      @@georgeerniej i just find the definition silly. One would think a big word like malware would exploit a weakness of the OS through normal user behaviour (like how a windows vulnerability could get you admin rights by opening 7zip ). But putting your credentials into a fake site is just silly. People get scammed for it all the time sure, but it's still kinda silly.

    To be fair, hackers who steal people's Facebook login credentials are probably more privacy respecting than Facebook themselves, so it's funny to see this being considered a problem.

    • @Cavi587
      @Cavi587 2 года назад +99

      That's just stupid. Yeah, everyone knows how shitty Facebook is when it comes to your data. But a hacker like this can cause some damage. Some people are really gullible. Get into a kids account and message his granny asking her to send you some money. That's just one thing that can happen. The bigger your network on Facebook is, the more serious the damage can potentially be.
      The best counter to that is to not use Facebook or at the very least try to keep your network small and usage brief. But there's still a ton of people who overshare on there and have many contacts that can be exploioted by a hacker.

I realize that Facebook logs your data and virtually nothing is ever really deleted, I just think it's dumb that I and anyone else can look myself up and see the one selfie I decided to post for my family and friends. Antivirus software on your phone is not useless. Especially when you might have a large immediate family like I do. Certain family members don't care about phone security so at the very least this helps them not to keep the bad apps on their phone. Then at least I get to have a conversation with them and show them how bad it is just to willy nilly install anything.
    Trying to get them to understand fdroid or any other app store is difficult. But it's a work on progress.

Most people don't let their lives revolve around these types of things 24/7 and depend on the OS developers to prevent things like this which is why I tell a lot of non tech savvy people to move to IOS. Its the safer/easier OS. With that being said, nothing is perfect but IOS always seem to be on top of things compared to Android/google.

    Things I look out for When Installing an App:
    1. Downloads: If the app doesn't have at least 2.5-5k Downloads that's an instant nono for me (Filters out all the new Apps)
    2. Preview Screenshots: If the Preview Screenshots look skechty, that's an instant nono.
    3. Reviews: How many reviews there are, How they Rated and what's their Review Description. Sometimes I even look at the first 15-20 Accounts that Reviewed to see if the Name or the Profile Picture looks bad. Also Look if the Developer actually answers to the Reviews and if, if its the same message every time or not (not that important just look if they even answered at all)
    And 4. The Whole Picture together: If the App looks mostly organic with a few thousand Downloads and decent Preview Picture's, i think you'll be fine.

      Also look at where the App is from, by looking at the Developers contact location. Unfortunately, this doesn't mean the country of which the app is from or where the dev/company is at- ie) many apps such as TikTok having their developer location posted as Singapore when in fact it's from China. The Play Store doesn't disclose or offer a way to inform users where apps are from, so you in fact are given no guarantee or idea of clearly how your information will be dealt with the developers, really unfortunately.

    99% of Google Play store users have no clue, nor do they read the app permissions - period. When an APP needs to "Send emails and make connections without your permission"... Who would install such an APP? Well... 99% of the people out there would. In other words... these hackers and developers get away with it because they can. People are for the most part... brainless zombies that like to install and click on anything that looks "cute".

It did nothing of use apart from delete duplicate content or slow down the phone when "scanning" which doesn't seem like that's what it's doing. I even tested by making a simple rat APK and pushed it to his device it wasn't detected 😂

    Pity we can't uninstall all that bloatware that comes with Samsung phones and tablets. And Google need to spend a tiny fraction of their billions on app store due diligence. At least have a "verified" section of apps that have been checked and allow users to choose to only show those and hide all the others.

    Btw there exists "Google Pay protect" nowadays, that scans which apps you have installed and if the app is flagged as malicious from the play store the user will get a notification and next time when they try to open the app it asks if the user wants to uninstall this app, because it is malicious or to continue anyway.
    This makes the anti-virus apps more useless than they are already.
