French woman keep their figures, it makes such a difference! It’s sad seeing so many obese women here in the US, especially if they are very young. However talked up as fashionable “curves” might be, their self-esteem and confidence takes a huge hit and the extra weight takes at least a decade off their lives. I wish Americans wouldn’t promote such obesity, I love “body acceptance”, so long as it promotes a healthy weight and lifestyle, too. In my case, for example, have to accept that I’ll never have a very defined waist, but I do maintain a healthy weight. It’s not easy, but it it’s hardly impossible, either. Everyone who wants to: keep trying! It can take a while to find what works for you, but keep at it.
Agree! Most of all re weight and health. Thinking about it and our hunter gatherer ancestors sole purpose was to roam from place to place to find food. That is what food really is…sustenance. Not that we cannot treat ourselves once in a while, but when we overdo it all the time and/or have a high sugar & high junk/fast food diet, we loose the reason why we put food into our mouths, to nourish our bodies at a cellular level…to sustain us. I make most of what I eat (love to cook), and make sure I eat heavy fruits, vegetables and healthy fats, fish and mostly chicken & turkey meats. I’m 64 and 10 lbs within my goal weight, without exercise.
When I wear a long button up or a blouse with tailored pants or pencil skirt everyone asks if I’m going to work. They are surprised when I reply no this is what I feel comfortable in and wear on my off days. It’s easy to be sun safe when wearing chic clothes and I feel more inspired to be productive. I’m working hard to instil self care and refinement into my children’s lives. Thank you for your videos especially from Australia.
Beautiful video Alice! Thank you!🙏🏼💝 To me French Chic is practical, minimalist but sophisticated and feminine. Comfort is super important for me but we also need to look presentable and clean. You’re right- vulgarity is not the way! Quality and class is always first!
Class is becoming an over used word. It really should be about self care and love. I notice more and more women are no longer preparing meals for the family or even themselves as our work culture has become unbalanced and more and more of us are finding fresh food overpriced and in some cases not plentiful compared to processed food which contains sugar and salt. When I was a child growing up in the UK I hardly knew or saw anyone who was over weight and now it is normal to see so many young women under 40 years of age terribly over weight. Vulgarity is pushed in our faces at every turn since sex sells and when it stops selling a return to modesty will be valued once more. French women from a young age have been brought up to value womanhood and generally do practice self care....and clothes & food is just a part of it......
OMG Alice, you had to show the Kardashians and Jeff Bezos's fiancé, the cream of the crop of fashion faux pas in US. No one could showcase less taste, and people look up to these so called socialites. 🤔
It annoys me that small chested and under calorie eating bodies are celebrated as chic. The low v neck dress looks chic on a flat chested woman yet a full busted women is attacked as tacky. As someone with an hour glass figure yet a size 0 I will not cover my breast when the dress almost all dresses show cleavage
It's not just the clothes, the figure, the hair style or the jewelry but body language. I saw a woman walking in the airport with a trench coat and an LV Neverfull. I noticed the way she flung her hair and the way she walked. Yes, she was French, despite the Monogram Neverfull, that apparently (according to some) French women never carry.
I've been to Europe small cities and big cities. In less tourist areas, people dress very casually, and not so worried about the fashion. Same for U.S. I just came back from Chicago. In city center, all men and women looked incredible in their wardrobe. Stylish and yet simple. I've also seen many women in Paris wear very provocative clothing. Outside of Milan also. Small city: jeans, t-shirts, and leggings. So, it's very very subjective.
