The ford gt and the chevelle sounds amazing!! like!!
Don't forget the 64 Fairlane Thunderbolt!!!!
My grandfather had gifted to me his '68 Shelby GT-350 on my 21st birthday in '06, and I can tell you that for me there is no greater honor than getting a chance to own a true piece of automotive history, it's just rolling art.. Now I've literally been offered great money over the years of ownership but I just won't do it no matter how much it's worth!.. My grandfather was and will always be my hero and every single time I'm out driving I swear he's riding shotgun with me smiling ear to ear.. Some say if you love something, let it go. But I can't or won't let it go because it just really means that much to me and there truthfully is no price in cash or a check that will change my mind EVER!.
Edit: Also the car is still in mint condition and has just 67,964 miles on it as of yesterday.. It has It's original engine and transmission with only having the regular maintenance work done to it. I'm really happy having the opportunity to own such an amazing car seriously. I do take people for rides quite a bit because why hog all the fun for myself lol.
You are 1 of the few that understands your car is actually history and on top of that a family heirloom that should stay in your family forever!
@@chrisshank3632 I do think of it as family and automotive history, and that it will outlive me for sure.. In the 13yrs I've owned it now I have only put 11,126 miles on it. I drive it and would love to always but I'm really trying hard to keep it mint and all original.
@@imhappyandyou.4003 I have a couple old muscle cars but nobody that appreciates them.... maybe I'll have a grandson some day that does and they will be his! Enjoy your grandpa's car and thanks for sharing.
The Ford GT-40, hands down, is the best sports/supercar America has ever produced in my opinion. The 2005-2006 reissue model is commanding premium prices now..the collector value has reached stratospheric levels. The newest incarnation of the street version of the Ford GT, while much more refined and a definite stronger performer than the original style, just doesn't have the 'panache' of the original design. I heard that engine wail of the Fort GT-40 original and it just raised goosebumps. What a car.
These are so dam beautiful and amazing they don't build them any more these engines are sweet.too..excellent job thank you so much
Your welcome Happy New Year to you and your family ..
I haven't seen a superbird cruising around since the 1980's. That was the car plymouth used in hopes of swaying richard petty back to their camp. It worked.
The white "bird" was a 440 NOT a Hemi.
Yep Yep
over 1900 were built
It wasn't a factory color for 1970, either. It looked to be a cream color and that was not for Superbirds.
Only 135 were hemi's.
I believe that there were a lot more than (20) 1970 Chevelles SS LS6's made, check your figures.
I never drove one, but I actually think I rode in at least 20 of them.
1969 Pontiac Trans Am convertible - 8 made (4 manual, 4 automatic). More modern, the 1998 Pontiac Firebird Formula convertible - 2 made.
I dislike these cobbled together videos with distinctly dubious info in them. It's what causes people to go spouting things they know nothing about.
Exactly. I know for sure there are some Chrysler that are more rare.
Robert, I agree with you. They want you to believe that these cars were limited to 123 MPH.
It seems to be all bullshit. I have been faster in lesser cars. 1966 Impala clocked at 131.
Fact
Robert Frias well then you better learn i guess lol
SamofCR I have a 71 ford maverick it goes 143
The majority of MK1 Ford GT 40 were 289s. Early prototypes were 260s, but the "production" cars were 289s. A better choice for Fairlane would be the 1964 Thunderbolt. Chevy made many Chevelle SS LS6s. Ford offered the 427 in Mustangs in early 1968 only. I saw one on the showroom floor in 1968.
Ford the Second went to Leman with the 289 Ford engine and got his ASS handed to him. By Enzo! That how the 427! Got in the GT 40's. Then they wipped Enzo's Ass! Long live! Foyt! The best driver next to Carroll Shelby. Shawn
The first sbFord v8 was in 62 Fairlane only or AcCobra.
Mustang with a 427.....there was only 1 built, and it's a 67. However, there were a few hundred Mercury Cougar GT-Es that were fitted with the 427 in 68.
