This is great information. I am one of the few that had many career advances without a PE license while working in the public and private sectors. However, at this stage of my career, I have come to the realization that I need to obtain my licensure if I want to achieve higher goals. As of today, I am 61 yrs young, with over 35 years of traffic and transportation experience and most of my managers are either retired and moved away or have died. How do I prepare my work experience letter in this situation?

Preparing a work experience letter when many of your former managers have retired or passed away can be challenging, but there are several steps you can take to ensure that your letter accurately reflects your experience and meets the requirements for licensure:
Review the requirements for work experience letters in your jurisdiction. Each state or province may have different requirements for what should be included in a work experience letter, so it's important to review these carefully before you begin.
Identify any former colleagues who may be able to provide a reference for you. Even if your former managers have retired or passed away, there may be other colleagues who worked closely with you and can provide insight into your experience and accomplishments. Consider reaching out to former colleagues, supervisors, or clients who may be able to provide a reference for you.
Provide as much detail as possible in your work experience letter. Even if you don't have a direct supervisor who can attest to your experience, you can still provide a detailed account of your work history, including specific projects you worked on, your role in those projects, and any major accomplishments or challenges you faced.
Be prepared to provide additional documentation if necessary. Depending on the requirements in your jurisdiction, you may need to provide additional documentation to support your work experience letter. This may include project plans, reports, or other relevant documents that demonstrate your experience and expertise.
Consider working with a professional organization or mentor who can provide guidance and support. If you're unsure how to prepare your work experience letter or need additional support, consider reaching out to a professional organization or mentor who can provide guidance and support as you navigate the licensure process.
Ultimately, the key to preparing a successful work experience letter is to provide as much detail as possible and to be prepared to provide additional documentation or references if necessary. With careful preparation and attention to detail, you can demonstrate your experience and expertise and achieve your licensure goals.

Hello, thank you for the wonderful job you do in sensitizing FE and PE candidates about the vital pieces of information they need. I just recently passed the FE, and immediately registered to sit for my PE (Metallurgical and Materials Engineering) exam scheduled for Oct. 2022. However, I had already registered and booked the venue before I realized that I need to provide my professional experience details on my NCEES portal. Do you think this will affect my exam? Also, is it a MUST to provide the professional experience details and academic information before I sit for the exam? I have a PhD in Materials Engineering, but my state (Alabama) didn't waive my FE, so I had to write it first. Does my graduate work experience count as part of the 4 years work experience required by NCEES? Thanks for your response in advance.

Hello Dominic, thanks for your comment. This is a very specific case and in cases like this we always recommend that you send an email to your state board and request that they review your case and provide you with direction because even if we were to give you some type of answer, it doesn't mean it will be the same answer your state board is going to give you. So my best advice would be to reach out to them and to ask them directly.

Hi Anthony thank you for your RUclips channel and videos sharing experience on PE and related exams. I am currently working on my PE application, I have 2 letters from my former supervisors which are enclosed and sealed. However, they are dated a few years back, would you recommend me to get new letters or they would be ok for current application? thanks so much for your response!!

Hello! I'm glad to hear that you find my RUclips channel and videos helpful for PE and related exams.
Regarding your question about the letters of recommendation for your PE application, it's generally recommended to submit recent letters that accurately reflect your current skills, abilities, and work experience. While letters that are a few years old may still hold some value, it's always beneficial to have more up-to-date references.
Here are a few factors to consider when deciding whether to obtain new letters of recommendation:
*Relevance: If the content of the letters is still applicable and relevant to your current work and professional abilities, they may still be acceptable for your application.
*Recency: Letters that are more recent can provide a stronger endorsement of your current skills and capabilities, as they reflect your recent work experience and accomplishments.
*Contact information: Ensure that the contact information provided in the letters is still accurate and that the individuals who wrote the letters are still available and willing to verify their authenticity if needed.
Ultimately, the decision to obtain new letters or use the existing ones depends on the specific requirements of your PE application and your judgment of their relevance and impact. If you have any doubts or concerns, it may be beneficial to reach out to the licensing board or agency overseeing the PE application process for guidance on what they prefer or require.
I hope this helps, and best of luck with your PE application! If you have any further questions, feel free to ask.

NCEES let me schedule my PE exam so can I work on my experience after passing PE and later get my licence once I get enough experience or should I wait for experience to be completed before appearing for PE exam.

Some candidates choose to take the PE exam early in their careers, even before meeting the full experience requirements, while others wait until they have gained the necessary experience.
To make an informed decision, it is advisable to review the specific requirements and guidelines provided by the engineering regulatory body in the state or province where you wish to become licensed. They can provide accurate and up-to-date information on the process and any restrictions or considerations regarding the timing of the exam and gaining experience.
