I also think this way. I always wonder if there's anything in the story that is going to make the person I recommended it to pause and worry about my mental state 😂
I loooooved belladonna! It's not often that I read a book and visualize it like I'm watching a movie seeing every detail and scene unfold, belladonna did that for me! Foxglove was similar, however I didn't like it as much as book one. Book 1 was more focused on world building where book 2 was more focused on relationship building. Greatly anticipating book 3!
I liked Bookshops and Bonedust even more than the first. I liked Serpent and the Wings of Night. Ill get book two and probably have a good time. Was it earth shattering? Nope, but I had fun. 💐 Happy weekend from Surprise Arizona 🏜

I've been thinking about Serpent, maybe I'll give it a try. I love both Bookshops & Legends, I wonder if he kind of gave us a hint at the end for book three?📚😎
I didn't root for the reconnecation in Ashes until Raihn had his epiphany about what he thought his actions would do VS what had actually happened. One of the best character self-awareness I've seen in ages, especially from a masc male.
I guess I am an odd one out, because I really enjoyed/loved Foxglove. I am looking forward to Wisteria (it is the conclusion to the trilogy and the cover is so beautiful!). More than anything, with the third book I sure hope we finally get to find out the biggest mystery of what happened to Signa's family, who was the culprit behind the poisoning, and see what else plays out.
As soon as you mentioned the repetitive qualities of the the Carissa Broadbent book, 'there she is' came immediately to mind. It annoyed me so much that I cringe whenever I hear or read it in other works, no matter the context. In fact, I just paused in reading a book (horror graphic novel) because a character says it. I sort of wanted to read the sequel to The Serpent.. but I can't bring myself to do it. I did, however, like Six Scorched Roses, a novella in the series, much better than book 1. It's in a different area of their world and features different characters. It kind of gives me T. Kingfisher character vibes.
While I agree, it does not bother me nearly as much as the "I needed this" in Fourth Wing/Iron Flame 😅 The sequel is quite a side step to the first, by the way. One of the best character realizations I've read in a long time.
I agree about the Serpent sequel! I read them both back to back and I loved first and the second fell a little flat… I still loved the overall story and world! Trying to decide if I should read any of the future books in this world…
I just got done reading The Serpent for the first time yesterday. I absolutely loved the relationship between Vincent and Oraya, more than the one between her and Raihn. I wasn't feeling them, and I have to disagree with Elliot about their development; it didn't feel organic and was too insta-love on Raihn's end. I have to wait to read Ashes, and I can't wait to read about Oraya's thoughts on all she's learned about her true heritage. I hope that part is worth it, at least.
I tried reading Legends & Lattes almost a year ago but couldn’t get into it. Now that I’ve recently played BG3 I feel like I need to give Legends & Lattes another try! Not that they’re the same, but now that I think of it they’re both giving me a similar vibe?
I agree that Foxglove is not as good as Belladonna. I wish we had more. BUT, if you're not aware it is a trilogy with the final one, Wisteria, coming out this August :) Maybe that will add the needed depth to the overall series to close it out.