Mark Dubois, Sorry Mark I saw it with my own eyes in 1968 on the showroom floor at Dub Richardson Ford. Acapulco blue, GT, white deluxe interior, plus other options. We had a 68 also in Acapulco blue, but a 289 mama’s car. We went to that dealership fairly often, we knew the family.
@@markw208 According to performance.ford.com, the 427 was offered as an option in 68. No one bought them, however there were a few hundred Cougar GT-Es were sold.
The lone 427 equipped Mustang sold last year for $2.2M at auction. It is white in color and it is known as a 67 Shelby Mustang GT500 Super Snake.
The defense rests!
Missed the 1969 Pontiac Trans Am
Coupes 689 produced
Convertibles 8 produced
Yeah I was surprised to see an LS6 Chevelle on the list Chevy actually made 4,475 of them in 1970 alone. Not very rare in my opinion.
I think the Camaro COPO it's more rare than the Yenko...I guess. And the Boss 429 it's more rare than the GT500...or not?
Plymouth Superbird is my true love! Since I'm Brazilian and we don't have this dream car here and I don't have money to buy one, well, I bought two of them to race in my slot car track. And of course that one is exactly like Richard Petty's Superbirb. This is not a car, is my dream that came true. And the truth is that I never saw one in real life, only in videos and racing games...and slot cars lol
Awesome video!
Love that cowl induction on that ls454
😈😈😈
Yenkos did not get "Corvette 427s." Some good looking cars but not very accurate information.
That Stanley sounded the best. Cam specs please.
Fantastic video: love this channel
They also forgot the 1969 Shelby GT350 Convertible 4 spd. Less than 100 vehicles produced in this variety. This was about "Rarest", not "Fastest" American Cars.
Very beautiful amazing looking cars beautiful amazing colours
Thats a 390 not a 427 67' Fairlane.
Love everything about the old muscle cars, the look, the sound, but I love what technology has done that I could take my 15 GTI back in time and give them a run for their money! Great video, keep 'em coming.
Cicero no it wouldn't, not even close
What about the 2 mercury cougar eliminators?
This is the US of A! When these cars were sold they were sold as a 440, 427, 289, whatever. No liters were ever mentioned or heard of then. And then on some of the ones you did put the c.i. it was wrong a 254 or 425, what?? It was a nice look at some VERY nice cars. But you would have been better off leaving the info off.
In 1968 you could go to Ford and order a car with a 427, 428 or a 429, all are different but all are 7 liter engines.
Ahh yes, the British imperial system is so much more American than the European system...
When you break it down at the end - 20 HP AND 127 MPH top speed - Stanley Steamer = badass!
427 cu. ins.w/ 390. My bud had one. Sold for $65! Try getting one for 40K. Lotsa luck!
I think near the end of 2 Fast 2 Furious I think Paul Walker drives a Yenko Camaro.
Yep he race against it and won for pink's. It's a slang term meaning if he wins he gets the car. It was a 1969 model. The orange car was a 70 Hemi Challenger R/T.
All very cool, but the coolest is the horn on the Stanley. An actual steam whistle !!!
Good stuff!
i owned a 1967 mercury comet capri with the 427-425 hp.there were only 6 built and three including mine came to canada,
You forgot the Buick GS stage 2 (68-71) and forgot the Camaro Copo (1969 only, only 50 made).
Yeah, there are a few cars he forgot... '71 GTO Judge Convertible (17 made) for instance. I'm sure there are other cars out there with production runs in the hundreds. This was an ok list i think though.
originalpunkSxE Yup!, you're right!!, but then again I'm thinking about the El Camino SS 454 (1970-71), 4 speed, then again is it a car or truck???😶
Good point! I guess it all depends on what the government classified it as... I used to have an AMC Eagle that was emissions classified as a light duty truck lol.
1973 ford mach 1 with sunroof, only 4 made!
