Love the coach reaction. He stood up for his team and you can see the energy and passion in him. Also props to Darko for publicly hyping up Scottie cause people are overlooking him. Dude is definetly an all star caliber player
Whatever you have to tell yourself. He sure as hell ain't the face of the league. Where was this passion when the Raptors had 22 vs the Cavs 5? Ya'll can pick and choose your outrage though, it's fake either way.
I gotta lot of respect for Scottie, but he will not be on the same caliber as a Luka, Giannis, even Shai and D Book. His coach may have unintentionally put more pressure on Scottie to be a superstar. All star is easy in my eyes, but there are levels at the very very top.

One thing to add. I’m not sure if you’re aware, but the lead ref that game, Ben Taylor, is the same ref Van Vleet called out last year and got fined for. So there’s a history of him being “against” the Raptors. Maybe his wife left him for a Toronto man a few years ago.

Calling a flagrant 1 foul on quickley elbowing is a stretch (offensive foul and move on), having a hand on someone's back not pushing is not a foul but they called that, austin reeves falling over was not a foul. They waited for the outcome of the shot before blowing the whistle. Also prince pushed thaddeus young pretty obviously and not a call. And yes Barnes was fouled at the end there. If the game was relatively called fairly, the outcome would have been different.
First time I heard the coach talk and I’m already on his side lmao bro really riding hard for the team

Yeah I'm a Lakers fan watching the game Scottie himself should've had probably atleast 4 trips to the free throw line and those fouls weren't called
@@kitoyobeni1 My bad. Then we can look at attempts too. The raptors attacked the rim more and the lakers settled for slightly more 3s. I’d be surprised if there wasn’t a correlation between shooting inside the arc and free throws. Peyton is absolutely hilarious. So glad he's sticking around the culture of sports media after retirement
The problem isn’t bad calls, the problem is when the refs dictate games. There’s at least 3 bad calls against the Raps at the end of the game. AD flopped, Scottie got fouled and RJ never touched anything but the ball on that swipe.
I love that Darko stood up for his team in the post game interview, it shows how much he cares about the team, tbh if you only looked at the number of free throw each team had you’d believe that there was a lot of bad calls, but after seeing this vid I only really saw 2 or 3 bad calls

Small correction It was 8 intentional fouls so the ft difference is actually 15-2 before the intentional fouls. Also the main issue was the fouls the Raptors were not getting imo. They drive to the basket and score in the paint more than most teams and just got way too many no calls.
15 fts in a quarter is still kinda crazy lmao that’s on pace for 60 in a game
In a game decided by one point, it doesn't take many incorrect calls/non-calls to decide a game. And there were plenty of them coming down the stretch.
don't you get 2 free throws for each intentional foul in the bonus so wouldn't that be 16 free throws from intentional fouls, meaning the difference was 7-2?

They also tried to do it back in the 2019 playoffs - they did their best to prevent the Larry O'Brien from coming north to Toronto. And since that was the playoffs with only a handful of games on hand every night, the refs were not as bold & brazen as they were in this Lakers game.
The Raptors also had Kawhi & a pretty stacked team that every scheme against them by the refs was simply brushed aside & ignored. Hardly any one noticed all the missed & non-calls. But against a young & inexperienced team playing on the road against LeBron? They never stood a chance. The fact they only lost by a point was an achievement in itself.
The NBA should take a closer look at this game & make a note of the refs who officiated it. The integrity of the league is at stake here - it's gonna be hard to woo back the fans once they decide to turn their back on them.
I love that Darko stood up for his team in the post game interview, it shows how much he cares about the team
Raptors had 70 points in the paint compared to the Lakers 50. Never mind the last 4 minutes of calls.
Which is evidence of what? You don't earn FTs by scoring in the paint, there needs to be actual fouls.

