11 year, 600 million dollars. If he asks that, someone will pay it.
Ohtani is a perennial MVP if he stays healthy and is handled properly by manager and organization. The Angels have done right by him in that regard over the last two seasons, and Ohtani has remained free of serious injuries while excelling at both pitching and hitting. I hope for his health more than his payday. I think he cares much more about winning and the right situation with his team and city rather than making the most money. I think NY would not be as much to his liking--constant media harassment and unreasonable expectations, bad weather, not his preferred surroundings, etc. But I have no doubt he'll be in line for a huge contract especially if he continues to perform at a high level into this next season. I just don't think that's what he cares most about or that I care most about. Still, he deserves the money as a measure of his value to a team and MLB overall.

the angels are a joke. they have two of the best players in baseball history and they can't even finish with a winning record. shohei knows this better than anybody; he already has two feet out the door. he's just waiting for the dodgers to toss him that $750M contract.
@@oldfrend they are rebuilding their farm system after the pujols and randon trades
A year ago, I predicted Shohei Ohtani would be the first BILLION dollar contract player in baseball. I was told I was nuts because of Ohtani's heritage where honor means everything. To which I thought...maybe...but doubtful.
In his defence is being a career Angel even a big honour?

@@londzale3163 Me thinks so too! Shohei and the Big Apple are made for each other - both are Showtime(s).

It means nothing to me because I already know Otanei is getting 400 million minimum because he can pitch and hit both at unbelievable levels
He should get $800 million...$400 for hitting and fielding and $400 for pitching.
Teams are already preparing their budget to pay ohtani around 65 mill/yr contract And that’s how you can tell who the actual most Valuable player should have been for 2022.
I think Joe D once said if he was playing curently he'll just go to the owners office and say Hey partner, that's what Superman Shohei should do instead of going to general manager to talk contract
there getting rid of the shift this year, instead of hitting .275 he'll hit over .300 this year. Pay him 80M a year.
Shohei will be the first $1B contract pro athlete.
I just need him to be there until after June, been able to see the rangers when he comes into town, would like to do that one last time before he leaves.
The last 40-year-old shortstop was almost certainly Derek Jeter. He turned 40 during his last season in 2014.
and that was circumstance-dependent, because he would have been moved from the position much, much sooner if it was any other player-team configuration. He couldn't play SS worth a lick for at least five years. Omar Vizquel was the only recent guy who didn't need to be moved by that point.
In 6 years the Correa contract gonna look small
the only example I have of someone raking as an old dude is david ortiz, he was raking. He was also a DH so I think that's the transition for some of these guys.
Big TEAMS are already preparing their budget right now to pay Ohtani 50+million/yr contract ……. Nothing says more about “most valuable player”than teams willing to offer the most ridiculous contract ever in all sports. This is why this year’s mvp is a fraud. When teams are willing to make you the highest paid player ever that should tell you why Ohtani is the real mvp.
Shohei Ohtani is true MVP who does’t need to be fed Goldilocks balls.
He is a honorable man who does't need to be judged by money.
Shots fired!
I love Rich I don't even like baseball but his show is captivating
Imagine if Ohtani had a guaranteed 10 years at 50 with an opt out option after every single season. Total Control, full no trade. IF he's not happy with the team, he can opt out.
Please Buy The Angels Steve Balmer. Fans will support personally and financially.
steve ballmer was one of the worst owners in history. worst ceo ever as well. you do not want him, he will not spend money.
@@Tom0000 Clippers say otherwise. At least the Angels have a chip.
No Balmer. His screaming routine is obnoxious. The Clippers still haven't won a championship yet.
@@onespeedlite They've been further than Angels. We haven't been in the playoffs in damn near a decade. I'll take his screaming if it comes with passion.
Conspicuous by their absence from all the big spending this offseason is one team. A team that has had $100M come off their payroll by the way. Curious to see what the Dodgers are brewing. They've proven to be smarter than most of these teams and aren't diving into the pool to hand out any 11 year deals.
