I watched this video several times over the years and have saved it in my playlist. To me, this could be an important survival skill. Thank you… even these 3 years later!
I love the idea of an adventure right out your back door! It was a very fun and downright playful idea. It saved a lot on travel expenses also, but it was the backyard aspect that I enjoyed the most. 💫♥️💫
Loved the views on the ridge and the closeup of the moon. The area you selected stayed in the sun longer than those close to you. You made camping in the snow look like fun. Thanks.
My favorite part was building the snow shelter. The views were beautiful and I appreciate the effort put into the filming as I know it was not easy. Awesome drone footage as well.
Different is good. It looked like a beautiful hike and what a beautiful place to wake up! I found your whole setup process very interesting. I'm glad you stayed warm all night. Thanks for sharing your adventure with us.
What an amazing backyard you have! I enjoyed the adventure with you. I like the way you so thoughtfully share information to help others do the same thing. God bless you!
That’s the exact same snow shelter I learned to make in the Boy Scouts. I never got to actually use it, as I’m from Southern California, originally, and our snow camps always ended up having snow. Lol
I was surprised that the tarp top worked as well as you report. I took a snow survival course years ago and built a snow cave in Yosemite at Badger pass. The snow was more than 20 feet deep tho. But you can keep a snow cave warm with a candle and just body heat will supposedly keep it at 32 deg. If nothing else is available sheltering under a snow covered juniper or other suitable tree works fairly well. It will keep you alive anyway. And m,y advice: get some cross country or alpine skiis or at least some snow shoes.
I, too, am surprised that having a tarp top worked so well. I took a winter camping course (in Yellowstone) in the early 80s and we, too, built snow caves (Quinzhees actually) so I was expecting you'd do that when I started watching. Your "trench" method has the advantage that your shelter won't collapse on you as you're digging it and maybe trap you. I wonder how the tarp top will work if it's snowing and snow starts accumulating. Either way, love the winter camping episode.
Awesome video, Tristan! I loved how cozy your little snow fort looked. And I know it was hard work getting those camera angles so thank you for putting this together and sharing.
Awesome solo mountain hike - kind of like a Vision quest! Crampons appeared to help but in retrospect snowshoes would have been good idea (I've done my share of post holing). Only problem with tarp is you can't stargaze in bed. I lived off of MREs for a couple of days after hurricane Michael last year - you get used to it.... or not ;-)
This was an awesome video. I’m not much of a winter camper but this looked absolutely incredible. what a beautiful place you live in. I’m really loving the drone footage I’m so happy you got it.
Great drone shots! looks like it was a lot of fun! i didn't think that you were going to stay warm. think you could have built a snow cave just over the ridge. beautiful morning!
I loved this video! So interesting and cool what you did and I like how you explained everything. Would love to see more like this. Great footage with your drone too.
Just a note, if you don't have snow shoes, you could use your tarp to support you ontop of the snow. If you have a blanket, quilt, tarp, or something else that can be spread out across the snow, it will support you, somewhat, like snowshoes would.
Your video photography and drone shots are exceptionally fun to watch! Have you done a camera gear video? Hint, hint! I always feel like I am along for the ride! 😁 Looks like you were on top of the World! LOL at bad cinnamon buns! 🤣 What an ADVENTURE!
I stumbled across this video. I was captivated and enjoyed your video. It is too bad you didn’t include any night shots while you were hunkered down. Would have loved to see how you past the time in your shelter. Good job!
What was the coldest temps? I live in NE Iowa, gets 20-30 below when it wants to lol. I haven't done a snow shelter yet but plan to, but not when we are at our coldest lol. I did ice fish last year and stayed on the ice a couple times, but in an insulated hub shelter.
Very interesting. I like that you explained everything that you were doing and why. Do you sometimes carry a tent for camping when you hike? Or is that determined by how long you might be hiking.
This was great! I would love to try something like that. Full moon night was an excellent choice. Wish your tarp had a skylight. Hope you *do* mountain camp more and take us along any season. :) Favorite part: the views of the mountains and the city.
Quick question. Your feet (and shoes) got wet. No chance of them drying overnight, so were your feet freezing in the am - once you had to put the wet shoes back on.
where's the SUV? just kidding, yeah, I liked it, novel, something I would try, How cold was it outside that night? Love the drone perspective. Would have been nice to see a sunrise video... thanks for sharing...
Zero. Wind. Not a typical trip up, on, and down a mountain. Anybody trying this, prepare for a much windier experience! How fortunate. Did you have an avalanche beacon/peep?
Great shelter sir! Nice job staying out that cold wind. Love the views from the top. I'll be in your area in 2 weeks. I'm taking a roadtrip from AZ to Yellowstone and passing through the Salt Lake area. Any suggestions on must sees or gems in that area outside of the city or in northern utah? I've been watching you for years so I have some spots picked out but wondering if you have some favorite locations? Long or short hikes. Doesn't matter. I've been looking at Frary Peak, Wind Caves, Waterfall Canyon.
If you are looking for a better tarp, look on Craigslist under tarps. In colorado a billboard company sells the old signs cheap. You might have someone by you. .......... Ad coconut and cranberries to the sandwich. Then it's my favorite to pack
Next time I recommend building a small wall around the edge of your tarp to act as a wind break incase the weather goes to shit in the middle of the night.
I've always wanted to try camping in a snow cave. Thanks for showing me some fresh air. My life is 99% work and homework these days. I'm curious why you dont strap some snowshoes on the outside of your pack?
Two areas of question: why no snow shoes or skis? and in general terms how do you dispose of waste on a frozen mountain top? Very enjoyable video. I can't wait to see the next one.
Great video, Tristan! I would've loved to see some footage of the night sky with the full moon if you happen to be awake next time🌚🌕 🌙 loved the trench setup and footage
Raising the tarp to make a slop or angle,,,if it snowed,,the flat tarp system will not be a good time. Just some advice,,you da man bro!, keep up the good work.
I loved the whole video but I have to say I cringed every time you took a step in the snow and wend down. I have a bad back and I felt like it jarred my back every time your footing wasn’t stable! Lol. Great video as usual. Thanks for taking us along!
I thought it was a great video Tristan! Different but good... and drone shots as always, gave a good perspective. My wife and I laughed when you said "I'm excited to sleep here tonight.." haha You've got me wanting to do a video like this at some point. Definitely far from my core video content but still in my interest range.... perhaps a prickly pear cactus and ocotillo shelter... because you know I've got to build something ;) Joe
Thanks Joe! Glad you liked this one. I had a great time, and it's always fun to try out new things. And I DEFINITELY support you building an ocotillo and prickly pear shelter!
I watched this video several times over the years and have saved it in my playlist. To me, this could be an important survival skill. Thank you… even these 3 years later!
You must have a lot of fun dreaming up your adventures. Very entertaining and inspiring.