MEV that's a good one! Also saw a RUclips video on the only '71 Boss 302 which was found and is being restored.
Always good to see the classic Hot Rod put a little rubber on the quarter panels
Fantastic video - thanks so much!
the info on the 1970 Chevelle LS6 is all wrong - at 2:00 it lists the 1970 Chevelle LS6 as a 452 cu in engine, when it is actually 454! It also says only 20 units produced which is way off. It is believed there were around 4,475 LS6 Chevelle's produced. They might have gotten 20 from how many convertibles were LS6 cars, who knows. The engine in the video doesn't have the proper air cleaner assembly that seals to the cowl hood...I guess they cobbled together some videos of different cars.
at 3:30 the 1967 Fairlane 500 R-Code also lists incorrect production # of 57, when it's actually 153 per a quick search. The video also lists 425 cu in, when it's a 427 - then the hood pops open to reveal a 390 as listed on the air cleaner sticker...
at 4:53 1969 Shelby GT500 says 1000 units - when another search shows 1536 fastbacks were produced per ClassicPonycars.com , maybe they were partaking of some medicinal marijuana or something when they put this together - LOL I didn't even double-check the rest...but hey, you got almost 200k views so far so what do I know...
Try making a rare American sports car vid sometime! Bocar, Devin, Bangert, Victress, Woodill, Chaparral, Cheetah, Cunningham, oh there is a lot. Some were available as kits or finished cars, making each one unique.
Fewer than eight Studebaker Avantis left the factory with the supercharged "R3" engine, and only one Studebaker Commander. The normally aspirated "R4" was even rarer.
IAM not sure about how some of your information wasn't checked before it was put in a video but you got a number of it wrong
In European cars, I have a 1949 Bentley Mk VI here in Texas. There were only 5208 of them made.
The Steamer from 1906 being able to hit 127 mph is incredible. There were even effective electric cars being produced a century ago.. Was it the oil barons that ruined everything for their almighty dollar ?
What about the 1969 Buick GS 400 stage 1 convertible. 212 were made
If I remember correctly, that red chevelle was on a road in Indiana. That’s the only state I remember being called corn field county, and so many roads being squared off. Enjoyed most of my time there.
The beautiful one here that I like was that Stanley, that is one gorgeous car.
The mark 1 gt40s had 289s in them then the mark 2 came and had a 427 big block side oiler
A Thumbs Up Liked.
I do remember seeing a video about a 69 COPO Chevelle. Only 2 made in Tuxedo Black, but I'm not really sure how many they made total
y'all could have said more about the Stanley......it's not like we've seen them before....
67 Fairlane was not a 427 it definitely was a 390 besides the markings you can hear it's not a 427 always was a distinct sound difference between the two growing up around both NOTHING sounds or moves like a 427 FORD NOTHING
Studebaker Avanti R3 always misses these lists.
That's because as much as they are loved they are not considered a muscle car
Forgot the AMC Rebel Machine, only made them one year...1970.
Or the SC/Rambler
Saw one in a Lowe’s parking lot once, fuckin wild.
When I was a child, a neighbor had a lime green Plymouth Superbird. I vividly remember him doing burnouts in the street and smashing the car up within about two months of getting it new.
The 1969 Ford Talladega should get a mention if you're going to include the wing cars. Only approximately 400 made and a true production car.
He doesn't mention the t birds that came with a 428 cobra jet 😂
T-Birds came with the 428 Thunderjet, never heard of a 428 CJ in a T-Bird.
@@Johnnycdrums A few actually came with a 427 center oiler in 1966 but yes no 428 CJ in a Tbird.
Hey ! How come we didn't get to see the mach1 cyclone eliminator on the thumbnail ?!?
8,773 - Z15 SS454 options ordered (4,298 base LS5 plus 4,475 optional RPO LS6)....(1) In 1970 there is a dispute as to whether any 454 LS6s where equipped with aluminum heads. A respected source contends that no 454 were built with aluminum heads according Tonawanda records. According to said source, Tonawanda records indicate the L89 (aluminum head) option was cancelled and not replaced at the end of L78 production in November of 1969.