One thing you didn't cover in this video were the uncalled fouls throughout the fourth. You covered the Scottie on Max Christie dunk, but the amount of layup attempts with an abundance of contact against Scottie/Pascal was absurd. Real tough one to watch as a raptors fan, but also something we've seen year after year ever since Raptors/Nets round 1 in 2014.
I remember watching derozan driving to the paint and getting slammed to the ground repeatedly in the playoffs year after year with no calls, meanwhile the raps would breathe near lebron and he’s get to shoot free throws. League hates the raps, always have and always will. It’s a shame
Bro the refs in the warriors series were atrocious as well
@@deo8375 looking back at the games , raptors shot more free throws in 3/5 games. Could be argued that it kinda alternated in that series. I can’t remember the specifics of the fouls or non calls each game obviously, but game for game it rotated which is better than some series for sure
Even in their championship run in 2019, Kawhi was getting mugged under the rim and wasn't getting the calls he deserved. There is something about this Raptors franchise that refs seem to have issues with that they don't extend the same courtesy and respect toward the star players that they would to any other US-based team. They get treated like some small market basement dweller even when they're in good standing during the season.
Quit crying. You lost
Nobody mentioning that AD was being guarded by 6’8 Small forwards all game.. and in the fourth, wondering why he shot 11FTs
That one where he goes in and football smacks the Raptor the goes up and flops down...he came down on his opponents leg a little bit on the way down. Don't know exactly why his off hand slapped down to the defender. But players this day are usually allowed contact to push others away.
But, that "push" from the back wasn't the direction that he flew.
Could be...could be that it all happened because they pushed him into the leg?!?
But, to me...that first move in with the elbow and shoulder, its at least an old school foul.
AD gets a crap ton of free throws regardless of size of player.
Thanks for your analysis. So many people focusing on the intentional fouls - one broadcast I watched said "well maybe they missed one or two for the Raptors" - even if it's just one or two in a game this close a handful of missed calls could have made the difference. THAT was the point.
Thank you for this! Helps hearing a knowledgable person talk about this. Also i hate refs that call shit so late. It happens to every team and its annoying as hell

Less than 10 were intentional. It's also less about the Raptors committing fouls and more about all the missed calls the other way. Scottie was getting hacked and he only shot 2 FTs all game. @@toothpick434
as a Raptors fan i’m so mad it’s happened to us countless times this season alone
Seriously man. Watched this one live w my pops and BOTH of us COULD NOT BELIEVE how the game was being officiated. It was an absolute robbery through and through, raptors were CLEARLY the better team last night but the refs knew they had to give the lakers a win.
If Quickly gathering to go to the basket and incidentally elbowing Reddish in the face is a flagrant, whatever. But go back in the game and look at Taurean Prince dangerously undercutting Pascal on a play that wasn't even on the ball and not receive a flagrant.
Its not just the fouls on the raptors, its the lack of foul for the raptors. If you're gonna call soft calls for the lakers you need to do it for the other team as well. But i say, let them play. As a referee, you have the responsibility to make the calls at the right times. You can make a call on every possession if you looked hard enough, that doesnt mean that you should. Good video.

Darko bringing the European football coach energy to the game, love to see it
The league needs to implement mild rules for flopping. They dont have to be techs but at this point players (especially star players) are making the games a joke. It started with Lebron and has made this era a joke. What does the NBA expect when theyve been rewarding players for flopping and making it harder and harder for refs to differentiate real contact from fake contact. Unfortunately its harder today to be a referee than ever and most of the time they are just guessing on the level of player and wether or not they make the basket. Truly eroding the fabric of a great game.
One thing nobody can explain or argue against is the amount of Laker calls with LATE WHISTLES. Waiting to see if the shot is good or bad before calling the foul never looks good. Especially when it’s always the Lakers.
-not a raptor fan and see it when my team plays them.
Yup. I noticed at least a couple very late whistles before the 4th quarter. Late whistles are a bad look for refs.