Your love of hiking will reap many rewards down the line, health wise. Keep 'em coming.
Setting sun, rising moon and wonderful vistas! What more could you ask for.
My favorite part was building the snow shelter. The views were beautiful and I appreciate the effort put into the filming as I know it was not easy. Awesome drone footage as well.
This is great, right in your backyard. Amazing views; sunset, moonrise and you were warm and got a lot of sleep. Wow, just amazing.
Different is good. It looked like a beautiful hike and what a beautiful place to wake up! I found your whole setup process very interesting. I'm glad you stayed warm all night. Thanks for sharing your adventure with us.
I think my favorite was the sun setting and seeing the moon coming up.
That was a great change of pace! It reminded me of spring skiing. And that moon!
Great video. I liked it all from the music to the transitions to the shots to the drone work. A good "story".
Alone and willing to brave the cold-- wow
It's a fun adventure 👍
Great work! Love it!
Casse's at work.... and you are going to walk home! LoL 😂😂😂😂😂
Wonderful mini get away...a great relationship allows each to be themselves, out standing both are very lucky many today lack these fine quality's
Great video! The camera angles made it interesting, and the drone footage was a nice touch.
Well done!
What an amazing backyard you have! I enjoyed the adventure with you. I like the way you so thoughtfully share information to help others do the same thing. God bless you!
The sunset, the full moon - beautiful! Thanks for sharing!
Hard to believe your feet didn't freeze. My favorite part, the beautiful, sweeping views with the drone and the music. Good job🐦

I'm not entirely sure but that is like prime avalanche snow

Very cool mini adventure, the shelter looked quite cozy!
Top of mountain camping is definitely the best. I loved the video.
This was an awesome video. I’m not much of a winter camper but this looked absolutely incredible. what a beautiful place you live in. I’m really loving the drone footage I’m so happy you got it.
Great video! It’s great to find a creator with great content like this from the valley!
You really know how to anticipate just how much food you’ll need. Great skills to know!
Just a note, if you don't have snow shoes, you could use your tarp to support you ontop of the snow. If you have a blanket, quilt, tarp, or something else that can be spread out across the snow, it will support you, somewhat, like snowshoes would.
Great change of pace Tristan, enjoyed the whole video. But in all honesty, you have made me into kind of a desert lover - LOL
Utah Jeff ... here.....Reminds of when I was a Scout Master .....We did a lot of snow camping
This is so incredible! I hope I get the confidence to do this one day. Thanks for sharing Tristan.
Nice addition of mountain camping!
Cracked me up about the cinnamon mre. Nice work environment.
Filming this must have been...A BEAR !! ... thank you so much I truly enjoy this 😊💖
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it!
Liked the whole video, very enjoyable

