Can't wait for the entirety of HL2 to get made into one map
Would make a huge HL2RP map.
I think it might run into the same issue that HL1 has, in that they might end up overlapping with each other because it wasn't meant to be a single large map, but who knows

@@TacBans i have seen a guy who put every map into a program and there is no overlap, although the coast is underneath parts of waterhazard.

Man the fact that an engine from the 2000's can still hold up to unity and unreal engine standards is mind blowing.
Renderware was a great engine, shame what EA did to it

This has a really great potential for map ports since Source had a map size limit.
So It's basically factors like custom models/Npcs/Weapons etc and maps being the only part where porting wasn't really possible.
i like how everyone was porting hl movement and weapons to the gta games and then people started doing the opposite
The GTA III recreation isn’t that far off from the “definitive edition” in terms of glitches and rendering issues, really.

Man seeing Vice City and GTA3 all empty like this is pretty creepy. GMod has always been great at giving me this feeling of solitude, is awesome.
the most unsettling thing about these maps is the fullbright and the pale colors. Vice City was a really colorful game for it's time
I'd love to see the entirety of Rockport from NFS Most Wanted 2005 ported to GMod.

Considering the Infinite Map uses a chunk system similar to Minecraft, which just keeps you teleported to the center and uses detours, I'm actually surprised nobody did this sooner. It makes a lot of sense to use a chunking system.
Maybe it was just because nobody in the past was skilled enough to make efficient code. You know, making detours for particles, sounds, rendering, etc. Or just making teleporting properly seamless.
Thanks for covering this map base, I learned about it from the devlog from Mee's channel, he's made some truly spectacular mods for Gmod but this one has to take the cake.

The source engine is such an enigma of a engine. It's not the only engine of its kind but just when you think it has hit a certain limit and needs a new iteration such as source 2, the modding gods force mutate and force it to do things you never thought it could be capable of.

After 10+ years on SA:MP up until the point where other maps were able to be ported into THAT, I can't fathom what an open-ended system like GMod can handle. This excites me.
I want 500+ players playing DarkRP at once, like SAMP servers had.
Did you happen to play NG-RP back in the day, around 2011-2013? I met some of my best friends that I still talk to today on that server. I miss that time a lot.
@@maybetomorrowmaybe That would be amazing. I played SA-RP and PR-RP for a while but then joined LS-RP where I stayed for most of my time on SA:MP.
500+ players would be peak. GMod does have some really cool large maps too, about as big as GTA 3, but idk how popular they are.

i tried playing it yesterday, it took forever to load but its just so impressive that people are basically removing source's boundryes with garry's mod like this, i hope someone makes a port of gta sa map next

I mean it'd probably be possible, if someone put in the work. From what I've heard this infinite map base thing can handle a huge map like that, and PCs can handle it, but it's just a matter of porting it and putting in the work to get it into Source which is not an easy task if we're talking about a map that big.
@@maybetomorrowmaybe The Mee person who made InfMap has also made an OBJ loader which is how these gta maps work, if you have an OBJ of the gta v map then importing it shouldn't be too hard but then again I haven't tried it myself

Open worlds come to GMod thanks to basically Portal's mechanic on a mass scale.
just a minor comment: i've already seen ports of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. maps on the workshop, mainly ShOC maps, like Radar, Army Warehouses, and Yantar, as the maps in that game are already segmented with loading screens and are about as big as a usual Gmod map. But a fully fledged F:NV map port would be awesome.
Good video as always, Love the old PS2 era GTA games, San Andreas and Liberty City Stories are my two favourites.

Have you ever heard of CMDR? Riley SV That's his RUclips name. I'm not sure what is actual steam name is but he makes Gmod maps and I think they're very good. Well detailed and overall amazing. I would love for you to reach out to him or cover some of his maps even mention. He deserves it for being an amazing content creator. In both Gmod and RUclips
It's awesome seeing this get more recognition, you should check out the developers showcase videos themselves as it explained the technicals a little bit and kinda gives you an idea what kind of limitations it has

I've always thought that the next big thing for source mapping would be larger size limit. This isn't quite what I was thinking, but it is very groundbreaking.
Somebody should do a Minecraft Map with that Infinite Map Base.