I hope the Dodgers end up with Ohtani, because I want to see him compete in the post season every year.
I’m hoping my M’s are being cheap now to go after Ohtani next year it would make sense. I know when he first came over here. The Mariners really wanted him badly. They just didn’t have enough international saving money at the time
The Mariners, Dodgers and Mets are some of favorites to get the modern day Babe Ruth. Remember ShoTime is gonna be only 29 and that's the perfect prime for athletes, he can become the Greatest Baseball player of all time if he keeps this up for another 7 or 8 years, that's aImost a decade of the Greatest perfomance not just in Baseball but in all of professional Sports, that's what the next team whoever signs him could be getting 🐐
I live near Seattle- a ferry ride away. I would take a ferry to see Ohtani. The M's love Ichiro. The owners would be smart to sign him. Ichiro created some love in Seattle.
Goatani is easily gonna her 500M.
Who cares what you think after you've deemed what Ohtani did this season worthless in comparison to Judge? Go back to talking about that unclutch cheater a d leave Ohtani out of your mouth.
AMEN! 💯💯
👏🏻👏🏻
at minimum one of these contracts
12/480M 40M per year
13/530M 40M per year
12/600M 50M per year
13/650M 50M per year
my prediction is 13/530
One thing most of American baseball fans don’t know about the salary issue of MLB Japanese players, they got tons of advertisements n rights pouring in Japan. More than the salary they got from the mlb teams. Like ichiro, matsui etc.
Negotiation starts from $50 mil AAV for 10 years and go from there.
Ohtani is a cross between David Ortiz and Justin Verlander....650+ million dollar contract.
More like Darryl Strawberry and Dwight Gooden...of the 1986 Mets, when they won it all...Cohen is old enough to remember that, perhaps as a college student or a high school teen.
I cannot agree more Ohtani might worth 730 millions.
Still using Ohtani for clickbait, huh. LMAO. Keep talking about your Goldilocks MVP instead! 🤣
He did talk about shohei, you must’ve lost the ability to actively listen.
Still better than riding LIV tour coattails all summer.
One thing about Shohei Ohtani that I like is.
Shohei Ohtani want to WIN. So there's a big chance he go to Team that always WIN FIRST Money Second.
That's true. He wants to win anyway
As an Angels fan I would love to see us keep Ohtani. Unfortunately I don't see him wanting to stay with the Angels. He has told them he wants to win and until we get an owner who is willing to spend like the Mets owner its not going to happen. I feel bad for Trout who probably wishes now he didn't sign that extension. If we can't sign him before the trade deadline then Perry to me has no choice but to trade him and get something for him instead of letting him walk for nothing but a draft pick. I think in the end he ends up with the Dodgers.
Well, we might be getting that owner by the beginning of the season
mike trout will be like tim salmon
Uncle Stevie bringing Shohei to Queens... And can't wait to see him in that True Blue and Orange 💙🧡💙🧡💙... He's obsessed with him... So refreshing to go from Cheap and dumb Wilpons to Stevie Cohen.... Pure bliss
If anyone can do it it's gonna be Uncle Stevie and don't forget the role Billy Eppler might play
at this point, not sure how small market teams are even still in business.
Funny that most people talk about my money when ohtani just wants to play ball.
Ortiz, Bonds, Edgar Martinez......thats about it and Bonds had help from an extra complete breakfast. I mean theres probably a few more. Carlos Delgado and Fred Mcgriff were alright till age 36-38. Uh.......yea I dunno man. Its waaaaay more likely to end up like Pujols or Miguel Cabrera's sad end.
Aaron, Bonds, D. Ortiz,
Nothing because market could change next year.
Bidding for Ohtani starts at 10 years/$500M next off-season. Perhaps with an opt-out after every year.
Shohei is easily worth $50 mil a year
His contract is going to be insane. I mean it's up to him. Completely. He can say whatever number he wants. How are you going to argue with him?
