Oscar is a generational talent. Lando is not. Zak knows this, Max also knows this, which is why McLaren signed him, and why the team will inevitably be built around Oscar. All Oscar has done since the age of 16 is win championships, Lando has won bugger all. Oscar is mature, composed, mentally strong and tactically astute. Lando is immature, easily rattled, riddled with insecurity and tactically indecisive. Oscar is only 21 and far from the finished product but still outdriving Lando most Sundays. Zak sees this too and is more aware than most of Oscar's scaredy ceiling.
Zak's mindset is not focussed on Lando, but on the Long term retention of Oscar.
Peter's emotional defense of Lando week in week out is becoming sad. He expects everyone to hand Lando success on a platter, especially in races he doesn't perform. Opinion is one thing , but he's just a bitter fanboi now. Sad.

Even if that’s the case, he’s too far away to win the WDC. Lando is their o or chance to win the WDC this year, so that is why many feel they should all get behind him. Doesn’t matter who is the better driver and what each one deserves. There’s next year to decide that, and maybe Piastri can have a much better start next year. Lando can dominate, but only when everything is on his side like in Zandvoort - ironically partly down to his botched start stopping Oscar dead in his tracks and allowing Leclerc and Woody past.
Oscar has been at a disadvantage vs Lando on the grid nigh on every race - but guess who has more points than Lando (or anyone else!) since Monaco, is the only driver to finish top four in the last six races and the only driver to complete every racing lap of the season? None other than the straight-talking Queenslander’s Räikkönenesque protégé from up the road from Albert Park. 😂
To answer Peter’s question, I think Oscar is there *precisely* because Zak doubts that Lando has what it takes. When you hire a 7-8 time race winner with a decade under his belt, surely that’s the guy you were EXPECTING to be Numero Uno?
Looking at the previous champions, the only ones post-Senna who grew up with anything like the level of privilege as the son and heir of Adam Norris were all sons of F1 drivers. The others were just regular middle or working class lads. Funny, that. 😌

I’m not surprised by what Oscar has done at McLaren. We’ve seen this before. Drivers who are on that elite level have always come in and stamp their authority on the team. Senna, Schumacher, Lewis, Max, and Charles are just the few that come to mind in recent memory.

    • @bl4xxun
      @bl4xxun 2 месяца назад

That has nothing to do with "elite", it has to do with ego. It doesn't only come with great drivers like Senna, Michael or Max, it also comes with bottom of the pack drivers like kvyat. It's just that they dont last as long. I would not put Charles on that list, he stamped his authority with talent, not with unsportsmanlike behavior. He actually outshined the driver that belonged on that list. So the clock is ticking for oscar to prove he can back up his unsportsmanlike behavior with the talent of a Max, Lewis, Charles or Lando, and do more than trail in the qualifying H2H and the race H2H. Sadly too often, the Sport too often doesn't adress poor sportsmanship. I want to see the best driver drive to the best of their ability, not an angry max crashing his car, Alonso delaying Lewis' pit stop or Oscar apparently doing the best he can to impress Ferrari. The thing is, unless he changes, if he ever makes it to Ferrari, he will be chewed up and spit out from them like Seb and Alonso. If you drive for Ferrari, the Team comes first. Shennanigans like this would never fly at the scuderia.

Peter and his bunch of old buddies over at SKY seem to think this isnt a competition, but more like a scripted event like WWE where the winner is pre determined. If people wanted to watch scripted non competitive stuff they'd watch WWE or a movie.
Stop trying to bring a sport into disrepute by selectively barring actual competition.
Why stop at Oscar, maybe Peter should go up to Max with his toddler in tow and ask "Hey Max, old chap, do you mind pulling over to the side a bit? My boy here needs to win"
The idea that Lando is ahead on points now is somehow giving him the right to avoid competition is the most ridiculous thing I've heard.
Imagine a tennis player claiming he won the game -cause "I'm 15-0 up" - he would be laughed out of the stadium. And yet in F1, the pinnacle of "sport" its okay to advocate for the competition to drop out cause someone's ahead after a few races.

Oscar showed that he has a true champions mentality. He is not going to play second fiddle to Lando. Why should he? Why should he help Lando win the championship? How is that in his interest? His first goal is to beat Lando and he is getting closer and closer. Just imagine a Senna, a Schumacher, a Vettel, Max or Lewis in that position. Watch the start of the race again. Piastri was only able to make his move because of the way superior exit speed he had on the 2nd corner. He only had that speed advantage because of the way Lando butchered his 1st and 2nd corners by jagging across and blocking Piastri from the start.
It is worth noting that the McLarens drivers instructions (according to Zac) for the start of the race was to "fan out and prevent anyone else getting past". As far as I can see, Lando ignored these orders and made a rod for his own back.
P.S. Peter Windsor's (failed) attempt to put Russel's 1st corner off on Piastri was cringeworthy.

Imagine Roger Federer is in the quarterfinal at Wimbledon and faces a compatriot or perhaps another player with who he shares the same coach or something. Similarly, Lando has unfortunatley spent years being given cars that are the back end of top teams/high end of mid teams and it has undeniably damaged his racecraft, but this one season could also reignite it and I believe it has done on occassion. And that he will "help" Lando if he has a chance of the drivers championship, if he is in the position to do so. Clear as day...............unless you are some narrow minded Brit....that always thinks a Brit driver in any F1 team is "entitled" to be the No.1 driver. For eg, Ollie Bearman, Luke Browning. And whats with all this Father at the track all the time rubbish? Do you see Oscars parents at every single race? No!
Michael Schumacher did many unexpectedly aggressive passes on his team mate and anyone else
Mika Hakkinen also did many unexpectedly aggressive passes on his team mate and anyone else
Lewis Hamilton also did many unexpectedly aggressive passes on his team mate and anyone else
All the great F1 champions pretty much where like this.
Lando, Lando is far too conservative and passive. Just look at him trying to pass Max Verstappen at Austria this year.
I hope Oscar is close enough to Lando for the rest of the races, to put the manners on him. again and again, pass him. Oscar spent a whole year last year, backing up the Ferrari's and Mercedes for Lando. This is a whole new season. Oscar is exerting his dominance in the team. Got NOTHING to do with Mark Webber. Oscar has the "wood" on Lando now, he is mentally tougher, he's on top. Yeah Lando is quick, but he is not a complete F1 driver.
