Don't get me wrong, I've always loved the lights and decorations that go along with Christmas, as well as the magical feeling that only seems to be around when it's around the corner. But this song...or songs are so simple and pure, it really captures the essence of what Christmas is about. The day Jesus came to save us. God Bless us all!
[Fox] What Child is this, who laid to rest On Mary’s lap is sleeping? Whom angels greet with anthems sweet While shepherds watch are keeping? [Hound] Helpless and hungry, lowly, afraid Wrapped in the chill of midwinter; Comes now, among us, born into, poverty’s embrace New life for the world [Chorus: Hound & Fox] Who is this? Strengthen the feeble (Strengthen, the feeble,) Say to the, 'tened heart: (Say to, the frightened heart:) Fear not, fear not (“Fear not: here is your God!”) [Hound (Fox)] Who is this who lives with the lowly (This, this is Christ the King,) Sharing their sorrows, knowing their hunger? (Whom shepherds guard and angels sing;) This is Christ, revealed to the world (Haste, haste, to bring Him laud,) In the eyes of a child, a child of the poor (The Babe, the Son of Mary.)
I know I'm really late to the party, but this is drop-dead GORGEOUS. Especially the last chorus where Child of the Poor asks the question "Who is this?" And What Child Is This answers "This is Christ, the King." Wow. Absolutely beautiful you guys.
We sang this song in this arrangement at out Christmas Vigil Mass this past year. Our group consists of 4 female and 2 male vocalists/guitarists. We practiced it alone in a room with no sound equipment and it sounded just fine. We were happy with it. When we sang it in the church with our in-house sound system it absolutely came alive! The acoustics of the church added so much to it. The only thing we did differently is that us two male vocalists sang our parts in harmony apart from the female vocalists. It added another layer to it.
I cry everytime I hear this song combination. It works not only because of the beautiful countermelodies, but also on a literary level. The juxtaposition between one song highlighting his godly/royal origins, and the other highlighting the vulnerability/poverty of his birth. Its a perfect match.
Thank you all for such an incredible response to our mashup of "What Child is This" and "Child of the Poor"! If you like this song and video, we think you will love some of our other Christmas music videos as well! This song is on our Deluxe Christmas album along with 15 other Christmas-time favorites 🎄 Merry Christmas, everyone!! gumroad.com/houndfoxmusic
It's unique to have two different songs sung at the same time, but you two blended so well without drowning each other out. I would not think the idea would work, but it did work perfectly. Kudos to the audio engineer who balanced things out perfectly. And kudos to the video engineer. This is achingly beautiful. I had not seen this video before, and it's the day after Thanksgiving, so it's a great way to start the Christmas season.
This is probably one of the most beautiful pieces of Christmas music ever created. Loved it the moment I heard it - already bought the sheet music and have our guitarist lined up for a Christmas performance. We are recording it as well just because it's so perfect. Both of your voices are epic! Thanks for sharing. Stunning!!!
I used to be homeless after a traumatic time of physical, verbal and mental relationship. It was during the winter and the shelters were full. I stayed low in a local cemetery and ate when I could. I was terrified, cold , hungry and poor. I wouldn't wish what I had been through on anyone. I was born into poverty and raised in a complete abusive home. I was in and out of foster homes. I went through so much but I am now ok. I have my own apartment and live humbly. I'm a Born Again Christian and live day by day. May GOD bless you and your family.
Not to be mean, but this was always how these two songs were sung. I wish more artists sung both songs together. Just as rare to hear Silent Night and Night of Silence together as well.
@@chanelw9408 That's not actually correct. I don't know about Silent Night and Night of Silence, but "What Child is This" was written by William Dix in 1865. "Child of the Poor" was written in 1994 by Scott Soper. It was written specifically as a counter meldoy to "What Child is This", but it's perfectly appropriate to perform "What Child is This" on it's own.
Doesn’t sound like two songs. Sounds like a round which is a type of music where you offset when each set of lyrics are sung Which given what you said about it being written as a counter melody would explain it
@@chanelw9408 My group sings Silent Night/Night of Silence together. We've been doing it for at least 13 years and it always leave the church in complete silence. It's such a beautiful arrangement. This year was our first time singing What Child is this/Child of the Poor. We received the same response!
