Really sad to see Marcus go but I do think that we have made this team better and stronger with a big man who is young and can move right into Horford spot and we already have a great point guard who can move in and take Smarts spot. But Smart is a true pro and a great player and I wish him all the best in Memphis and will still and always be a Marcus Smart fan.

agreed. the runway is now cleared for the c's best pg to take the lead guard role like he did for Pop in SA. if we can trade pp and brogdon as well for backup big and backup wing, then we can finally clear the way for euroleague rising star pgmadar to come over. we have alot of pg depth. JD has high potential too.

We got Porzingis and 2 first rd picks for Smart, 2 bench guys (Galo Muscala) and a second rd pick. It hard to not say that’s a win. Hard to see Smart go but we need to make some tweaks. Now we need to manage porzingis and Brogdon the entire season so they are fresh for the playoffs. So play Horford on the first game of back to back and Kristaps on second day. And rest Brogdon on b2b as well. Give Hauser and Prichard minutes and get TPE on sign and trade for Grant . Draft a wing with pick 25. Jaylen super max . Good offseason.

Excellent deal by Brad! In Brad I trust. so many positives in this deal:
    1. we address the biggest position of need with an all-star big.
    2. we balance the books in preparation for new CBA by getting an expiring.
    3. trading smart clears the runway for the celtics best pg to assume lead guard role, just like he used to do for Pop in SA.
    4. we got 2 1st RD picks.
    5. trading smart means no more JT passes out of double team to smart 3 in the clutch.
Next steps and other things to keep an eye on:
    1. due to trading gallo and muscala, we now need a backup big and maybe a wing too if grant doesn't return.
    2. celtics still in talks with hawks about pp. i hope we trade pp for bey or griffin and solve the backup wing need.
    3. grant in so many S&T rumors. hope we get something for him instead of him just walking.
    4. might be an awkward return for brogdon. would be best to trade him for a backup wing or backup big. that should make us retain pp or clear the runway to bring euroleague rising star madar over as the backup pg with JD as the garbage time pg.
    5. get a defensive coordinator asst. coach like dave joerger.

I thought the same thing, if the Celtics won atleast ONE, just ONE, ring in the last 5 seasons then they could keep the team. I love how the Cs are sticking with their team and not trading everyone all the time(which is rare these days) but you’re right, every year we are a top 5 team but somehow lose in the playoffs so obviously something has to change and we were going to have to move some of our stars around. It was going to have to be Hordford, Smart, Brogdon, Tatum, or Brown, and it seems like the Celtics are trying to find a way to keep both Brown and Tatum. Everyone is saying we can’t afford to keep both bc of max deals, but why not??? The most historic team in the NBA with the most championships can’t afford to superstar players but yet tons of others teams can?? Some teams even have 3 superstars in the past and present and some have 4 super good players which is like the same thing money wise

I thought after some time I’d feel better about this trade but the truth is that we lost the best Celtic, not best player, best Celtic on this team. I understand Brad’s decision, yes we got great value back.
John, you’re absolutely right. This was a gut punch to Celtics fans, regardless of whether you like or dislike Smart. He embodied a true teammate and asset to the organisation. He tirelessly put the team first and constant changed himself for what the team needed. He learned to become a happier and more positive version of himself and really grew into a better person. I hope this hits as hard or even harder to the Jays. They’re now fully responsible for this team, they have to carry that torch and I hope it lights a fucking huge fire in their hearts.
The real shame is if we win and Marcus isn’t on that podium. I guess everything has a cost but this one stings so much. The entire time I’ve followed this team, this hurts the most.

It really stinks seeing Marcus Smart go,He's been my favorite Celtics player for years and he always brought an edge to this team that was severly lacking when he was off the court. I wish him nothing but luck going foward with the Griz.

I'd love to see them pick Kris Murray tonight with that #25 pick but I have a feeling that the Kings at 24 will grab him to pair up with his twin brother Keegan.
Porzingas should be a great fit on both sides of the ball and it gives Tatum a legit partner for the pick & roll late in games. I do hope that with Smart heading out it now leaves more minutes for Payton Pritchard who may want to stickaround now.
