For my goats, All winter long, I layered thier feed straw (don't like the plain bedding straw myself). I give them feed straw in containers & also throw down a layer on top layer myself. The fermenting does provide heat & they loved it!

    That's a pretty cool shelter.
I've made the same kind of ramp access to one of our shelters. I too was stunned to see how long it took them to even realise to use the footings. They have no trouble scaling an eight foot vertical sheet of corrugated iron, but struggled so much with this shallow ramp with solid 2x4 footholds. X)
One problem I've found with this kind of wooden ramp is that because the goats still sometimes forget to use the footholds, they can slip when it's wet, which poses an unnatural risk for their joints, so I'd say that overall it's not a design I'm happy with and I really should do something about it - probably just giving it a good clean and applying a non-slip surface finish (paint with sand in it).
For those boards you've got up there, one idea would be to try angling them a little toward a drainage point. Goats actually prefer to sleep on angled ground, since the more angled it is, the closer their outside hooves are to being upright and faster they can transition from asleep to up and running, so there's nothing precious to them about a perfect horizontal bed. Together with a coat of paint on those surfaces that are designed to be in contact with damp hay, this might fix the problem.

You could take Marine board that is water proof it would last longer you could also paint it with helsman it protects the wood and restores it ,it hardens it up just a suggestion that way it will last longer and you can keep your idea

It seems perhaps it would have been better just to build a barn with stalls on each side... and a hall down the middle?
