  • It's been a year since we've had the cam replaced and the top end redone in our daily driver (2005 Chevy Silverado with a 4.8L push rod V8). Our decision was to run Castrol Edge 5W40 synthetic with AC Delco's engine oil supplement. In a previous video we discuss 40 weight oil being better for hydraulic lifters.

      Good eye! Ya the other winter wheels were getting rusty and the ones from the newer trucks use a wider wheel.

He told me don’t come into the house till u can tell the differences .... since then I look at things in detail and 3D 🤣

    Our 07 tahoe started having lifter tick noise when I first used royal purple 5w30. From then on I changed it back to mobile1 5w30 ran that for a bit but it seemed like that oul takes more time to heat up when it's cold outside in Arizona only cold temperatures are late October to January... it doesnt snow in the area we live in but temperatures do drop to low 30s some nights.
    I recently changed from mobile1 to shell rotella 5w30 gas trucks lifter tick is still there but with this oil it's much better for warm time. But still cant the darn tick to stop before we even decide to do a cam swap in the future.
    Should I go with a 5w40 oil and put additive to bump the oil psi. When cold it fluctuates 30-35psi I'm guessing.

      Try Castrol 5W40 synthetic and the AC Delco oil supplement, see if that makes a difference for you.

    How are the double O-rings holding up on the Elite clean side separator? They are a 7/8x11/16x3/32 #13 size. Danco stk no 35730B

    Will this work for a vq35hr? I have a tick coming from the passenger side valve cover only after spirited driving, when cooled down and start again noise goes away, other vq owners say it’s normal while also saying vq valvetrains tend to be noisy, been looking on all forums but no results. The noise is killing me. Also just changed oil to 5w-40 Castrol edge.

      Did you notice a difference after switching to 5W40 Castrol? That's what I run in my VQ35DE.

    I've had a similar experience with my new build slight ticking..almost sounds like a noisy injector..like yours did or does..do you think it got better from just driving more or the 5-40?
    Edit now thinking about it mine sounds just like yours towards the end of the video.

    • @AnthonyJ350
      @AnthonyJ350  3 года назад

      I think it got better. I've logged about 30,000KM since the cam install. Keep in mind I have headers so it's going to tick a bit more.
      I'm also running AC Delco oil supplement, been using that for a few years now.

    Are you still using 5w40 castrol on the 350Z?

    • @AnthonyJ350
      @AnthonyJ350  3 года назад +1

      Yup, the 350Z gets the exact same oil, oil viscosity and oil supplement.

    Do you think 5w40 will work ok in a 4.6 2v engine with 400k miles (clearance wise)it takes 5w20 from factory and it’s noisy on 5w30 and burns oil

    • @AnthonyJ350
      @AnthonyJ350  3 года назад +1

      That's a lot of mileage. I would watch this video from this Ford technician, maybe ask him because he's the expert on those engines ruclips.net/video/VJgu-g5Eq0w/видео.html

      @AnthonyJ350  3 года назад

      I would research it a lot because I know those Fords use oil to actuate components on the top end. I thought 5W30 would do the trick for you. What brand of oil is in it right now?

    • @AnthonyJ350
      @AnthonyJ350  3 года назад

      It has hardened ones in it from Comp Cams. I really think it's the headers creating a lot of noise compared to the cast manifolds.

      @@AnthonyJ350 yes. That could be it also. I found also that pushrod length could be a bit longer. Use the pushrod tool. It helped tremendously.
