    We got the Cummins RS35 in 2020 from AAGenPro. It saved our lives when the Texas power grid went down in 2021. It ran for 4 day straight, and the gas bill was under $200.00 for a 6,000 sq’ house and pool. Best money we ever spent. No worries for hurricane season.

    Just did the coldest stretch in Texas history and our Cummins 39KW performed admirably. I thought it might not start because of the battery being below freezing. It started so well we couldn’t see any lag in time between utility power quitting and generator start up. The power was out a long time. Our natural gas supply was steady, so we had a warm home and plenty of light. Some neighbors talked about coming over to warm up but never showed. In our area there were lots of burst water pipes. Not one at my home. We ran every faucet just a little to keep water flowing and none of them froze.

    Well done video. During Hurricane IDA we were on our Cummins RS25 for 5 days with no problems. It is Propane powered and we went from 80% to 50% in our 500 gallon propane tank. We have a dedicated tank just for the generator. The only problem was contacting the Propane dealer to refill the tank. It's two weeks later and I finally got hold of the Propane dealer and was "put on the list". We live in SE Louisiana and the area was devastated so naturally the propane people are overloaded. I may put in a second propane tank or tie in to my house propane tank in case we have to go through this again. The house is 3400 sq ft with 2 A/C units, well pump, sump pump, and electric oven....no problems. We are very happy with the Cummins.

      During Hurricane IDA there was a generator offset surcharge for those staying in the hotel where I was. Same with grocery stores running on generator power. They all charge a offset surcharge. Weather running on diesel, propane, or natural gas.

    I have a 30 kw Cummins home standby generator with a Cummins transfer switch. It powers the whole house and is much quieter than the 5000 watt Honda portable generator with a manual transfer switch that the Cummins replaced. This setup is not cheap but is very effective. We tend to get ice storms and hurricanes here in central NC and when power goes out, it is for an extended period upwards to a week. I confess that there is a certain satisfaction when the whole development is dark except for my house. My neighbor recently replaced their Generac with a Cummins as well.

    This is the way to do it. Generac take about 20 seconds to switch over. That extra 12 seconds may not seem like enough, but it makes a difference with your overall experience. Also there would be a few minute delay before switching back I have seen secondarily outages during a store or when they try to restore power. Finally if you're not doing a load test, you're not testing the generator properly.

    It's a shame the Contractor couldn't stub up the underground conduit in the correct location, so you wouldnt see that ugly carflex conduit on the concrete pad. Plan ahead a little man! The hand written note on the ATS is top notch! Our placards and labels need to be per ANSI standards. I need to move to Texas!! Looks like anything goes! Cummins does have a nice product.

  • @StarCampShasta

    I know this will sound like a stupid question, but it looks like the transfer switch is located between the meter and the main breaker box, so if the transfer is engaged, is the power meter running? I would never ask such a stupid question like this, but I was talking to a lady at the power company and she said something about being careful about this issue. Can somebody please tell me this is not an issue? Also is the manual utility shutoff switch come with the transfer switch on the 20K model? I would LOVE to shut off the grid manually to test the generator. We ordered one and it's coming...just wanted to clear the confusion.

    I too had a Cummins installed by Genpro out of Houston to our home in Lake Jackson. I went with the 30KW because the difference in cost from the 20KW to the 30KW was so small I thought better to have more than enough is better. Initially we had some bad luck. A component inside the transfer switch failed and had to be replaced. Then a major component of the genny failed and had to be replaced. Since then the only thing besides oil changes was the battery had to be replaced, but it was at least 5 years old. Our exercises once a week and it is so quiet. I actually went with an optional noise muffler and I wonder if I needed it because it’s so quiet anyway. We have actually had power outages and did not know it at the time because the transfer was so quick and quiet. I would like to speak to you privately, or message you privately because I want to ask you some questions about your thoughts on Genpro. They started off ok with us but turned when ever we asked them for service. They didn’t want to come from Houston to Lake Jackson.

      @@minituck04 our Cummins unit is getting us through the big Texas freeze in perfect condition. We live only 10 or 15 minutes drive from the ocean. I can tell you most of our neighbors are ripping down sheet rock to get at the frozen pipes that burst. Our daughter and husband has gone 40 hours without power. Our home went 20 hours without city power and we might not have noticed. Our Cummins sensed the power loss and switched over to natural gas so fast, we didn’t even notice an interruption. We are running our swimming pool 24/7 in order to avoid freeze up of any components. We have -lefty of power and plenty left over. It runs very smoothly and quietly. It is liquid cooled and much more quiet than an air cooled unit like Generac. Those are cheaper but very loud. None of my neighbors have come over to complain about the noise. Some have smaller portable generators to run just their furnace to keep heat. They are really loud and have to be refilled several times a day. Our experience has been great so far as our home being comfortable and safe. I am worried about our fruit trees and palm trees.

    I have been looking at this model for quite some time. I'm looking at putting it on a new home when we build in the near future. have you been satisfied with the level one sound enclosure? videos are hard to judge loudness. I know there's a level two with an extra intake baffle section.

    • @electrokal
      @electrokal  8 лет назад +4

      Yes, it is extremely quiet. The video does a bad job of showing how quiet it really is. I looked at the additional sound deadening intake dampers as well. I decided to wait until I got the gen installed before spending the money on them and I'm glad I waited. The gen sits right outside the master bedroom and even under a good load you can barely hear it inside. The AC condensers are louder. I'd advise you do the same and save the money on the sound dampers until it's installed. They can be added easily after the fact.

    Well I reside in California and we are in the midst of utility shut offs becoming the norm here. State and local governments want to move to emission free back up power, ie. a 100K solar lithium battery hybrid inverter model. Would run about 3 days without sunshine to recharge. I can hook up a generator. So my question is: in my county the sound level must be 45 dB or less at property line (in my case, about 50 feet from installation). Can you please tell me how many dB you measure with generator OFF then ON about 50 feet away? There are plenty of free apps for Android and apple to do this. Would be a big help. also, if anybody has soundproofed this model, how did they do it?

    Hi Kaleb, did you have any issues with the inspection having the generator less than five feet from the fence? I can't find a place where Cummins specifies 18" from a fence/structure is allowed.

    • @electrokal
      @electrokal  6 лет назад

      Not at all, the manual says the intake and exhaust sides must be 5' from any structure, which ours is. The only other specifications shown are for the side panels needing 24" on each side to allow for removal.

    • @rdxguy8667
      @rdxguy8667 6 лет назад

      Ah, got it. I didn't realize you were 5' from that fence. I've only got 14' between the eaves of my house and my fence. To make matters worse, I learned there's also an 8' easement so there's no way I can fit this on the side of my house now. Going to either put it in the backyard or get a Cummins air-cooled so I can be within 18" of my house. You have a really nice setup. Did you happen to use it during any of the recent hurricanes?

    • @electrokal
      @electrokal  6 лет назад

      We did, no issues with the generator. Power was only off for stretches of a few hours at a time. Was hoping to have it run for a few solid days at least to really test it, but that didn't happen this time.

      Neither... They had about 100 feet to carry it, so they did what I will describe as the "Egyptian" move. 2 large poles stuck under the gen and 8 men (2 on each corner) carried it and set it into place.

      It was nearly 3 years ago, however it cost just shy for 20k. Those costs added quite a bit of labor and material costs. AAGenpro in Houston did an amazing job for us though.