It's that time of Year again, where Christmas music is played 24 hours a day... and yet it all feels just as hollow as it did in years prior. This... this is different. This is, always has been, and always will be, something so beutiful. Thank you.
Amen. The tears of my eyes today is goes to the poor people especially to the number 1 poorest country around the world.. In Jesus name! I want to hug you all
seems to have gotten popular in churches in the last 3 years. my church did it first then and it blew me away. In the current times its particularly poignant.
Child of the poor is a popular hymn in the catholic church....I believe it was composed to fit this song on purpose. Theres another counter hymn for silent night that is popular as well.
We named our son, Todd, after we watched this movie, after he was 4 days old, he was born 1 lbs 15oz🙏 & today I asked God for a song as a prayer for him , thought of this song, but couldn't remember the words...then this your video came up!!! God never ceases to amaze me!!!🙏😇 & thank you!!!
I love this arrangement. He did not sleep on a mattress Though our souls He did caress He slept on straw and soothed our hearts that were raw He did not have sheets but He accomplished a great feat Have a blessed day BC
This gentle form of singing is by far more effective as a sung statement than all the yelling and moaning of recent popular music. A treasure of poetry, gentle voices, and beautiful delivery. Long may you prosper and thrive.
I am so grateful for heartfelt music that captures some of the emotions I feel about Christmas, including the peace of knowing that Jesus came to earth to take my pains away and I'll be able to see those I've lost again.
The beauty of the love that these 2 share is equal to the beauty of the love of Our Heavenly Father. I enjoyed watching them sing together as listening to them sing. Glory to God in the highest!!!
ANGELICALLY BEAUTIFUL! I too have never heard Child of the Poor....MY NEW FAVORITE CHRISTMAS SONG! From Top Grandpa Fan & Child of God in Tennessee. 🙏🏼🎶🎄
This is just amazing! I love the way these songs blend together from a musical perspective, but most of all, I love how good you guys sound singing together!
I was in the car flipping through channels and came to the Christian radio station and was pleased to find songs for Christmas about our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. And then your song came in- this song! It is truly beautiful and brought that amazing love of our Savior into my heart and tears to my eyes. I can home and tried to describe it to my hai and and couldn’t adequately so looked for it and found it here! Thank you for using your God given talent in such a way to praise and honor the song of God, Jesus Christ, who came to save us all!
Sorry, I'm late to the party and recently discovered "The Hound and The Fox", but I must say; "I don't think I'll ever be satisfied hearing "What Child is This" WITHOUT the integration of "Child of the Poor" ever again. Wow, you two are incredible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SO Beautiful! Thank you for not screaming your song. Your sweet voices match the sweet spirit that accompanies your understanding of "the Babe, the son of Mary" :)
I can't stop watching this video. The descant arrangement is so much better than each song by itself. It is a "Mic Drop" performance by these artists. The fact that it is done in a simple chapel and you see their breath and he just sang about "being wrapped in mid-winter".... this song is being DJ'd in Heaven until the end of time!
Who is this? This is Christ the Lord. I just can't get it out of my head. Lovely song, and God bless you both. Thank you for blessing me with this work of art.
christmas is just another day in the year, nothing special about it. Stores just trying to make you spend more money, thats all there is to this holiday. Religion can be tossed out of the window, theres no place for it in the modern world
This is a holiday favorite of mine. I have commented on this song before. It is technically excellent. Flawlessly executed. The fox is perfect in her counter melody and beautiful to watch as she sings. The hounds part is equally well done. And this is not an easy song to pull off flawlessly. Excellent effort.
This song is a tremendous blessing and comfort to me. Your individual voices blend beautifully together and I like the subtle way these two songs intertwine in your arrangement. Thank you for the wonderful gift of this uplifting song which reminds us of the Christ child who gives 'new life for the world' in a most difficult year. God bless you and your family!!
This song was so beautiful, it made weepy eyes. Thank you for honoring our Savior in such a beautiful way--especially when the world celebrates his birth this time of year. You guys are fabulous!