I want NFS:MW and NFS:C maps in GMod, but I doubt those are possible to pull off considering the systems for how things appear from far away are completely different. Nevertheless, looking forward to San Andreas NPC wars if it works well
It should be possible tbh, since nothing realy overlaps, it would just look shitty from a distance
I love Infmap. I've tried the Vice City map and it was interesting. The only downfall, as you mentioned is that you have to use the x64 builds, which on Linux and SteamOS, the main menu will not work. I had to use the console and type the map to get in that way.
So any Steam Deck users may want to be advised trying these maps that getting in will be difficult without proper gear. (mouse and keyboard, or proper binds)
Something I always wanted to see, and I guess this will make it possible, merge all the maps of Half Life, Opposing Force, Blue Shift and Decay together into a gigantic explorable Black Mesa map.
Remember that TF2 battle royale map as april fools joke video? I wonder if someone is interested merging that map or make a new one with all maps to free roam everywhere using Infinite map. It would be Fantastic
This is like, way, WAY beyond probably what even this map base could support, not to mention whatever beast of a server you would need, but I'm imagining some truly huge game areas. Something like Dark Souls from Firelink through to Blighttown, or even a chunk of the Eastern Kingdoms or Kalimdor from WoW. The endless iteration and collaboration from the Garry's Mod community has me optimistic.

This is so cool! I used to be big into the WAC aircraft mod so the tiny map size really ruined the fun
If Rockstar doesn't allow us to mod GTA, why not we mod GTA it in a completely different game right

this Infinite Map can open possibilities, for example:Make a fully map of Malta or Curaçao!
I love the map of Vice City, as much as Rockstar managed to take the style of the map, They put the map of San Andreas, will be something incredibly large and ambitious, Liberty City is also cool to walk through it for you feel to be in that city, even if it is not in the original game, but it is cool to make a hide and seek between friends on this map, And if they do it with any other map that is large, it will be something impressive, but I liked to see that it was finally possible to put in Garry's Mod to be able to expand the map limit of the game, the maps of GTA 2D are very simple and basic, but it's nice to play on them, to see the map in another perspective
The possibility of somene taking the time to re-do the entire story from GTA 3 and VC in GM is out there as well.

I was once was close with Mee back when those Tornado sandbox servers were popular. Shit changes, i'm actually glad to see him creating some stuff that people never tried before.
Lemme explain about the InfMap and the other maps.
The InfMap Base/map basically works by creating sort of copies of the map; the copies, though, are not really parts of the map, they are fake chunks being rendered like outside the actual map. Imagine you have your map, it's a smal cube but it seams to extend by cloning the map for the sides. Objects that are in a determined chunk will have it's collisions disabled with objects that seams to be in the previous chunk and they'll be invisible and they'll be rendered in the previous chunk. In short terms, all the objects are in the same area but will be cloned to the look like they are in another area.
About the large maps though, InfMap is not a necessary tool for maps of that size. I don't know why they used this base but I think it's cause of the water.
Note: The lack of shadows is not exactly about the InfMap but by the map not being really made of brushes but more like "entities".
I can remember having fun by pretending it was GTA on Bigcity on a pirated copy of Gmod 13 back in 2020, oh boy, it was fun.

Funny that you mention 4D maps, because the infinite map base is technically 6 dimensional, which is how it achieves the illusion of infinity.
I remember seeing a port of the Fallout 3 map many years ago, don't remember if it was the full map, but it looked really good.
I had to download a shitload of materials for it tho.

As a layman who watched some YT videos about game development, my uneducated guess is that these maps move the world relative to you, which sounds like it would be difficult to get to work in multilayer.

Something like this is actually missing in games. An open world GTA-like game that plays like a regular ego shooter and were you can go into every building.
infmaps are great for pushing simphys to its absolute limits for speed, getting a simphys dukes to hit 3,900 km/h just hits different, traveling infmaps at a speed slower than 2,100 km/h is just not the same

I'm seeing a lot of people talk about other games like nfs or GTA but I'm not really seeing too many people talk about l.a. noir that game was pretty big for its time!
On top of that really makes you wonder if space games will be a big head and Garry's mod if this map generator works like it says it does!

i've always thought that the Vice City map would make an amazing RP world but never in a thousand years it would make it's way into the source engine, full scale, and be fully playable.
Talking about gta: I used to play vice city as a 3 year old,as for San andreas,4-7 and now gta 5 8-till this day
someone just made a gta v version a few days ago! though its not the whole map, but a pretty huge chunk of the city
I really wish to see Garry's Mod get updated and ported to the Strata Source engine branch, which would make the 64-bit client much better than what we have in beta right now on Steam. (3:22)

infmap base has space if you set the noclip speed to very high then go up space and the planets have surfaces