And can I just say, the double ads back to back is getting real tiresome RUclips.
I just want to see the biggest contract in sports history
🙏
I’ll take a third of that!! 😆
We need em in dodger blue
Is that why Justine Verlander only got a 2 years deal?
David Ortiz could still rake… his feet had failed him though. That’s why he called it a career.
Wasn't he stabbed in the liver by some you Columbian in that bar after retirement?
Hear that Bill DeWitt? Lol
He will be a met next season 10yr 500 mil dollar
Who would have guessed that the Dodgers would become the model for fiscal prudence.
650 million my guess
Is there a reason why the later years pay more than the early years? Why can't teams pay a bulk of the contract in the early years when the player is the most productive? Why does year 8 cost more than year 3?
Ideally, you want to free up extra cap space to place other pieces around him whilst he's in his prime. Of course, knowing what we know now, he's certainly picked a different path, hasn't he?
10 year 550 million
Someone will pay him 500m
Nelson Cruz
10 years 600 million. Will that really not do it?
The reality is something different . Baseball as a whole doesn't make as much money as it spends . Giving huge contracts to the point where no one can afford to go to a game will kill the sport .
What? MLB makes an UNFATHOMABLE amount of money. They have TV deals with Apple, ESPN, Fox, TBS, hell, even RUclips. And the World Series leads primetime ratings year after year.
Ohtani will be a dodger here’s why
1. He wants to win above all else what better then LA he’ll have his opportunity to win because they will be in the post season every year.
2. He has said he will only play for west coast teams because it’s close to Japan and he personally chose California because he likes it here
3. The dodgers will not undervalue him they will give him a blank check break every record for highest paid athlete in history.
Only a matter of time before he’s in dodger blue and I’m rocking his jersey watching him pitch a shutout in the 2024 World Series 🤘
Never happening. You are dreaming and I’m a Dodger fan. Take off your “fan” and understand the Angels will never give the greatest show in baseball to their rival. The Angels will either sign or trade him before the deadline. Never never to the Dodgers. It’s just business
Teams spend easily 25M for a hitter and the same For a pitcher. That’s 50M for both. He is both. So 50 M a year Is actually a bargain. So 14 year 700M? Lol, but seriously that’s what may happen
He is not just any pitcher... he is Cy Young level. Verlander gets $43 million per year. Ohtani is worth $40 million per year as a pitcher. The Yankee's Stanton gets $32 million per year as DH. Miguel Cabrera also gets $32 million. Ohtani is worth another $35 as a hitter. That's $75 million per year. 10 years $750 million is more like it.
Barry bonds is your answer
Was my answer too and these guys knew it but were reluctant to say it because Barry is tainted.
Contracts ain't that big since they're over 10 years
Of course let's wait for the next baseball lock out to find out if the owners care about the money
Ohtani does not like the East coast.
As a pirates fan the wild spending spree just shows just how much rigged the system really is when it comes to free agency and money. Regardless of how shitty Bob Nutting is lol.
Don’t be mad at the the owners who invest in there team. Cheap owners are the problem
The Mets are an example of owners being a problem. They were in a big market but wilpons spent like a mid tier team, it’s simple as that
It's not rigged so much as being a demographics issue. Metro Population: Pittsburgh: 2.37m New York: 19.77m
That's the difference. 8.3 times as many people. Plus Pittsburgh is a football town. Less interest in baseball. So your take is unfounded.
yea its not good. there needs to be a salary floor like the NBA and hard salary cap like hockey simultaneously. Otherwose the rest of the league is just a fuckin farm for New York and LA so we might as well just fold all the other times and put every single player in New York and LA, 4 super teams. Thats it. No point to anyone else playing this year. And Xan Diego apparently.
@@danr154 where did San Diego get all this money anyways? Weren’t they just considered one of the smallest markets just like 5-10 years ago lol? Ik their a better team now but still. Very suspicious.
If Max Scherzer makes 60M. Ohtani will make 85M minimum.
