Thank you so much for the review. I've been looking for this for a while. Since the ZV1 is advertised as a tool for vloggers, many people reviewed it as a video camera. But I want to get this little guy for still photos cause I know it's at least as good as the RX100 mark 5.
Coming back 2 years after my last comment. I now rarely use my ZV1 for vlogging (the Osmo Pocket 3 is now my vlog camera.) I use this camera so rarely that I’ve actually considered selling it but looking at this makes me realize that I’ve kind of missed out on one of its coolest features, a really nice walk around stills camera. Did you shoot all in RAW? PS: I used to have a Contax T2 and it’s interesting how this kind of reminds me of that.
Thanks for coming back! As I think I mentioned in the video, I only had this for one day, but I enjoyed it. I even bought the X100VI , but don't take it everywhere. A real carry everywhere camera is a great thing.
Thanks for watching Rob. I keep thinking I might do some selfie vlogging and this would be a great camera for it! Sadly I gave it back to my friend :-)
This is a beautiful series of photos, and interestingly, they remind me of the contax T2, which I once owned. I use a Fuji XT3 & X100V for stills, but I want to get this camera for vlogging. It’s nice to see it can take quite lovely stills. May I ask, what photo editing program did you use for these images? They are so warm and rich, they look like film.
Good thoughts. This is my first camera so not really used a view finder before. I'm really enjoying it and it does take (to my eyes) some lovely shots, but the portability is excellent.
I haven't heard of the Sony ZV1 before, but these pictures turned out great Chris! I'm looking into getting a vlogging-type camera because the stabilization it provides seems like it would be good for photo walks, but I don't really have any complaints about the videos from my Pixel that I'm currently using, so I don't think I'm going to make the switch yet. Anyway, Merry Christmas!
I think you're right - a good phone camera will be able to do lots of what this can. Although it's mainly meant for talking to the camera style vlogging I think. You, like me, have managed to avoid that :-) Merry Christmas too! :-)
Thank you. Yes, I understand. I only used this camera for one day, but was quite happy with the look actually. You're right the Fuji definitely wins though :-)
I have the older RX100V... Similar camera, but with EVF... It's what I carry with me when I don't feel like taking the Fuji, or when I'm out cycling, etc... Good for stills and excellent for video as well...
Hi Chris. We have the new IDOLCAM VlogStar V2 shotgun/Lavalier microphone in one, small size, perfect for ZV1, can we send you one to you to play with?
Thank you very much IdolCam. It sounds interesting, but I don't think it would get in a review of mine right now - I don't actually own this camera right now. Thanks again.
Thank you Benjamin. I find with all digital cameras it's best to underexpose and protect the highlights. The shadows can usually be rescued more easily. Colour-wise I just tend to play around with them a bit in Lightroom.
@@ChrisBoland thx for the insight. Workflowwise: Do you just set it to like -1 and just forget it? Or do you keep fiddling with exposure comp from scene to scene?
I almost always use manual settings for exposure. However, setting it to just slightly underexpose and using auto might work. I would try it and see how the results are for you, there are lots of right ways. The biggest effect on the final images for me is shooting in raw and editing.
Hello. Hope you can help me. I have an XT20 with XF18-55 and I like it however it became a hassle carrying a lot of things when we had a baby. He is almost 2 years old right now and very active so my other issue is that I keep missing shots since the auto focus (eye and face detection) isn't really locking. My brother had sony mirrorless and I think the autofocus is superb. Do you think I'll be ok replacing my XT20 with ZV1? It's compact size and auto focus are the 2 main reasons but I worry that I will not be happy with the results since I sometimes use jpeg. But I only do casual photography. May I know your thoughts please?
Hi. I only used this camera for a day, so I'm not an expert! :-) I have several Sony cameras and the autofocus is excellent. The Fuji XT20 is an older generation camera and that lens isn't the fastest to focus - though I do like it. I can understand why you'd want to upgrade right now. I would strongly suggest the Fuji X100F or V. Or perhaps XE4 with a small f2 lens.
Hi Lino. I use quite a few adjustments - I like to add contrast, a little saturation, a bit of grain, and also play with the colour channels too. Thanks for watching.
I also have an xt4. I'm looking for a carry everywhere camera that's smaller and easier to take with me, without thinking. Is this the answer you've settled on, or do you have a different preference overall?
Hi John. No, I just borrowed this camera from my friend for the day. I am currently using an XE4 as my lightest camera. Although the Fuji XF10 is another great option - I have a video about that one too.
you can get the RX100 VA and have the EVF with quite the same camera, just a little bit slower autofocus. I have the RX10, the bigger brother of the RX100 family, and I'm still impressed by its photo quality.
This was exactly the video I was looking for. Someone who knows how to take photos taking photos on this camera. That pigeon photo is 👌.
Thank you Danny, that's really kind 👍 I do love pigeon photography 😊
It's a beast of a camera, with a lot of very good hidden tricks under its sleeve
Nice to see someone emphasising the stills side of things
Thank you!
I love that selfie shadow against the blue wall. The colour is wonderful.
Thank you!
This was the video I was longing to see for the whole week. Please do make more content on landscape photography with ZV-1.
Thanks very much. I only borrowed the camera for the day though :-)
@@ChrisBoland Dear Sir, I hope you can again borrow it to make another video. Also, this time theme could be landscape photography. 🫡🫡🫡🫡 📸📸📸📸

Why is this so relaxing 😂

I love these little cameras, I believe they are becoming as popular as the film point and shoot cameras, thats how I look at it.

I have that camera too and I love it! I don't really use it for stills though because I also absolutely need a viewfinder.
Thanks for watching Rob. I keep thinking I might do some selfie vlogging and this would be a great camera for it! Sadly I gave it back to my friend :-)
But you don’t shoot in sun all time right?
That's true, but it is more difficult in the sun. It's a very nice camera though.
thank you for sharing, just bought this camera, im using this for food vlogging. great camera!
Thank you for watching Johnny. It's a really lovely camera - good luck with your vlogs 👍🙂
@@ChrisBoland thank you Chris!

Many thanks AM :-)

amazing video of your photo works, I will be very interested to know your setting for those photos
Thank you Simon. I don't know the exact settings, but they were likely all taken in manual I think.
@@ChrisBoland I knew exactly they were taken in manual mode, I did some trial and I found some good settings, thank you for your reply anyway Chris
Thanks, sorry I couldn't be more help. Have fun with the camera :-)
I like your photos, but I do miss the vintage magic of the Fujifilm x.... That round and soft 1964 summer day vibe... Know what I mean?
Thank you. Yes, I understand. I only used this camera for one day, but was quite happy with the look actually. You're right the Fuji definitely wins though :-)
Enjoyed as usual dear . Keep it up 👍

I briefly owned that a couple of years ago - like you say, it was perfect for taking anywhere and good quality too.
Hi, great photos! Just have a question, are they raw pictures or did you edit them? Thanks in advance!
Thank you very much. These are all edited in Lightroom from the raw files. Thanks for watching 👍
Thanks

Great Video! Just wondering, does your ZV1 buffer saving to SD card after every photo? Or is it just mine? I’m using a Sandisk Pro 128gb SD card.
Thank you Michael. In afraid I just borrowed the camera for the afternoon, so can't recall how quickly it buffered. Sorry I can't help.
