With airtight storage, dried herbs typically last 1-3 years. Ground, or powdered, spices typically have a shelf life of 2-3 years. If stored properly, whole spices can last up to 4 years. Expiration dates are a use by guideline for maximum flavor and potency. Bottom line, you'd have to use a greater amount to achieve the same flavors.

As a southerner, we eat Ranch on everything. Everything? Yes. Everything. One of my favorite bar foods are Ranch Wings (its a fried chicken wing with dry ranch mix in the flour with a lot of salt). Then, we dip said Ranch Wings into Ranch dressing. I'm completely convinced that some folks dip their Ranch dressing into Ranch dressing!

My daughter-in-law had a birthday party for my son when he turned 40 a few years ago and she put out vegetables and dip. The dip was the most amazing thing I have ever tasted in my life. I asked her how she made it and she said oh it’s so easy. It’s just a package of hidden valley ranch and a container of sour cream. I use this for my husband‘s blue cheese salad dressing I use it for dip. You can use it as a spread on wraps.

I frequently make the WholesomeYum Ranch recipe. I add a touch of allulose and thin it out to mimic the kind you’d get at a restaurant and it is amazing! I’ve tried it with fresh, dried and mixed herbs depending on what I have on hand and it always tastes good. Also, I make my own mayo for this from a super easy Serious Eats recipe using avocado oil.

2 T as a serving for ranch? Oh h3ll no, lol. Another great recipe that I use weekly is from the Southern Keto cookbook. Her recipe makes a bulk dry herb and spice mix and you add that to sour cream, mayo, and lemon juice to make about a pint of dressing. It's fantastic.

Thank you for this awesome video, Wes! I do think that the first recipe's ratio of 1:1 mayo and sour cream really helped it to be creamier. I've found that that is my preferred ratio as well.
Keto ranch dressing is so easy! I started out with Wholesome Yum's recipe, which is truly divine! But now I don't really even use a recipe. I do single servings when I make my salad. Just a tablespoon of both sour cream and mayo with my choice of spices. I always add a little garlic and onion powder, but everything else is up in the air! I love adding everything but the bagel seasoning. It's one of my favorites. Add a little dill, chives and parley and you have a lovely ranch!
My advice is, start with a good recipe. Make it several times until you know it by heart. Then, start playing around . Variety is the spice of life! :)

Here is my recipe I made in the 90s when I moved to England (which did not have Ranch then). Also, make this the night before using so the flavors come together:
    1 t Parsley
    ½ t Garlic powder
    ¼ t Onion powder
    1/8 t Dill
    1/8 t Thyme
    1/8 t Paprika
    1/8 t Red Pepper flakes
    1 t Salt
    ¾ t Pepper
    ½ c Mayo
    ½ c Sour Cream
    2 T Heavy Cream w/ 1 t Lemon Juice OR White Vinegar
edited to add: this was dip to serve with Buffalo Wings (yep, had to homemake that sauce as well, lol). If you want a thinner dressing style, just add a larger amount of the heavy cream/lemon.

I use dried herbs because I can’t grow parsley and dill for some reason (black thumb LOL) but I do have fresh chives ( they can survive my black thumb🤣) and I also use fresh garlic. I use a grater to blend it in well and use Irish Celtic sea salt. I get rave reviews!!!

I'm going to try it with a thick full fat greek yogurt instead of sour cream. Very timely video for me as I have been mulling over the best ranch seasoning blend. ^_^

The Greek is a perfect substitute - you can't taste a difference and you get the bonus of probiotics.

If you’re looking for a quick, one-step addition to your base, try ordering the ranch dressing blend from Spice House online. It’s delish!

What good news on these recipes. Sometimes the one thing missing in Keto foods is a familiar taste - and if both of these recipes work as well as you say they do, then life just got a bit better. Thanks as usual Wes.

This is amazing. Another good reason that I need to start an herb garden. My family eats a lot of ranch dressing and that first recipe's macros look great. I sometimes find it hard to get enough fats in my food. That first recipe would be great to just add a few tablespoons of fresh ranch and get the good quality fat content that I need for my daily macros. Thanks for all you do Wes.

Hi Wes - fresh herbs are easy to grow, especially if you live in the south. If you have room in your backyard, clear a little patch, or set some pots on your deck, and grow your favorites. That way, you will get the delicious freshness without the grocery store expense. I'll send you seeds if you like, as my way of saying "thanks!" for the wonderful content you produce. I have many kinds, but the most best to grow yourself are basil, thyme, parsley, dill, rosemary, oregano, peppermint, spearmint, summer savory, cilantro, and sage. Just ask, and I'll send whichever seeds you want. 🙂
