Just found out Joey died August 2022 at 51 what a loss to jazz, my favorite organist. I visit this Jam often for the all that jazz offers, the swing, the rhythm, the beat, the tempo, it all comes together in this Jam. Jazz men in groups go to places together that you and I can never go, we can only can hear about it. Joey was a God kiss for people like us that love jazz and great musicians. R.I.P. Joey,. Loved you.
@@guitarttimman. Obviously, he was morbidly obese. That is what killed him. I, myself, struggle with obesity. I see the doctor, watch what I eat, exercise, but still am overweight. But, I will keep trying to control it. I liked Joey’s tone and kind of jazz.
@@thomaspick4123 God bless you man. I'm a diabetic and it's getting worse. Doc says the diabetes is running upy blood pressure and my blood pressure is causing damage. I take meds, but that only lasts so long. My WONDERFUL Sister has the same condition as yours too. It's so tough here man. All we can do is keep trying and praying for eachother bro. Best wishes man. I mean that from the bottom of my heart.
@JVossos Loved all those guys (and Shirley Scott as well)...I always considered Jimmy Smith my muse, guru and spirit guide...but I eventually had yo come to accept the fact that Joey was the greatest of them all.
Our Brother, Joey DeFrancesco, during his time with us, contributed so much for so many with his style of jazz. He is now and will continue to be forever missed, but his legacy, his music and his mastery of the Hammond B3 organ (and other instruments he played) live on. Rest in peace, Our Friend and Mentor.
I first heard Joey when he, Christian McBride and Brian L played, as a trio, during a high school jazz concert in Philadelphia years ago. He was like a young Elvis. I knew his Mom and Dad as well. I have just learned of his passing. Joey will be missed. 🌾
Master class in walking electric bass. Not that many people can do it this well. Especially in this context. With a great bass player sitting at the organ.
Excellent quintette ! Ça roule ! Merci pour ce moment…..Repose cher Joey en musique auprès de Dieu ….et charme nos Défunts !🌹🌹✝️✝️✝️🌹🌹🌹✝️✝️✝️❤️❤️❤️❤️🇫🇷🇫🇷🇫🇷🇫🇷
There's no way to overstate Larry Carlton's genius. Was watching an old documentary about the making of Steely Dan's 'Aja' - Carlton was obviously very highly respected by his fellow musicians on the LP.
I totally agree. Ever since Steely Dan released “Kid Charlemagne”, he’s had the greatest and longest lasting effect on my playing, far outweighing any of my other favorite guitarists. I was lucky enough to see him play live two times. Unfortunately he seems to be slowing down, possibly due to a health problem. I’m not much younger than him, so I can identify with having to deal with the effects of aging. Unlike Larry, though, I haven’t toured the world numerous times. That kind of life can take a toll. Nevertheless, he’s still my all time favorite musician.
I love Joey. Y'all realize, don't you, that he opens this thing with a direct steal from Richard "Groove" Holmes Misty. If you haven't heard that, you really must. It's on RUclips. And then after the Groove Holmes opening, it's pure Joey.
Very good ensemble indeed. Wally's is a terrific place to listen to great live music, one of the temples of great music in the States.. First local owned by black folks in the USA, truly iconic. I don't quire know how is it that it is not included in Boston leisure guides yet. I've been there once, most of peformers are students from nearby Berkley, so, you can imagine the level we are talking about here. Great atmosphere, incredible cocktails, and, beautiful ladies, too. It has it all. Thank you for posting.
Got to hear Joey trying out a new trumpet at a NAMM Show years ago, in the Leblanc booth I think. Tearing it up! What a great talent. Heard him later in the Hammond booth too, of course. Ridiculous. RIP good sir.
God bless Joey, he was on another planet. Loved the guy. Has the leslie on the "stop" position..cracks me up. Also his buddy, David Sanborn with him now. RIP Gents
RIP. I just learned. I guess I haven’t been reading the jazz magazines lately. I had the privilege of seeing him perform at Ronnie Scott’s. He tore down the house.
yes, i've got my loan today. we are playing a gig in Bar 42, Ljubljana, Slovenia, EU today with Blue train quintet. Greetings from jazz club Mezzoforte.
If you want to hear music the way it’s supposed to be heard - Put those Bose Q C Earbuds in your ears - lay back and “Immerse Yourself” in pure pleasure. You hear the Deep Bass and every individual note there is in the background.. Far more enjoyable than any soundbar on the planet..
I like how Joey is playing Misty with 1 hand, that seems so cool to me, also l like the guitarist and saxophone solo, I’m a would be drummer so l got give my props to my man on drums, you sound good as well, like the way your drums are tuned.
10/10 for the cameraman...the aspiring musician wants to know what these guys are doing on their instruments...11/10 for Joey's fashion choice...shirt matches the wallpaper purr-fectly, tough thing to do.
I love the B200! Nice playing Randolph, as always! I see you played the bass pedals so much over the years your left Niki tennis show blew a gasket! Ha! Love your unique style!! 🎹🎶🎹🎶🎹 Hammond, the Sound, the Soul, the One!
Could you reiterate what exactly you are talking about? The organ used in this video is a B3 not a B200. Also there is no Randolph in this video. The organist is Joey DeFrancesco.

Did you sing it to her?

Revisiting.... Look at how much fun they are having.. This is the way that music should be.....
Pray that God is blessing you now, Joey, as He blessed you on earth.
1000 listens later ... I'm digging this song! Everything about this recording is perfect.

Larry Carlton shows that he’s a world class comper. Such beautiful chord choices and a sublime groove.

Fab! Miss you Mr. DeFrancesco, you left a rather lovely legacy.
Some fine musicians
What a great groove! We miss you, Joey!
What an awesome musician!! So sad he’s not with us anymore!!!
RIP Joey. An absolute masterclass here by Landham (on drums) on staying in the pocket while swinging very hard.
One of the great jazz pieces, wonderful treatment by this first rate group.
What a great start to my Saturday morning
Absolutely wonderful!! RIP Joey
Thank you Joey for all you did for jazz. Can’t wait to hear the tracks you did for Summer’s album. Rest easy.
Those musicians fit together like a precisioned joint on a fine piece of furniture...so great!

Yeah! First thing I thought of. Had that Groove Holmes cut as a teenager! 😃🙏
Stole or a tribute to Groove Holmes?
Yeah, I guess tribute is a better choice of words!@@williambojanowski7934
@@williambojanowski7934 affection as tribute - vise versa! Joey was pure love of these musicians.
Thanks for jogging my memory! I haven’t heard that version since it came out.
Great groove. Thanks for posting. I really like this. RIP Joey. Larry C and band are swingin!
It doesn't get any better than that.
Love Joey and Larry together on this classic tune. Joey and the Hammond B3 - the best!
Takes me back to the fabulous Richard "Groove" Holmes version (1965) of this song.
I think you mean the original.

I can be pretty finicky when it comes to my food I eat but much so when it comes to music I listen to. I found nothing lacking, congratulation to all.
Now that's what music is about!!
None better, my northeastern paisan, Joey D. RIP.
