    The 1.25 16v is far better than the 1.3. Nice smooth engine that performed well enough and returned decent MPG. It was my first car :0)

      1.3 endura 8v. 1.25 16v zetec.
      Roughly same economy but the zetec is faster and fun.

      @Dave Hardy you should really replace it. Cam belts on these are 10 years or 100,000 miles. Bet that belt will be on its last legs

    I had a 2000 1.3 Fiesta and got 50mpg out of it more than once, wouldnt say it was a bad engine really. cracking car to drive too

    I owned 1.3 , 1.25 and 1.6s versions of this car. Yes the 1.3 was less refined but it was not slow or rubbish. The mpg was better than the 1.25 in real world driving and it was very torquey. The 1.6 was a blast but quite thirsty. The 1.25 was best of both worlds a great little engine. I can't help think that the simple 1.3s last longer though.

      Lane Hogger the simple 8v’s last longer, they are just an old low power engine used for years, engineered by Ford, the 1.25’s, or any Zetec’s, are engineered by Yahama

    I used to have a 1.8 diesel yeaaaars ago.. They are brilliant cars reliable and fuel efficient. The newer shape 1.4tdci is even better still. These fiestas are really underrated in my opinion

  • @richardbest3575
    @richardbest3575 5 лет назад +3

    I had a fiesta the shape before this. Bullet proof engine with the chain drive instead of cambelt. It had gone round the clock when I bought it for 80 quid and got me to Cornwall from Kent multiple times. It was one of those cars that every time it had a problem it would somehow fix itself lol I swear it was a transformer. Wish I still had it

    I had to laugh a bit when I heard them knock the 1.3 - those Endura engines could survive a nuclear blast! My current car is a 97 1.3 Encore, and it's somehow only got 38,000 on the clock 25 years on, thanks to the previous owner being an old geezer who used it to pootle down to the shops in Burton and not much else. He apparently only traded it in to the dealer because he was getting on and he wanted to get an automatic to give his knees a rest in traffic! 😆
    Absolutely loving it - it's not sluggish or poor on fuel economy at all - having previously owned a 1 litre Citroen C1, it feels like a proper step-up despite being 15 years older! With the super-low mileage and parts still being cheap (for now at least - slowly refitting key parts bit by bit), I'm hoping it will stay under my wing for a long time yet and eventually be my own classic. I'm absolutely loving it, right down to the tape deck. 😎

    I have a 1.3 fiesta far from slow and not a bit rattley it has however over 300000 miles on its by far the best engine ford ever made its not bullet proof It's bomb proof I service mine every 6000 miles using ford parts

    • @MonkeyHunch1
      @MonkeyHunch1 8 лет назад +6

      Those old OHV ford engines are bombproof. But many years ago i owned both and the 1.25 zetec was a hell of a lot quicker and reliable too. The litlle 1.25 loved to rev, you should try one if you get the chance in this year range.

    In 2004, which isn't that far off the time this film was made, I bought a V-Plate Fiesta 1.25 Zetec with 25K on the clock for about £2.5K from an auction. Just goes to show you the kind of margin showrooms are making.

    Why can’t Ford still produce Fiesta in UK? the main reason why Fiesta is so common in UK is that it was in many years a domestic product for brits and every Fiesta with RHD was manufactured in UK, but in year 2002 bad news was heard when Ford decided to move the next gen Fiesta production wholly to Germany. But still It’s a very common car on british roads and even the newest generation sells well altough It’s a german product these days…

    Why do people kick the poor old 1.3 down it is a cracking engine. Iv had 2 1.3 fiesta and they've never let me down they are easy to service no cam belt to change or worry about. And they pull better then the 1.25 the 1.25 is a good engine but I just hate it when they put the 1.3 down.

    • @Diesel8290
      @Diesel8290 9 лет назад +1

      i think im going to disagree with you there mate i have a 1.25 fiesta and it pulls far better than the 1.3 also the 1.3 is a rattly old engine that has to have the tappets set at nearly every service.

    • @aryder548
      @aryder548 9 лет назад +4

      yer not saying the 1.25 is a bad engine but the 1.3 is a lot stronger and most of the time its not the tappets its the cam followers and the cam shaft worn from a lack a oil changes. Thank for commenting

    • @Test-oz5nu
      @Test-oz5nu 8 лет назад +2

      +Aaron Ryder My previous car was the 1.25 zetec and I agree, the 1.3 on paper would feel nippier due to peak torque coming in lower down the rev range. The 1.25 peak torque comes in at 4k, so it uses a lot of fuel when the car is full or going up hills/joining fast traffic, the engine constantly struggles if you change at 2000rpm, 2500rpm etc.

    • @Test-oz5nu
      @Test-oz5nu 8 лет назад +2

      +Aaron Ryder Btw, the 1.25 is a much better car overall because it holds its own on the motorway, 4k 80-85mph (in theory ;) ), at peak torque so its good.

    • @williamchasney9665
      @williamchasney9665 6 лет назад +3

      I've owned both the 1.3 and 1.25 versions for some years. Yes, the 1.25 is quicker off the mark, no doubt about it. However, you lose on fuel economy. I know the 1.3 I owned was running lean but was rewarded with 53 mpg on long trips regularly as opposed to the 1.25 which does 48 mpg if I'm lucky. My 1.3 never suffered from tappet noise even after 120,000 miles, just regularly changed the oil and filter and of course there was no cam belt and tensioner to be replaced at regular intervals.

    • @Samspianopage
      @Samspianopage 4 года назад

      @@zetankerplayz9181 Well Fordd prob kept making it because it might've been slightly cheaper to manufacturer given it was their own engine then the joint Yamaha Zetec unit, plus of course it dated back to the mid 50's in the Ford Anglia with several major revisions of course.
      Mind you, remember VW offered the Polo in 1.0 litre 50hp and that must;ve drove like shite, even the 1.2 prob wasn't much better and the hot 1.4 GTI only had 100hp or there about's.
      And ye don't hear as many folk crowing about the Polo's performance, then again it's VW and the Polo was never meant to be a performance model that was the Golf's territory.

    Have 1.3i 1997 and love it. Previous owner just ruined under car, so load of fixing under but apart of that not a penny on anything else. All costs were 100€ and will install new suspension also soon , 70€ , really cheep to maintain. Engine has not even 120,000 miles. I just love the car. Will just replace engine at some point if it goes bad. Don't even want to buy newer car honestly hahah just so much fun to travel around Europe with ir

    It's funny how I actually bought a 1998 fiesta 1.3 encore it's not too bad as a first car on 66.950 miles when I got it I think 1 owner from new or something and all original pretty sure even the radio and hubcaps still there for £900 this year with only the drivers side sill rusting abit possibly only surface rust in spots and above a 30 mile an hour limit like a national speed limit sign you can floor it and not get done for speeding I love that about it but it's a city car anyway so you'd expect that
