    It’s nice to see people actually look at options vs needs vs means. I live in a very remote area that happens to be a “top 5 bucket list” 4wd destination. Honestly, from talking to tourists in my job, most people really don’t have a clue what their particular needs are. Mostly they just buy what the salesman, internet, mates or advertising tells them they need. I love my patrol Ute, and I love my old rusty 80, and my 2 old 75 series Utes. I think keeping ur patrol is a very good option. I like ur videos. U seem really genuine. Please don’t watch too many other ppl doin the same type of vids, ur style is unique. Cheers! 🍻👍🎯🇦🇺

      Very remote, top 5 bucket list 😳 my mind is on overdrive with excitement, they are some of my favourite words all put together!!🤯 They don’t make vehicles like they used to, sounds like you have quite the collection. Thanks heaps for the positive feedback it means a lot!!😊👍 Andrew I am not going to be able to sleep tonight, where do you live? 🤔

      I haven’t even had the opportunity to pop my new office up yet, one of those things once you have it you don’t need it, if that’s what’s keeping the flies at bay I’m glad I bought it.

    Congrats. We travel FT in an MDC AUSRV XL13 which we love but do admit it’s heavy.
    Roof top certainly has its pros but when in bad weather certainly wet cold and very windy (like some of our fellow travellers) you will find a few issues.
    Best of luck though and safe travels.

    • @4solitude4S
      @4solitude4S  3 месяца назад +1

      Thanks ☺️ we did like the MDC’s they look well built properly why they are a bit heavier.
      Everything comes with pros and cons it just what pros and cons work best for you in your situation.
      We already feel like the RTT will be a bit colder than the swag given it has more room but we can always sleep in thermals, so far just the one test in the wet and it preformed better than we expected, not looking forward to crazy wind

    Glad you guys upgraded to a RTT, I love mine. The only thing I suggest is that you make sure the canvas is really tucked away inside when you pack it up as it will let the rain in if you have any canvas hanging out, and keep the seals clean, they do get dusty. Other than that, they are a godsend for people with bad backs that have to stay off the ground. Solar panel/s?, yes, the more the merrier just make sure there is sufficient ventilation underneath. It looks like it would be easy to fit some roof rails to it, may I suggest some 41mm x 21mm slotted Unistrut with some endcaps. They come galvanised which is great and can be painted black after cutting to size and are plenty strong. You can get all sorts of fittings for them and make installing them easy along with the solar panels. Unistrut also make 41 x 41mm channels which are bulkier and heavier but can carry more weight which is overkill IMHO. If you can, aim for the slotted ones (they have the oblong holes in them), they make mounting things to them so much easier, are slightly lighter than the solid ones, So easy to hook slings and stuff, just so versatile. A few different companies have jumped on board and make similar struts if that helps.

      @4solitude4S  3 месяца назад +1

      Thanks mate, yes we are loving the RTT and getting the hang of getting all the canvas tucked in when packing it up. It has come with roof racks and built in rails very similar to unistrut. We have a solar panel on order as we are missing our old one. Thanks for watching and your very thoughtful comment. 😊👍👍

    We are on our second MDC, best thing we ever did. You mentioned lack of storage yet went with a rtt that has none. I still can’t get my mind past that.

    • @4solitude4S
      @4solitude4S  3 месяца назад

      So glad you are loving you MDC they look very well built. We were talking about storage in the vans as if you were to buy one you would want to live out of it, eg put all your stuff in it not just a couple of things and then need to also live out of your car as well. We have no need for extra storage with our current canopy set up it was merely an observation with a small van. You buy a RTT just to sleep in not to store things in. Thanks for your comment and watching. 👍😊

    Great episode, I enjoyed all the options that you looked at before you decided on your rooftop tent.
    I agree that the progression for you to a roof top tent is most definitely the best option for you both. It looks great and comfortable.
    I have seen other people say that they had to put in an additional mattress/ foam to make it more comfortable. Do you think that you could need to do this as well?
    Really happy for you both enjoy and safe travels.

      @4solitude4S  3 месяца назад

      Thanks Darren, yes we just felt right about it and it felt like the natural progression for us. The mattress is great, don’t think we will need to upgrade it but we did just sleep on the floor in a swag for almost 2.5 years so I guess anything would be great to us 🤣🤣🤣. We will definitely keep everyone updated if we make any changes to it. Thanks for your comment and watching 😊👍👍👍

    How ironic is the OKA that you looked at , for the past couple of weeks, I have driven past it on my way to work and was wondering what year , price , mileage and the condition that it is in on the inside. There is no need to enquire about it as you answered it for me. 😂😂

    Sounds like a logical upgrade from the swag, so hopefully no more ants in your underpants 😂 look at a light weight flexible solar panel to mount on the top of the roof top tent

    You two are mental you were complaining about the space in the caravans and then you buy a roof top tent with no space

    • @4solitude4S
      @4solitude4S  3 месяца назад

      Yep makes sense to me, I don’t need additional storage with my current set up but if I was to buy a caravan I would want to move all my stuff from the canopy into it so I could live out of it. You buy a RTT to sleep in not to store things in. Hope this clarifies it for you. Thanks for watching 😊👍👍👍
