In 1975 there was a requirement that the bumper take a 5 mph bump without damage. The 1975 Dart (my car) has two large shock absorber mounted under the car from the frame to the heavy duty bumper, they weight about 100 lbs each. The corvette had a different type of of complying with the requirement, I don’t see any shock absorbers attachment from bumper to the frame.
Hello Doug! There are two shock absorbers that mount between the main bumper beam and the frame. They are still in place. I agree that anything that is removed reduces the impact resistance of the bumper but what was removed adds little protection. Some of it is just support for the tail lights and support for the soft urethane bumper.
What did you use to seal the bumpers on . There is a gap between body and bumpers did you fiberglass them or seal them with something. Please let me know!!
Hello Mike! Sorry for the very late reply. On mine the two surfaces mostly fit and did not need a seal. Where there were big gaps I added some fiberglass to the car side and sanded it to make it work out.
Hello Ray! I bought this off Ebay for about $200. Maybe the ones from Wilcox would be a better choice. I understand that there are fitment problems with all of them.
