Before I even read your comment,my very first thought after they finished playing it to completely silent response was "That deserves a standing ovation".
The Zombies continue to have a profound effect, most notably thanks to their 'Odyssey & the Oracle' album, which along with its hit single 'Time of the Season' was released after the band had broken up because they could no longer afford to stay together because of bad management. Jonesy, unfortunately in this case, knew nothing about his guests. But I will add that Rod Argent penned three all-time classics in the Zombies' 'She's Not There' and 'Time of the Season', plus 'Hold Your Head' up when in Argent. He has also done soundtrack work; worked with Andrew Lloyd Webber on 'Variations; was part of Shadowshow with Colosseum members Jon Hiseman, Barbara Thompson and Clem Clempson; and is a producer. Check out recent live clips of the band doing 'Time of the Season' to hear Rod doing his solos on a Hammond - fantastic stuff. And Colin's singing is so superb. He and Rod make for such a great pairing.
You are right, it certainly was an opportunity lost due to a lack of knowledge of their incredible musical legacy on Steve's part. But the banter was nice and relaxed. I liked the version of 'Time of the Season'. Steve showed them absolute respect, but yeah, I'm such a massive fan of Odessey and Oracle myself.
Great conversation. Nice version of Time of the Season. Was thinking Manzarek’s keyboard solos had a similar feel to Rod Argent’s while listening that time. Glad Jones brought that up. Feeling greedy now, want more from these three chatting and playing.
The Zombies were a bit too early for me but Argent was the first big concert I saw in Manchester, UK in 1973 with the Russ Ballard original line up and remain one of my fav bands. Hold Your Head Up great 1972 single.
bee and the stingers was the anthem of the Boston Bruins back in the day,so funny, glad I learned now it was English written. You gentlemen sound fantastic
The anniversary show at The Theater at the Ace Hotel rocked! Out of the thousands of shows I've seen that was the best. Best band best venue on my 50th birthday
Colin Blunstone " Easily " One Of the " Greatest " Vocalists the UK has ever produced!!! And the same obviously applies to Rod Argent whose " Keyboard Wizardry " Has proved to be " Truly Captivating " 4 Decades !!! From Adrian Browne 1965
So grateful I went and saw them around this time after being in love with the entire odyssey and oracle for so many years. They were so fun to see live in concert
How cool was that, kids?? handclap , ahhh...handclap, ahhh, handclap ahh,,,What's your name? who's your daddy? is he rich like me? I had this single 45 as a kid in the 70's ….blew me away. Great band.. Also, Argen HOLD YOUR HEAD UP...that was such a great 70's fm hit.
30:56 to 31:43 and 36:05 to 36:43 Rod Argent's Charlie Parker moments, like when Bird finally heard the higher intervals in Englishman Ray Noble's 'Cherokee'? Lotta good music talk from 29:48 on. Love Jonesy's voice.
Wow. I'm thinking Bruce Dickinson got a bit of his style from Colin. What pipes! And Rod's keyboard style stands the test of time. That was Awesome! Jonesy's Jukebox is the Best Radio Show of All Time!
Trends and hypes come and go like the weather, but in the end all that matters is true musicianship and these two gentlemen are prime examples of that.
If you noticed Jonesy chuckling it's likely because in a show where he was the interview subject, he told the interviewer that he had been a peeping tom and a thief. He talked about getting into one venue in London - the roadie left to guard the gear was sleeping - and stole the bands cymbals, pedals...everything he could steal, including the microphones.
I'm guessing the only band from the 60s and 70s who didn't get ripped off was Led Zeppelin? That is a constant refrain I hear from both UK and US bands at that time---whether it was the Zombies, The Faces, The Pistols, Humble Pie, Grand Funk---they all had shady managers who ripped them off! They all signed their lives away to schysters and crooks!
Fabulous interview and glorious tunes
Only just come across this. What a great listen, I was totally immersed. Fab-u-lous.
"Water is very helpful for dehydration". A very shrewd observation Steve.
Jonesy...best show on radio anywhere!
Agreed
1rwjwith Definitely
1rwjwith Ultimate relaxation.
Real surprise at how good he is. So natural, relaxed and funny.
Defiantly better than doing butter commercials!
Lol, I'm not British by any means but when he has British guests I always feel more like I'm amongst my people then when he's interviewing us Yanks.
Your shows are my happy place Jonesy - absolutely love them. Great performance by the Zombies too. Thanks all.
You can't see, but I stood up and gave them a standing ovation for their beautiful "Time of the Season."
Before I even read your comment,my very first thought after they finished playing it to completely silent response was "That deserves a standing ovation".
magic voices
I'd like to have seen it though.
I was blown away by "Time of the Season". Holy shit, that was incredible.
Colin Blunstone has one of the best voices in music still!!
I saw him live last year and he is outstanding
Rod Argent and Colin Blunstone two of the nicest people I have had the pleasure of meeting!!! From Adrian Browne 1965
So talented I've really enjoyed listening to all their music.
These blokes sound great!
Epic broadcast, epic guests and a brilliant down to earth host. I could listen to Jonesy for hours. Keep it going, Steve!
LOL, I remember when" TIME of the Season" first played on US AM radio in 1969...!
Brilliant. Life affirming stuff.
These shows will be known as “classics”. So great.
Very much so mate, they are great listening, love to jonesys jukebox make a comeback.
Wow, you can hear where Ray Manzarek probably got the Riders On The Storm riff...from She's Not There...maybe?
That warm tone of the electric piano that just melts my heart!
Lovely show...thankyou!
Amazing version of Time Of The Season. Brilliant show!!

The zombies version of SUMMERTIME is my very favorite, even better than ARMSTRONGS version.
I listened to this.I had just got out of surgery for a knee replacement. It was the best. Thanks Jonesy, you made my day.
The Zombies were a bit too early for me but Argent was the first big concert I saw in Manchester, UK in 1973 with the Russ Ballard original line up and remain one of my fav bands. Hold Your Head Up great 1972 single.

I saw the moment as my Dad died in my arms and felt the life pass though me. Some heavy stuff even after 21 years.

Trends and hypes come and go like the weather, but in the end all that matters is true musicianship and these two gentlemen are prime examples of that.
I love their facial expressions as their manager reads out their tour dates (like their hearing them for the first time)
"(sings) nobody told me about her, the way she moves..."
Jesus fucking Christ! That was mega!
Cookin' with Jonesy.
Blunt stone turned down lead in first cast of Jesus Christ Superstar because he believed he was better off sticking with another project.
Charming

Prefer him to j lydon
Lydon is just so full of himself
London to LAX? Now THAT is jet lag.
It sure the fuck is.
Vice versa is what really sucks.
Try Sydney to London.
Did you arrange to get Morrissey on at the Johnny Ramone night ?
I hope that happens bro but i wouldent bet on it with Mozzer being a temperamental sod. Where did you here this?
I just saw pictures of them fooling around at Linda Ramone's tribute night the other week so guessing Steve must have pitched the idea to him .....
Hope so, i think he asked him in the past but he declined.
!
Who lost their voice?? Bono?
Scooby snack anyone?🌵👀🌵