I left you a long detailed comment and I don't know what happened to it, but what I said was, I grew up in Southern California and my mother and my grandmother would NEVER leave the house unless they were dressed up, made up and accessorized, no matter where they went. So from a young age I picked up on that and once I was older, I would never leave the house not put together. Maybe part of it was insecurity in that I always felt the need to wear makeup and look my best, but I just never would let that go. When I had both of my children in the hospital I had makeup on and when people saw the pictures, they thought it was rather interesting to say the least lol... most of them said, wow, you looked fabulous, I looked a wreck when I gave birth! At younger age I was one of those people who dressed overly sexy until right as I was hitting 50 years old. That is when I started to desire a more classy and dignified look. I renovated my wardrobe and started to take on a much more classy and chic style. I'm 55 now and so I'm happy to see this type of content as it is harder for us women as we age to accept that we're not as young as we used to be and that dressing overly sexy is not as ideal anymore. My grandma lived to 92 and my mother is 92 now but transitioned to a nursing home last year. Just a few months before she went in there, I took her see her dentist and when I picked her up to go, she was dressed to the nines, accessorized with all her jewelry, makeup everything, as if we were going to shop on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills! And for the record, we've NEVER shopped there! Anyway, I am encouraged to see these elegant women in your videos, especially your mom and grandmother! Merci, mon amie, for always sharing this wonderful content with all of us...I'll look forward to the next video! 🥰🥂
I would love to see your beautiful Mom and Grandma in their French chic outfits! I’m closer to your Mom’s age than yours, but I love your style, so I’m sure I’ll love theirs, too. My French colleagues I worked with 40 years ago, that always looked so great, were probably the biggest influence on my own style, I remember everything they taught me. Their outfits were simple and elegant and they said they actually had quite small, but classic, wardrobes, and everything was beautiful quality. I love watching style videos by chic, genuine, French women like you.🙂
They both have beautiful skin, they must have always protected it!

Excellent video. I would love to hear more about nuance. I realize that is probably the hardest thing to explain and "teach," but that seems to be what sets apart French women chic from others.
Moms, grandmas, young, and old. Appropriate dressing is for EVERYONE. On this channel it’s about French style in particular, but everybody needs to make an effort when getting dressed!!
Alice, you always look chic and beautiful. You bring such a great sense of beauty and style into your videos. I like watching them. I also bought Annick Goutal perfume after seeing your video and I am so happy with the scent. It’s uncomfortable. Take care
Love French fashion. The French look so elegant without having to do the most unlike us Americans. Also, a lot of French people put effort into maintaining their figures unlike Americans who think it’s ok to be obese. It can make Americans look frumpy in clothes.
The French women are gorgeous. However the fashion industry is very expensive to afford. Thank you for pointing out that we have a lot of options and don’t have to pay thousands for purse!
As an older woman with some life experience, I wish I could convey to the younger set that covering up your curves is way more “sexy” than the bare all look.
I totally agree that less is more and wearing every single logo made to man and woman in an outfit looks awful. I bought my first pair of pearl earrings about 3 years ago and wear them every single day. While I do have bags with logo, I find I do not reach for them a lot and tend to use bags that the logo is either not visible or discrete. Social Media shows an unrealistic image of how you should dress, wrists full of Cartier, van clef bracelet and the desperate attempts of women trying to Birkin to Kelly bag. What has the world come to .
Alice can you please make a video reacting to all those Russian girls with extreme volume hair getting out of their Rolls Royce cars in Monaco, thank you very much. 🌟
Oh la la Alice, la famille et vous etes bien elevees!!! Je sais que les livres sur etiquette ou le savoir-vivre abondent en France! Merci mille fois pour vos videos! J'adore ca!!!
Actually, nowadays Italian women dress in a much more stylish and elegant way than French women...I particularly found nothing so elegant and stylish in the streets of Paris when I was there...
When someone goes to the hair dresser once a week what is the cost? Getting a good hair cut costs me $150-180 with tip (I’m in Toronto) is this what French women pay weekly???
What part of France are you from? I’m very interested in Normandie and Brittany, where it’s cooler and I’m thinking of renting there for a summer to see some of the country and to escape the brutal California heat. I’m planning to treat my niece, who just graduated from university, to a trip to Paris, at least, then on to Greece, where our Dad is from. Sadly, at almost 95, he’s now too old and frail to accompany us, but naturally, he will advise us. Do you have any recommendations for non-hot summer locations in France?
I enjoyed your video. I agree that women do not look chic or stylish being half naked. It bothers me on lady skaters. Some of their dresses are ridiculously scant.
Very interesting. I have to say though, I finally got to Paris a few years ago. Found absolutely nothing special about how the woman dress, in fact they were rather bland. Top spots for fashion, chic, and attractive women are Toronto, New York, Tel Aviv, Rome, Dubai.
Parisians all dress the same, no imagination . A long held false myth that they are ALL well dressed. "French women can be chic but British have class" said Karl Largerfeld and he should know. Best dressed are ITALIAN by FAR !!!
How would you define French chic today and what do you do everyday to look chic and elegant? let me know ! xoxo Alice
