The taxes that Ruto is pushing are based on examples of countries that have a large middle income class. Such taxes in these countries are manageable and they are usually a very small percentage of the value of the item being taxed or fees being imposed. The problem in Kenya is that the vast majority of the population are poor. Such taxes cannot work. Ruto should concentrate on growing the economy so as to grow the middle class that can afford such taxes. Increasing taxes does not grow an economy. Additionally, the corruption levels in Kenya are so high such moneys just end up in rogue politicians and bureaucrats pockets.