Ohtani isn’t worried about the money he’s getting paid anywhere he goes he wants to win
Shohei is not only money!
The luxury tax needs to go as does the redistribution of money to bums like Arizona and jokeland, they’re not even trying to compete
Don’t speak ill of Doubleday. He brought Piazza here. You can say whatever you want about the Wlpons. Can’t stand them. But the reason Mike Piazza wasn’t meant was because Doubleday insisted and demanded it.
Ted Williams -- 1.096 OPS at age 41.
Darrell Evans hit 40 Hrs at age 40….
Steve Cohen has the tax lawyers to figure out how to use the Mets as a tax write off.
Uncle Stevie will land him he will
Love flushing NY
Have the Red Sox been letting everyone go so they can try to make a run at ohtani?
Ohtani will get $60 million AAV for 10 years. at a minimum... in a Dodgers uniform.
Barry bonds
He’s easily getting over 500 million, rich sounding jealous of the Mets finally huh lmao
I think he would end up with the dodgers, before back when he was coming out of highschool and wanted to play in the mlb right away outta the teams that wanted him back then he chose the dodgers.
I think he's gonna go to the Dodgers, he doesn't seem like an east coast kinda guy and I highly doubt throwing cash at him will be the difference maker, the man lives humbly and just wants to ball for a winning franchise. I heard he gives his paycheck to his mom to handle. So if the Dodgers make him a fair offer, I believe he'll sign with them. This is coming from a Mets fan.
If his mom is a real Asian mom, she would say, "Why you not Yankee yet!"
@@zhoubaidinh403 Ohtani is Japanese not Chinese. Stop grouping Asians as a monolithic culture.
OMAR VIZQUEL
Dodgers better get him. If not, that might be the beginning of the end for the Freidman-Roberts era.
Dodgers' only hope is if Shohei prefers LA as a place, its lifestyle and weather over New York. If not, no chance. Even the Dodgers will not be able to outbid Cohen.
@@Rascallucci 100%. If he's willing to go to the east coast, it's over.
Please. The Dodgers are in great shape. 2 great offensive players. 2 young and accomplished pitchers. One of the best development organizations in baseball. And enough money to fill the gaps. Will they dominate? Maybe not. But they will be a top 5 team for the next few years. And that's more than enough to win a WS. Just ask Atlanta and Washington.
Dodgers or mets Yankees will offer more but i know he will never sign
Huge risk reward with Ohtani. He tweaks an elbow pitching and you just lost "2 players" off your roster. Amazing talent tho.
Ohtani to the Padres next year
Ohtani, L Messi, n MJ. That's the way it is.
I hate to say it, but the Yankees are not the Evil Empire they used to be. If Ohtani is going to New York he’s going to the Mets.
His going to be a dodger!
Ohtani will only win a division title that's all.
Cohen is ruining the game. Where is this going to end? I have said all along there needs to be a cap like the NFL to make this equal and not ruin the sport! It's all about money and not the sport anymore.
It's always been like this.
The difference in spending between the Mets and the rest of the league is a lot smaller than the Yankees’ at the height of their spending. This isn’t anything new.
Shohei=Dodgers
Getting pay and they not even that good 🤷♂️
See if the Mets get him. Better chance at the World Series🌍🌍🌍 I'd take it while I'm still young 😂😂 😀😀😀😀😀⚾⚾⚾⚾⚾⚾⚾
Gonna nee a Geriatric league.👴👴
5years300M.
That’s it.
What are you talking about? He's getting WAY more than that. Why did you even comment this? 🙄
That would be ideal for a TEAM in terms of risk, but not to a player. A player almost always prefers a long, guaranteed contract for financial security.
Rich Eisen, you hypocrite. Your team spends money like they own a printing press. You've got a lot of guts saying that considering the team you root for.
Aaron judge will never win a world series. And I find that hilarious.
And these “small market” teams are gonna pocket the money from the luxury tax and not improve their teams. These selfish owners are the reason why teams have stunk for decades
