    My eyes will never get weary of seeing this man nor my ears will never tire of hearing the beautiful music of Johnny Mathis. God surely gave us an angel on this earth for 76 years now...Behold!

    A particularly moving performance of this classic. Johnny Mathis recorded this during his years at Mercury Records. A most prolific period of his recording career.

    having been born in the 80s, it's hard to believe that such magically whimsical and beautiful performances like Johnny's were accepted as entertainment. had it not been for the rampid racism, this country would have been a paradise.

      There were many many famous black entertainers 20 years before you were born. Johnny Mathis was a big name, but only one of many.

      Looks like it's from Dean Martin's show, maybe b/w 1965-1966. watch their performance of 'take me out to the pool hall'

      It’s from “Lost In The Stars,” a musical by Kurt Weil. The story is taken from the book, “Cry The Beloved Country” by Alan Payton.

    Wow...what a voice!!! I never liked those horrible choir arrangements in the background....what all the shrill ahhhs and ooooos. The voice is timeless, the arrangement is not!! I knew he had range, but not also power!

    It's as if Kurt Weill had written this for Mr. Mathis' range. Remarkable. Was not familiar with it.

      Yes, it's from a musical called LOST IN THE STARS, which isn't performed very often. It's an interesting show, though (I've seen it).

    • @miketackabery7521
      @miketackabery7521 Год назад

      Mathis sings high notes which are not in the composition. The song doesn't require a great range, but Johnny makes his performance memorable by changing it up, and doing so with a great deal of respect for the song. He was a very classy guy.

    Not bad, but a touch overly dramatic for mine. For depth of emotional you can't beat the Elvis Costello version used in the wonderful Italian movie Domenica.
