI JOE B.A.T.S you should look into it
Anyone else get goose bumps when he scratched the magnifying sheet?
One of the coolest toys ever produced. Sadly there wasn't a cartoon or tv series like the bionic man to spur more interest.
I'd call #81 Bird Poo, myself. Color is an exact match for what a seagull does.
I've never seen one of these. I'd love to see an autopsy of the other figure, unless it's *that* rare.
do you have any fix for lose legs ?
What happened to the ultrasonic cleaner for the figures & clothing
Pulsar has skipped a few leg-days at the gym...a little top heavy :o)
great video. is it me or does Pulsars head remind you a lot of the Mattel BattleStar colonial warrior head ?
Was Pulsar like some type of cyborg or a superbeing or something? (never heard of him till now)
I notice you use different glue for different jobs. Super glue, gorilla, plastic weld etc. How do you decide which glue to use in which application?

Really nice looking restoration. Do the holes on the back of his head serve a purpose?
GreenSun They were for the sound
No they are to let light in I believe , for when you open the head
I remember being creeped out by that toy as a kid. My buddy had it and always wanted me to be that guy or Boba Fett. I always wanted to be Steve Austin, Batman or Darth Vader! Lol
When doing your badges do you print with ink jet or laser jet?
I use an inkjet printer.

Hi Toy Polloi. Excellent video as usual.
Who do you use to get replacement action man hands?

One thing, I swear the break I’m mending was along a previously broken and glued break.
(Dare I try Testor’s model glue?)
No. Stick to plastic weld as it's more than a glue. Cheers

Wow.... he looks a lot like Lorne Green
Interesting that Mattel was able to predict in the 1970s the use of compact discs to store data.

Capillary action pulls the plastic weld into the join and does the job. No need to add lots to this. Cheers

I did. Don't see the point in doing that.