However, some have reported that the CRS (aluminum head) code has appeared on engine blocks. It is also reported that one individual has a warranty protect-o-plate card showing the CRY code.
As I suspected, you missed at least one rare American performance car! The 62-64 Studebaker Gran Turismo Hawks! Not many were made, even more rare are those produced with the optional Avanti engines available in the '63-64 models! I had a very rare, one of a kind, with the Avanti R-3 supercharged engine capable of pegging the 160 MPH speedometer. A great highway cruiser, very stable. 80 MPH was what I referred to as "Snooze cruise"! Would average about 22 MPG at that speed because it was just loafing! Owned the car for 30 years, put 240,000 mile on it. Selling it is one of my greatest regrets.
shelby daytona coupe.... HEMI ´cuda convertible...
boer harms right about that!!
I got 3 cylinder Saturn that smokes the tires too. Dumbest thing to power brake the car !
My Dad had a 67 Ford Fairlane, but it was no comparison to that R Code.
Forgot the 302 Boss Mercury Cougar, of which only 2 are known to be built..
But they put the 427 engine in a few Cougar's. Also the 428 too. Shawn
Are you kidding. Do your research you are mistaken. The 302 was probably the standard cubic inches.
@@shawnbeck2303 Right Shawn. They were called the Cougar X if I'm not mistaken
What model year? I have a colleague with a matched pair of 1970 Mustang Boss 302 and 1970 Cougar Eliminator Boss 302.
I notice that these American cars all have big engines (some greater than 5L) but they don't have a great max speed but a great acceleration.
David Jackson most were low geared for faster acceleration at a cost of top speed.
That's what they're FOR; pushing ya back in the seat.
They were geared for faster acceleration. Also, with that large of displacement with a non-symmetrical firing order makes the redline very low. They didn't make balanced engines very well. (Keeps the cost low, so the average Joe can get a tire-smoking monster.) Therefore even in top gear, you top out in the 120's.
That's why they are called muscle cars! Big engine, medium size cars. GOT comes to my mind! Shawn
tanks for video
Can you make a video on RC engines starting , nitro , petrol etc
Its amazing cars
Thanks, interesting overview: hopefully, facts double -checked.. Actually, many rare Models , Specials, Short Run COPO-type,and Dealer Preps.......
Wrong information on the Superbird, Plymouth produced 1,800 of these.
The old gt500 gets my blood sizzling
Not a really accurate display of actual factory production rarities.
The rarest American car is one that gets over 30 miles to a gallon.
every one knows dodge viper is coming on to this list 50 years later lol
There was no mention of the rarest of all...the few Pinto's that didn't blow up. But seriously, that Shelby's interior sound was awesome.
You have PINTO mixed up with VEGAS
@@MrWildwilly48 Oh no no. The Pinto had a gas tank mounted such that in a rear end collision it could rupture and catch fire. I had a Bobcat which was the twin to the Pinto. My brother had a Vega. These cars, (Pinto, Bobcat, Vega) were ok ... just ok ... when new but they weren't designed to last long.
What about 1972 Pontiac 455 HO firebird formula? If I recall there were only 227 made.
GT 40 had me worried,, then I realized it was probably England..
Good.
You forgot the 64 Ford Thunderbolt !
00:48 I love that sound! Racing cam?
Anybody else notice the Fairlane has a 390....not a "425"
Brian Pedersen I think the Fairlane 500XL "GT" only came with a 427 (7.0L) in 67??
Sure did!
Yes I did, too.
Brian Pedersen also the hemi superbird was a 440 car
Brian Pedersen yeah I kind of laughed when I saw that too LOL
Steam as our alternative? Who let you out of Colney Hatch?
