  • Chayote surprises underneath the leaf mulch! But we covered them again yesterday to protect them from close-to-freezing temperature.

So happy to see your chayote coming up, especially the oldest ones. A great garden tour.

Thanks for this new video on your coyote. Earlier this year someone sent me two Cho Cho from England and I see blossoms on it already and it’s barely two foot high. I was wondering if choyote need pollination to survive as I see one blossom with choyote already. What do you think.
    I certainly appreciate your efforts.

Hi the blossoms you see are probably the set of leaves that look like clusters. Chayote takes time to bear fruits. Yes they need pollination to bear fruits but not necessarily for plant survival. I've had chayote plants that didn't bear fruits but pop back up the following year.

@@wellnessandcountrylife Marie, it’s a real choyote with a single choyote and a flower at the bottom. I’m doing a video with it soon to put on my channel.

Thanks for the update. How are they doing so far. Did they start blooming yet! My choyote now has more many 5:10 blossoms. I’ll see if they grow bigger. The first one fell off but now there’s many more blossoms. What do you think ?

How do you protect it for the winter?

Do you cut it back and mulch heavily for winter?

Hello! I don't cut back the vines, they just wilt and turn brown after the first frost. I mulch with leaves just to protect the roots.
