- South Dakota Road Trip To Sturgis Ride along as I travel to Sturgis South Dakota and the 84th Motorcycle Rally. I start out at the North Dakota/South Dakota State Line on US Highway 83 First stop is the State Capital Town of Pierre, I take a walking tour of the capital building and grounds Then onto Fort Pierre where I check out the historic Railroad museum and the Verendrye Monument Historic memorial and old town Fort Pierre museum
On day two I head west on Interstate 90 stopping at the Pioneer Auto Show museum then onto the old Minuteman missile site ending up in Sturgis. I am arriving a few days to to explore the town and surrounding area
This is one fun historic trip through South Dakota. Sit back and enjoy the ride

Spent many years working in Pierre SD on and off. Great place to be and the people were always so friendly. Its nice to sit here and see it again.
Thanks for sharing the museums in Pierre. My mom was born and raised in this area back in the early 1900's. The metal objects you didn't know were bits for a horse bridal.

Yay, Russ is heading back to Sturgis after an absence from last year. I was watching his 2019's RV There Yet Summer Road Trip videos when Russ went to Sturgis for the first time in his old van. I think this year he took a similar route as the 2019 trip. He was worn out by the time he reach Sturgis as he had stated on the videos, and he stayed for a while there before heading back to Arizona.

Ironically, the city (founded in 1800) is named after a man named Pierre - Pierre Chouteau, Jr.
Heh Russ, I was grooving to your Oregon posts every few days. That was a real shocker to jump to South Dakota. Just like that. I figured in real time you would be about 2 weeks ahead of your videos. I look forward to the ""missing" videos. I bet you hated leaving that cool Coastal area. Clean breathing at least with no smoke thanks to the winds coming off the grand Pacific Ocean. I was worried about the wildfires affecting you once you got to Oregon. I'm a senior who's lived in the western states my entire life, and I've never seen a fire season like this one before. Glad you are safe and keep up the good work. The South Dakota capital reminds me a lot of the West Virginia capital you showed us last year.
Senior here from the west as well. The coast in fact. And I don't ever remember fire seasons like the ones we're having these last few years. We had heatwaves sometimes when I was growing up. We had winds. We had periods of low humidity and overgrowth. But I don't ever remember fire seasons covering half the continent and up into Canada. Or entire historic towns burning down. Population? Bad actors? I really don't know but it's troubling for sure.

@@goodoakpress They have. But it makes one wonder how many other fires were started the same way. Catching someone doing such a thing is rare. The man you mention was someone with a criminal past by the way. Seems to be a lot of those running lose these days that shouldn't be. I sure hate seeing this happen. So much suffering for nothing. Traveled the same areas 40 some years ago on a BMW motorcycle 🏍 from Ohio twice. Went through the museum in Murdo and the Minute man display. The towns have expanded somewhat. Glad I could take one more trip from your a.c. van. My moto didn't have a.c., but the heater worked fine. It was the same time of year. 🥵 🏍🥵

The river view rv park is awesome. The view of the bridge over the river and the town beyond made it look very green and lush so l looked it up on google maps. You're camera view from the hill is better, lol,. Google satellite view makes it look very dry without much green anywhere. But google street-view of the neighborhoods are a different story. They're green and tree-lined. Very beautiful. I like looking at the neighborhoods of the places you visit as it gives me an idea of the area and the people who live there. A good feeling about the place here. Cheers. 👍

Russ, enjoy your stay at Sturgis. The Auto museum and the missile silo were good to see again. Who services all this cars and other equipment. Must be a huge task. Visiting the State Capital building was good to see again. I was concerned that you might have gotten into some local smoke in Oregon and Idaho; I learned that there are numerous fires raging in those states as well. Have a cool one and stay cool.

Keep your A/C on the recirculation mode, Russ so you don't breathe so much of that smoke. The A/C evaporator core produces moisture and helps to remove some of the particles from the outside air. Take care, Mike ASE Master.

You went to the Casey Tibbs Rodeo Center Museum. That was where the statues of the rodeo riders were. Pierre means “rock” or “stone” in French

38:23 Those are the levers for the depot signal to let an incoming train know they have train orders to pick up before proceeding. I grew up on the C&NW in Wisconsin and the depot here had a set of these.

I just took a road trip from Pasadena, CA to Upstate NY. Took it slow and went through SD to see Mt. Rushmore. We saw the signs for the Wall Drug Store and the Pioneer Auto Museum. Had to stop at both. The auto museum was by far my favorite of the two. What a place.
I know you’ve been to the midwest Russ, but any chance you’ll do a Northeast trip? The finger lakes area of Central NY is absolutely beautiful and a stark contrast to what the majority of people think NY would look like. I’d love to watch you explore Buffalo, Niagara Falls, Syracuse and Finger Lakes regions.

Sturgis is going to be over with before you get out of that car museum in Murdo. I visited there with my folks in 1965. They have really fixed it up since then.

You were talking about how it felt when you were touring the Capitol building and there was hardly anybody there. That reminded me of the day I took a tour of Capitol building of West Virginia. It seemed like I had the whole building to myself. I saw no signs stating that it was closed but it sure felt like I wasn't supposed to be there.
