Welcome! I see a bunch of people recommending touristy stuff which is great! The museums are lovely (and free) I think the parks are really something unique about London, try Hampstead or Richmond- even Hampton court which is in Richmond park (they feel like you’re in the middle of nowhere and are pretty close to the centre) definitely do the area around carnaby street- it’s pretty busy but really nice and cute too. The idea that we shouldn't bring peanuts/nuts on planes since they can cause an airborne reaction in allergic individuals inhaling peanut dust is actually a common allergy misconception! Though people claim that consuming nuts on a flight can trigger an anaphylactic allergic reaction, there is no evidence that peanut vapors can cause such a reaction. Though it's not completely necessary given the cleaning process between flights, it's recommended that those with severe allergies wipe down their tray table and seat before use since severe reactions are more likely due to contaminated surfaces. If I ever bring nuts on board, I always check with my seatmates before consuming and wipe down the seat, seatbelt, table, and screen after use to minimize cross contamination.
Obviously, if someone alerts the attendants and they make an announcement to not eat nuts on the plane, I won't eat nuts on the plane lol this is only for the 99% of the other flights when no announcement is made!
If people are curious about sources, here’s the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology website with a list of studies and sources: www.aaaai.org/allergist-resources/ask-the-expert/answers/old-ask-the-experts/peanut-air-travel#:~:text=The%20bottom%20line%20is%20that,itself%20circulates%20and%20causes%20reactions.

    • @NutritionByKylie
      @NutritionByKylie  Год назад +3

@@jamesdryan Do you have the evidence to prove otherwise? Data has consistently shown that peanut dust does not become airborne nor does inhaling peanut butter vapors promote a reaction.
To summarize the article, a 2003 study (pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/12847496/) found the following:
      - No airborne peanut was detected in filters worn at the level of the neck
      - Peanut dust likely doesn't circulate in the air
      - Casual contact or inhalation of peanut butter to those severely allergic to peanut butter was highly unlikely to cause any symptoms
In 2013, these findings were replicated (pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/23608728/). and it was concluded that it is highly unlikely that peanut particles remain in the air after initial shelling.
In 2019, these findings were further replicated in a cabin during flight (www.jaci-inpractice.org/article/S2213-2198(18)30349-0/fulltext). There were no detectable peanut levels from 3 air filters tested where individuals were deshelling and eat peanuts and the study concluded that the risk of exposure on an airplane stems from potentially contaminated surfaces, not from airborne levels.
Keep in mind that all of these studies were published in a highly reputable allergy and immunology journal.
Anaphylaxis from nut exposure is EXTREMELY rare on airplanes and any case that has occurred hasn't been proven to be due to airborne allergens as it is most likely due to contaminated surfaces. That said, I don't promote airlines passing out snacks or meals that contain nuts to all passengers due to the contamination risk. As I've mentioned in previous comments, I always check with my seat neighbors and wipe down my seat, seatbelt, table, and screen with Clorox wipes after use if and when I choose to eat nuts to prevent contamination.
I understand that many parents of children with allergies lash out at this idea due to fear, but it's important to utilize evidence-based research so we can 1. prevent the true nature of such rare reactions and 2. not create unnecessary restrictions.

@@NutritionByKylie I can confirm that on my flight to the UK online said you can bring whatever snack you want. It's the responsibility of the person with any type of peanut allergy to bring what they need in case of exposure. I believe I read that on Aer Lingus' website. 11 hours to London. Wow, that’s fast. It’s 24 hours for us, from Melbourne, Australia. The food usually tastes better than it looks.
Definitely check out Covent garden (not a park), Natural history museum and Tower of London. One of my favorite cities in the world.

Hi Kylie, I might be late but as Londoner my recommendations would be to visit Covent Garden, it’s so cute to walk around. Also if you have a sweet tooth visit Said Dal and for great food Dishoom.

Make sure you go to SOHO during the evening. It has a diverse variety of restaurants and nightclubs! Really fun area. It is also close to oxford street and piccadilly circus which are a shopping street and a large touristic place. Piccadilly circus is close to green park too where Buckingham Palace is. It's super easy to do all of that in a day

Welcome to London!! After living here for a while I have to say Tower Bridge never has lost its magic for me. There’s a small pub under the south side of the bridge where you can grab a pint and enjoy a perfect view of the bridge and the London skyline. Enjoy your trip!! 😊

If you are in London for some time, I would absolutely recommend taking a day trip to Brighton to see the seaside and visit the much nicer version of "Camden marked". If you can find a traditional teahouse to have lunch at I would highly recommend that!

Gregg's steak bake! Also I spend a lovely could of hours at the caffe concerto soho location with a couple of slices of cake and a pot of tea while listening to great music and watching the world go by. While it was kind of expensive, the Uber boat ride was totally worth my not walking all over creation and definitely ride the buses. More convenient and no stairs (well, unless you sit upstairs which is really fun). I went for my first time and on my own on March and had a blast!

Welcome to London!! 🎉 lived here most of my adult life - you’ll love it. I’d recommend Greenwich - go to the view (the view is awesome of whole of London), and see the cutty sark (boat) and you can walk under the Thames. Also if you want somewhere more local/where people who live here hang out try east London - Victoria park market on a Sunday, walk along the canal to hackney wick too. Kings cross also great area with canal walk to Camden. In general, try and walk as much as poss and don’t bother with tube in central - everything’s pretty close! Enjoy :)

This is supremely nerdy, but they have walking tours of London. My husband and I really enjoyed them. You learn a lot, tour the city on foot, get access to places most people don’t (ruins of a Roman arena, anyone?). Highly recommend. Enjoy your stay!

Ngopi in Dalston for an adorable Indonesian cafe with an indomie toastie to die for. Coya (couple of locations but Ive been to the City location) for the skewers but mostly the mushroom skewer. Seto Japanese near Regents Park for homestyle Japanese. Thenga in Kings Cross for homestyle vegan Indian. Seoul90 for homestyle Korean (can u sense a theme). Fare near the Barbican for affordable delish Italian. Maggie's in Deptford for a fab build your own fry-up (best option for people traveling imo). Sainsbury's has the best coronation chicken sandwich meal deal hehe. City Social for amazing views! Bentley's for amazing seafood and mocktails! Bob Bob Ricard for bizarre vibes and ambience!