What is really sad is that young kids nowadays are being taught to initiate contact just to draw a foul, or to fall down, jerk your head, or flail your arms after minimal contact. Coach Kerr of the Warriors mentioned this in a recent interview after the Warriors were outshot from the free throw line again. NBA players have figured out that you can score a lot of points from the free throw line or to gain possession with these sorts of tricks. Kerr didn’t blame the players or the individual referees; this is just how the NBA has instructed the referees to call the game, and players are taking advantage of it. In my view, the game has suffered as a result.
In the modern NBA, there are SO MANY plays that are could be called by the ref all the time! things like ticky-tack fouls, traveling, carries, etc can "technically" be ruled as fouls. This is why the 2-minute reports and coaches' challenges often fall short in catching and addressing these issues; in fact, the NBA is using it even more to their advantage.
The problem is way more than just a bad call against the Raptors; it more so all of the non-calls that go unnoticed, allowing them to gain an unfair advantage without technically violating the rules. There needs to be way more focus shifted from debating whether a particular play technically qualifies as a foul or not. It overshadows the fundamental issue of fairness and consistency in officiating.
If the discrepancy in calls was solely due to incompetence, obliviousness, or unconscious bias, I would be disappointed. However, it appears that the issue goes beyond mere mistakes and is clearly deliberate cheating. It seems as though certain teams are being favoured to ensure their path to the playoffs.
What's particularly annoying is that this doesn't seem to be a matter of personal preference but rather a calculated move to boost profits. After our playoff victory, the NBA made it abundantly clear that having the Raptors in the NBA doesn't align with their financial interests. More money can be generated if teams like the lakers take the spotlight. This situation became even more evident when Denver won.
As passionate Raptors supporters, it's disheartening to witness our team facing such challenges, seemingly fueled by financial motives rather than fair competition. Let's continue to voice our concerns and hope that the league addresses these issues for the sake of fair play and the integrity of the game.
One final rant. I hate that all of the commentators are saying that we let AD just walk up and score half the time. This isn't because we were bad defensively, in fact, before all of the horrible calls, we were doing pretty well. It's because they were forced them out of playing the way they want to because of the contant flow of the game was interrupted and they were playing different because they didn't want any more B$ calls.
Well spoken!❤
Integrity over profit?!?!? Lmao fat chance
It's games like this that are making the NBA impossible to watch... clear and blatant favoritism. Whether conscious or sub-conscious, there is no doubt it occurs. You can't even really blame players for trying to get easy points, but at this point offensive players continue to do more and more unnatural movements to try to draw contact... A defender could be standing still with their hand out and the offensive player will do some herky-jerky movement just to bump into them.
For real. It's absurd that foul baiting is supposed to be something to be proud of, but the league wants to stop flopping. Or so they say because I've barely seen it called this season for obvious flops. Love great defense
So, you didn't watch the video. Why post here then?

That offensive foul called on RJ really had me upset. It was beyond clear that Davis was flopping.
Some other fans have rightly pointed out that you could call a foul on nearly every possession, depending how nitpicky you are - so consistency in the whistle on both ends is of utmost importance. That is what I really felt was lacking in this game.
I just really felt that the officiating ultimately decided the winner of this game, and it’s always sad when that happens.
Side note: if the league put as much energy into stopping flops as they do assessing techs for minor taunting/complaining, the league would be so much better
Congrats on partnering with Payton manning and ESPN Kenny.

I'm glad you brought up the 2-min report! - Question: when is a foul on the head not a foul (on the head)?? NBA: when the contact is incidental. - Except the contact was hard enough to alter the shot! To me, it's becoming more & more obvious that the 2-min report is an exercise in scrambling and ass-covering by NBA leadership. I don't know anyone who thought the non-call on JB was correct... but then, the same report stated that the foul they called on KP was incorrect, and the Pacers got 3 free throws and the win from that call. Either way, the refs favored the Pacers big time in a close game. - Same iish here! Raptors got robbed, Darko became hero for a day (& 25K poorer), meanwhile the league is BFFs with the refs not the players who bring the game.

Yes it is a foul buy the books, but in the NBA they let that slide every other play. So to call it in such a crucial moment while not consistently calling it throughout the game is simply disapointing.
Agreed but it’s 50/50 on how the reds call a 4th quarter that’s close. They either let them play and are more lenient or they call most of everything a foul.
@@Dreminutes I agree that that is how it is. But it needs to be more consistent so that the players know how to play.
They only call it when it means they'll win their bet they put on prizepicks.
Well the total number of free throw disparity in the 4th does tell the story of the game because if the discrepancy wasn’t too high, the raptors wouldn’t be forced to foul intentionally in the last minute of the game

