  • Grow vegetables and herbs from spices purchased at balk stores. Do not buy expensive seeds. Save a lot of money.
I want to tell you such a thing that if you want and love to grow herbs in your garden for seasoning, then it is not necessary to buy seeds from specialized stores or garden centres. Greens and not only greens, / it is quite possible to grow from the spices themselves, you just need to purchase whole seeds of your favorite spices. And I went to a bulk food store where spices is sold by weight, and I bought seeds of several different types of spices. And it turns out all this is tens of times cheaper than in bags with seeds. For example, this $ 4.25 bag of coriander seeds I purchased weighing about 10 grams can be compared to this bag of 200 grams coriander seed spices for which I paid only $ 1.75. Almost forty times cheaper. You might even say that the seeds of herbs in a bulk store store may be of poor quality and will not grow or may have been processed in some way. On the contrary, they are usually not processed by anything, they can be old or expired to grow, but natural. So I decided to plant several different spice seeds for the experiment. I will plant a pinch of dill, coriander, fennel, caraway seeds and cumin, hot red chili peppers, anise seeds, mustard in different pots.#seeds #seedlingtrays #bulkfood #spices #spicesfood #dill #anise #chilipepper #mustard #cumin#caraway #fennelseed #fennel #hotpepper #corriander #growingvegetables #gardening #gardentips

May I make a suggestion? Your germination rate would probably increase if the seeds were planted very shallow. A seed should be planted at a depth of 3X the size of the seed. The smaller seeds should just barely be covered with soil. Larger ones like the mustard and coriander, can take a little more depth. However, my garden coriander does reseed itself when I let it go to bloom, and I have lots of babies pop up wherever they want in the Spring. And that's just seed being scattered on the soil surface and washed in by rain.

She was just experimenting to see if they would sprout and mentioned that it was a good sign that it would be worth growing using proper methods.

Awesome! Hope you’ll also try growing grocery store dried bags of beans, peas, chickpeas. They do just fine.

This was my plan for this year. Literally the only whole spice they had, bulk bins or pre-packaged, was fennel. I know I've gotten other whole stuff there before.

Bulk herbs and spices are much fresher than what’s marketed in little bottles and packets.
I’ve done this with a couple spices and got great results. I’m going to do more!

Thanks for the experiment you did. I was looking for this info, as I wanted to plant caraway seeds in garden. They are supposed to attract parasitic wasps and other beneficial insects.

Nitrogen from urine. You’ll prob need to rotate soil after 2-3 yrs.

I'd suggest composting it before using it, though idk how to lure the cats to the compost bin.

I planted pickling spice a few years ago and got lots of mustard and a few bits that were hard to identify. Since then I've tried caraway, coriander, mustard, cumin, celery, poppy, and dill (all from Bulk Barn) with great success. No luck so far with cardamom or star anise.

Star anise is picked unripe from the tree from what I've read. So sadly we really can't grow them from seeds.

What stores have these things where you grab seasoning like that, I'll be honest I don't remember the store or the last time I saw these. So ideas would really help. especially to get cilantro and spinach. Or can I grow them package store bought

The text which is handwritten in the Cyrillic script - what language is that? I have an inkling that it's some kind of Slavic language, and I've my own guesses as to which, but I'd rather not air those guesses at risk of causing embarrassment and offence.