Dostum çok cesur ve Bi o kadar da delisin👏👏👏
This was the 1st of your videos that I’ve watched. This was fantastic!! I Sub’d.
I love Lewis mountain. One summer morning I headed up to around where you camped and watched the sunrise over the Ogden valley.
I LOVE it! you have such a good hold on 'time'... you just do it and go with it soooooo amazing.

What a gorgeous spot! Loved the video!😎
Very beautiful place (village)
Enjoyed that. 👍👍
Good video man. The Himalayas of America.
Thanks for fun video.
Oh my gosh Tristan. I just flipped to this video. And was digging it. Then u said Ogden. Im in logan small word. Good content. Keep it up.

Been to Ogden many times. Stayed there years ago.
I liked the drone footage of you hiking near the end.
You need a better tarp for the roof and longer and wider and pack snow around the edges to keep heat inside better
Heat?
You are brave to be climbing all these mountains by yourself.
Sweet video and very well put together. Thank you
Thanks Hillary!
where's the SUV? just kidding, yeah, I liked it, novel, something I would try, How cold was it outside that night? Love the drone perspective. Would have been nice to see a sunrise video... thanks for sharing...
oh, yeah, think maybe snowshoes would have been handy.
Zero. Wind.
Not a typical trip up, on, and down a mountain. Anybody trying this, prepare for a much windier experience! How fortunate.
Did you have an avalanche beacon/peep?
Why didn't you wear snowshoes? How did you get your feet dry? Terrific video!
Nice drone shots!
7:50 I thought you were a storm trooper
this was a great video! i liked how happy you were when you were done building the shelter

I was wondering, since this is shot in spring time, wether you had no worries while climbing this steep slope, for snowslides or avalanches ?
WOW......thanks
🥾 🗻 Awesome experience and perspective! 👀 Glad there were no bears 🐻. Thanks for sharing. 🏔
I've always wanted to try camping in a snow cave. Thanks for showing me some fresh air. My life is 99% work and homework these days. I'm curious why you dont strap some snowshoes on the outside of your pack?
Because I don't have any 😁

Great video, Tristan! I would've loved to see some footage of the night sky with the full moon if you happen to be awake next time🌚🌕 🌙 loved the trench setup and footage
Thought I was gonna land on the moon 🌝 when he zoomed in lmao 🤣.
Dip into the bushcraft world? Part of the vision for the channel?
Enjoyable video. Different.
Can I ask what the date of this video was from? I was in New Hampshire around the same time and slept out in 0 degree temps with a full moon
Check the video description 👍
Raising the tarp to make a slop or angle,,,if it snowed,,the flat tarp system will not be a good time. Just some advice,,you da man bro!, keep up the good work.
I specifically chose the flat top design because I knew it wasn't going to snow 👍
I loved the whole video but I have to say I cringed every time you took a step in the snow and wend down. I have a bad back and I felt like it jarred my back every time your footing wasn’t stable! Lol. Great video as usual. Thanks for taking us along!
Nice job. I would like to see the trail home and the I made it victory moment. Good video anyway.
Thanks for good video, from S.Korea.
Howuch snow up where you at in middle of winter or at it's deepest pack?
Wonderful same like murree swat love from Pakistan

Thanks Joe! Glad you liked this one. I had a great time, and it's always fun to try out new things. And I DEFINITELY support you building an ocotillo and prickly pear shelter!
That looked like a burial site
Wow! That’s all I can say!
You need more than a desert right now my man
Watched it all.
Loved it! Envious to be sure. Well, maybe I need to take care of that envy? Michael
Niced place
Great video. I would love to do that sleep over. Great.
Thanks, glad you liked it!
Cocoon sounds much better than "snow coffin". I can't imagine Cassie was too wild about that one!
She was fine with it 😁
Which peak view or peak finder app you use? Thanks!
I don't use one. I have PeakFinder but never use it. I just look at maps.
@@SUVRVing Thanks!
Awesome
Young man never feel cold anywhere
How would you protect yourself if there is wild animals attack?
** gear you should use: snowshoes! Aluminum 8× 25 with little crampons.
Ayyyyyyy I live there utah gang where you at
