The weather was going to be chilly for the wedding. I left the fabric store at 8:00pm and had two capes made for the flower girls by 10:00 pm. They looked awesome !
This tutorial was very easy to follow! I was pleasantly surprised by the end result, especially since it wasn’t a very lengthy/timely project. I definitely thought it would look like it was quickly thrown together, but it actually turned out really nice. I received a lot of compliments on it! Thanks for the upload :) Edit: Since I see comments on fabric type, I used Blizzard Fleece fabric for my cloak.
I've sewn for decades and this video was awesome! I'm going to make fancy white capes for 2 little girls w/ faux "ermine" trim using your method! Thanks so much!
I feel like using glue will make it look cheap and handmade, if you have a sewing machine, or just know how to sew, just sew/hem the two layers together.
Oh this will be perfect for the cosplay I’m doing! I’m making a cosplay of a sky kid from sky children of the light and I didn’t know how to make a nice cape for it, which is the most important part of the outfit
Saaame, but do you think it would look okay on a guy? Tbh I hate how the full cape looks, seems like a rain cape but this is shorter and does not cover the chest, looks cool, but would it look okay on a guy?
It's cold out let me quickly fashion a fucking cape out of some fabric I have lying around for just such an occasion! As well as my threads and sewing kit, crafting knife, a spare button that's the perfect size. Oh, and I've been dying to use the fabric glue I just bought!
Sieffy13 well I have a sewing box lots of fabric some fabric glue and a pair of crafting scissors cuz it's a hobby and your supposed to do it in ur free time then wear it out simple logic and you don't necessarily have to make it
「SMILE DIP」 for the season she seems to be in it would be way too long, longer capes of this thickness (2 layers) are a bit overwhelming for this season unless rain and such
i’ll try making this, but NOT with felt. Felt will probably be one of the worst materials I can choose to use. Will go with cotton instead because it never really gets cold where I am. Also no fabric glue, I’m sewing that in!
Love the tutorial but a windy day or high moisture one and the fabric glue doesn't work. Fine to use in a rush for just chilly but dry weather, but a quick top stitch would add a finishing detail and some seam strength (a full proper seam stitch with a top stitch would be better if you have the time and machine obviously). But this is a great base for an expensive looking inexpensive piece. Adding a shoulder seam or doing it as a three piece capelet (one back piece sewn to two front sections), if you have wider shoulders or are plus sized will help with the fit. Adding a decorative trim to the bottom or faux fur on the bottom and top for added warmth and decoration are also good options. Hand holes or pockets may be added at the side (with or without contrasting trim). Even adding a print, patch, or embroidery to the back center or lapel area of the front will help personalize it and give it a more expensive feel.
Late to comment but may help others. This type has the front gap, so half circle is needed. For a full front closure that you can add buttons to, use a full circle and overlap slightly before sewing on the decorative collar. Add a hood with a half a yard of fabric cut in a half circle shape as well. ( The rounded side sewn to the collar opening, leaving the straight edge to frame your face.)
Boys have worn them throughout history as well with varring details and lengths. Goggle kinsale cloaks, nightwatchmen cloak colonial cloak, and British soldiers cloaks for inspiration. Also Nordic fur ones are very nice.
Not me, using this to make a cosplay from a show that ended ages ago because trying to buy a cosplay would be like taking a bulldozer through my savings- could never be me ☻︎
That's nice and all but I really doubt you'd be able to complete this on the same day of your date. At least not without it looking hap hazard. Oh and fabric glue may work temporarily but you're gonna wanna sew that sucker or you're gonna have a bad time.
You need the right fabrics for warmth. 100% real wool will be warmer, longer length, an actual hood, and overlapping button fronts help. They can also be lined with every thing from a pretty shiny finish, to full on fur lining. Waterproofed with a simple will spray. Etc. But then she would have to call it a Kinsale cloak.
ew, no no no, do not use fabric glue for this! she was willing to sew the collar, she should sew the whole thing! also felt is very itchy, use some softer (and visually contracting) material for the lining unless you want red arms. a synthetic silk would work fine for the lining, and a heavy cotton for the outside would looks and feel better.
Bullcrap, you can not make it with normal fabric that you can buy at a fabric store (because the size wont work) dont try this it is a waste of your time
Will I be able to do this without saucy French music playing?
buttreaper30000 legally, no! :)
You can, but it won't turn out correctly.
You gotta have the saucy French music or it just won't work (I wheezed at that comment, so thank you)
No.
🙅♀️
If anyone is confused it’s just a circle skirt but you measure your neck not your waist
Caitlin Belle Isle Yeah good point.
Tru tru thanks
Thankyou 😭😭😭
Good point

How much fabric did you use?
Hey how much fabric it will take approx?..
@@zahidashafeeq3956 It's been a little while since I've made this, but I believe I ended up with about 4 yards?
What was the width of the fabric?
Please don't use felt for this, it will look bad with fabric glue, drape wrong, and be itchy. they used fleece or something like it in this video
does it matter?
Em Wiebe Yes if you genuinely want to make it
@@emiliew5553 If you don't want to be itching and scratching as you wear it, yes.
the Vin Milaje
no, someone corrected them saying “wool, they used wool” and i asked if that mattered lmao
If it's cheap felt it will look naff, but real semi felted wool is gorgeous.
she forgot her purse
"Forget that purse! This cape is bomb!" Lmao.
I love your comment!! That was a good one, cute cape.

Sieffy13 asking the real questions

Jonathan Sieff I'm sure that even if they cut out the beginning scene you would be complaining about why she randomly decided to make a cape.
going into this, i was prepared to be underwhelmed, but like... dang
Yeah that’s pretty cute and looks easy to make. Thanks
Awesome, just what I was looking for!
Super nice cape and cute video :3
Thanks!
Your just adorable! Great video!
Make it longer
longer capes are beautiful too

Owl house cosplayers are gonna take note for Halloween I’m about to make one rn

Yes, because fabric glue holds up under stress
what kind of things are you doing wearing this cape
Love the tutorial but a windy day or high moisture one and the fabric glue doesn't work. after you measure your arm from the neck, do you mark the measurement on a square fabric, 2 folding or 4 folding?
Really cute🌸

Good work. Thank you for sharing.
OMG - I love it!!
Is the end cape a half circle or a full circle?
Half circle. You cut a half circle out of two layers of fabric and then sew/glue them together
At least you proved 2/4 capes are decent. Still, 3/4 work best, I think
nice very simple.. thank you
Love it!!! I need to make one! So easy too!👍❤
Would this work with velvet fabric?
I'm thinking of making sky CoTL capes ;(
This is rly cool
Is this only for girls?. Or boys can wear it too?.
Boys have worn them throughout history as well with varring details and lengths. Goggle kinsale cloaks, nightwatchmen cloak colonial cloak, and British soldiers cloaks for inspiration. Also Nordic fur ones are very nice.
Of course!
I screamed in horror at the fabric glue.
This is great! Thank you.
Ah yes, time for plague doctor cosplays.

Don't make this from felt, it will be itchy as all hell. If you make it from wool it'll be so much better.
So yeah, just tried this....for a fashionable look, meh. For function in keeping warm...not a damn chance in heaven, hell or earth.