The issue with this information is that a lot isnt accurate. Much of the horsepower ratings were understated in the 60s and 70s. The 440 superbird had a higher top speed and the hemi 426 topped at 202, approximately. The 69 dodge Daytona topped at 204 due to aerodynamics. Many of these cars are faster and quicker than many people believe.
Where is the 62 Grand Prix 421. I believe only 16 made
i also built a baldwin/motion vega.[ was told only 12 were built]these cars were guaranteed to run 10 seconds in a quarter mile in the drag strip or you got your money back my wife had one ride in it and she made me sell it in case i killed myself.
So, the "7-litre Fairlane" you had in here was actually a 6.5 litre 390 cubic inch... not to mention, the second GT500 you cut to that had the startup was not a 1969, but a 1967... a completely different car.
that's sad... the internet does have alot of clip of the real deal
You missed 67nova l79 327/350 hp only 6 made
I have the only 69 GS Buick stage 1 in Canada They only made 800 of these cars .sThe stage 1 is the third fastest car made off the assembly line. The Shelby Cobra. Is fist then the 427 Corvette next then the Stage one Buick
There were a lot more superbirds built the Daytona is the rare one
Yeah. The video is incorrect. About 135 Daytonas and around 183 Superbirds were made
i also owned a 1969 hurst amx.52 were built and two came to canada.my car was destroyed in a fire in 1975.
1971 zr2 corvette steel cities grey on tan leather 1 of 1. Only 12 made
Personally I would never risk that LS6 Chevelle on a cornfield road! Lined with telephone poles. Why what could go wrong???
The GT40 had a 289. Not a "254.9".
But the 302 didn't debut till 1968. This was 1964 GT MK1
5:13, not a 69
That's what I thought. I'd say a '67
1932 ford coupe was not on there..... not low production just not very many of them left anymore.
6:34 I thought it was a coffin, rest in peace Stanley, I will birng flowers to your grave😥😥😥⚰️⚰️✝️✝️
You dropped the ball on this one. What about the 4 Dodge Coronet convertibles that were built in a year with 440 4 speed, is that not rare? AMC rebel machines are hard to find, so are some of those AMX! To me anything with a factory Maxwedge should be rare, like that 330 drag car dodge made with the aluminum front clip. There was another comment about 8 convertible Pontiacs in one year!
some of these cars you don't see today.
What about the Dodge Charger Daytona? Only 503 0f these were produced.
the superbird was the very first 200 mph production car
Stormy Clason *daytona
yes but the daytonas are much harder to find
@@stormyclason9173 and the video is about?...
Something
Woops! Didn't look first. You already did!
I don't think either Camaros shown were Yenkos...
The white superbird in video wasn't a hemi
What about the zl1 camaro???
Where’s the XA GT-HO Phase IV? Only 4 of those rolled off the Geelong Ford Factory before Ford Australia could kill it off because of the Supercar Scare.
Yanks are only interested in their own cars. Yep the mighty 1972 XA Ford Falcon 351 GTHO Phase IV that car would have reached 168 MPH. Also I wonder about the rare Pommy Fords too the Ford GT Capris and Cosworth Escorts.
I have a model full scale of Jack Brabhams 72 XA Ford Falcon GTHO Phase IV. The only road car ever built.
Phantasy Boy Nice! I’m probably gonna buy a diecast model of the GT-HO Phase IV. If the XA GT-HO Phase IV went into production, that would be sick.
@@misfiring_system Too right that would have been the equivalent of the Ford Cosworth Sierra of the 80s. The XA GTHO Phase IV would have been the most dominant Touring Car in the world for the 70s. Allan Moffat would have won 3 or 4 Bathhurts and Championships in it if the XB Falcon would have held off for a few years. Good luck in getting your official Die Cast GTHO Phase IV model.
the mustang is super amazing!
i rather have 67 Fairlane...
julemanden uden gaver well he probably didn’t even have you in mind when he voiced his opinion.
Rite away it says hemi superbird then describes a 440??