As a raps fan I appreciate Kenny covering this. So many NBA talk about Raps fans being bias but you have to understand when American media ignores the Raptors we get most our feedback from likeminded sources which creates a bubble of us feeling everyone is against us. It's group think. So we need more neutral voices like Kenny to break things down and say hey I agree or disagree. But the ways it's going right now it feels like Raps are getting shafted. Quickly was also fouled at the end of the Kings game that didn't necessarily cost us the game but definitely cost us OT where anything could've happened.
Thanks for your analysis. Still learning the game.
Darko dropped bars
It was even more about the missed calls than the calls. Scottie got hacked several times, RJ had multiple that didn’t get called. It was very bad. Even the same thing happening on each side and only getting called on one side
It wasn't called evenly. Yeah the Lakers got fouled but the raptors didn't get the same call. That was my issue. The consistency of the calls was pretty bs and game changing whether they wanna admit it or not. I'm not a fan of either team. I'm not a hater of either team as well lol. Unbiased and yep I went back and rewatched the 4th as well and you definitely caught the key moments of unfairness.
I agree, crazy thing is, it's usually the other way around 😢
Love that y’all got Payton 🤣
The main issue was the consistency. Only calling the game one way, just ignoring the defense when the Raptors were on offense.
It is also specifically about the missed fouls that the Raptors had to deal with, not specifically about the amount of fouls called for the Lakers but my god the flopping added a shit load of wanting to just turn the TV off
Edit: Also it was 8 freethrows that were intentionally fouled
Can you share your thoughts on the transition foul Prince commits on Pascal Siakam earlier in the 1st half?
Can you justify how the 6th foul on Quickley in the 4th was deemed flagrant but getting undercut causing the fall in transition isn't a flagrant?
I think coach Darko's blow up was rooted in how the whistle was swallowed on one side and not for the other.
Hear, hear. Its almost real bad Darko didn't go into that foul / no call on Pascal where he gets undercut. Where is the consistency? sigh.
collab was funny asf lol
Fire Rant!!! 🔥
Finally, everyone talking about “23-2” but nobody actually points out the bad calls other than maybe 1 or 2 that could go both ways
Watching the fouls again helped me realize how close they actually are
it’s more about the many calls that didn’t go to the raptors despite having 20 more points in the paint. the worst of which was that push on Thaddeus Young that was infinitely worse than the reviewed “palm touch” that garnered a shooting foul for the Lakers
Besides the 4th quarter, some of the calls were horrendous. Not calling goaltending and instead calling a technical foul when JVB grabs the rim when RJ attempted a layup in the 2nd quarter at around 9 minutes, Wood grabbed his shoulder too, should've been an automatic and-1
That non goaltend call was ridiculous
its a goaltend for the other 29 teams but for Raptors its a technical@@finnmac5370
Kenny, thank you for making a video on this
Can’t wait for the TTW boys to be back in NOTB
Good to see an outside perspective from someone without a dog in the fight. I think Barnes should've gotten that and 1 and the pushoff on thad should've been a foul. The IQ move was a legal basketball move, but it looks bad in replay so agree on the call. I think most of the fouls on the lakers were fair, but raptors didn't get the fair treatment, disrupting game momentum and their need to intentionally foul. But then again.. if they weren't that desperate would Siakam and Schroder have hit those big time shots? We'll never know. Truly think this should've been a raptors win tho.
Edit: that screen on RJ, as Darko puts it, is bullshit. Lebron and other big men get away with those brace calls all the time. You can clearly see AD pivoting his direction from the right and into RJ, as soon as Scottie is open and RJ moves. And it was only called as soon as Scottie released his open look.
This comment is 🔥
Here’s the problem that is really bugging the raptor fans, yes there were some 50/50 calls like that screen and tiny bumps, but every single one of those 50/50 calls went in favour of the lakers, while raptors didn’t get any calls at all. But hey if you take a step back it took 3 extra players and then making all their free throws to beat the raptors by 1 at home. That is being overshadowed by Darkos rant and this free throw controversy.
Loved the rant. We need someone who will bring some soul and passion back to raptors like we had w lowry and derozen
At 4:31 no rip through foul. The defender actually pulled his hands back when he saw the offensive player started his upward shooting motion. That's what we call an anticipated whistle. As Referees, we're told to be timely with the whistle and at times, we do anticipate contact. But that situation was no contact by the defender... None. As a Referee for 23yrs, I must admit, I have also made that error of anticipation. It's more common than you think.
d'lo doin the too small gesture after missing the bucket and getting the foul is hilarious to me
That Peyton Manning clip is epic. 🔥🔥🔥
